11 best keyboard controller with pitches
A keyboard controller with pitches, often referred to as a MIDI keyboard controller, is a musical instrument interface used in the realms of computer recording, studio recording equipment, and musical instruments. Here is what you should know about it:
MIDI Controller Basics: MIDI stands for Musical Instrument Digital Interface. MIDI controllers, including keyboard controllers, are devices that transmit MIDI data to control and trigger sounds on other MIDI-compatible devices, such as synthesizers, software instruments, and DAWs (Digital Audio Workstations).
Keyboard Controller: A keyboard controller is a type of MIDI controller that resembles a traditional keyboard. It typically features piano-style keys, but not always. These keys are used to play melodies, chords, and trigger various musical notes or samples.
Pitch Control: In addition to playing notes, a keyboard controller with pitch control allows musicians to manipulate the pitch of the notes being played. This is typically achieved through pitch bend wheels, modulation wheels, or touch-sensitive strips on the controller. These controls enable expressive and dynamic pitch variations, adding depth to the music.
Pitch Bend Wheel: The pitch bend wheel is a common feature on many keyboard controllers. It allows the player to bend the pitch of notes up or down smoothly. This can mimic the natural expressiveness of string instruments like guitars or emulate vocal inflections.
Modulation Wheel: The modulation wheel is another important feature found on many keyboard controllers. It can be assigned to control various parameters, including vibrato, filter sweeps, or other sound modulations, adding richness and character to the music.
Touch-Sensitive Controls: Some advanced keyboard controllers have touch-sensitive strips or pads that allow for real-time pitch manipulation by sliding a finger along the surface. These can be highly expressive and intuitive for musicians.
Integration with DAWs: Keyboard controllers are often used in conjunction with DAW software to record and produce music. They can be connected to a computer via USB or MIDI cables, allowing for seamless integration and control of virtual instruments and software synthesizers.
Studio and Live Performance: Keyboard controllers are used both in studio recording and live performances. They offer musicians versatility in creating and performing music, making them essential tools for many artists and producers.
Range of Sizes and Features: Keyboard controllers come in various sizes, from compact and portable models to larger, more feature-rich ones. The choice of a controller depends on the musician's needs and preferences.
Compatibility: It's important to ensure that the keyboard controller is compatible with the software and hardware you intend to use.MIDI standards ensure a high degree of compatibility between different devices.
In summary, a keyboard controller with pitch control is a versatile MIDI instrument that allows musicians and producers to play and manipulate musical notes while adding expressive pitch variations. It plays a significant role in modern music production, studio recording, and live performances, bridging the gap between traditional musical instruments and digital technology.

Op-1 comes loaded with great kits, but if you feel that you want more just press the mic key to sample anything. And if that's not enough you just connect your OP-1 to your computer and drag and drop any .aif file straight to the OP-1.
- CREATE MUSIC ON-THE-FLY - The Teenage Engineering OP-1 features 13 unique synth engines, 7 high-quality stereo effects, and exchangeable LFOs. It offers physically modeled string synthesis and frequency modulation.
- OFFERS "TAPE RECORDING" - The 4-track tape feature lets you record any beats you create, play, sequence, or tweak. You can overdub with pitch change by matching the tape-speed with the sequencer clock.
- PROVIDES UNIQUE SEQUENCERS - Easily arrange notes in different ways using one of the four original sequencers. While the Tape function produces pure audio recording, the sequencer stores note data.
- SAMPLES SOUNDS FROM DIFFERENT SOURCES - You can sample a sound using the onboard microphone. The built-in FM radio allows you to sample local radio stations or music. You can also feed tracks plugged from a recorder in the 3.5mm line input.
- LASTS LONGER THAN OTHER DEVICES - The tiny OP-1 packs 16 hours of battery life. You can travel and play the synthesizer without worrying about running out of power. The OP-1 can even last for 2 years on standby mode.
User questions & answers
Question: | Anyone recommend a charger that will work for the OP-1 (besides a laptop |
Answer: | don't use the laptop charger or you will be sorry. check teenage engineering for charger specs. |
Question: | Can you apply more than one filter at a time (both on master and on the synth |
Answer: | You cannot. You can have a mixer and a synth filter active, but cannot have multiple filters active on one module. You can work around this by recording what you like with one filter to tape, sampling it, and adding another filter on top of that sample. Not the greatest solution but it does work. |
Question: | How easy and fast do you get to get tha hang out of the OP-1 and start making music |
Answer: | I'd spend some time watching the videos at the OP-1 website: http://www.teenageengineering.com/products/op-1/videos. They'll give you a good feel for what it's like to use it and what's possible. But I don't think it's hard to start making music at all. |
Question: | Why does the price keep going up? It was $899 a month and a half back. Then it went to $999 and now it's $1099 since last week |
Answer: | Teenage engineering announced in 2018 they were going to stop producing the OP-1, which was priced at $799, which caused prices to go crazy because people still wanted one but they were going to soon be unavailable. After a bit of craziness, Teenage engineering announced that they would re-start production, but it took a bit to get production back up and running and when the OP-1 was relaunched, it was at its higher price point of $1,299. Other than the short time it was out of production, the OP-1 has been in production since 2011. Whether its worth it or not is up to you, but the OP-1 remains extremely popular in 2020. |

Product Description Panorama T6 is a powerful MIDI controller with great integration with most DAW's. Additionally it is the first controller to deliver Nectar-level instrument plugin control in any VST/AU compatible DAW. Load patches directly from the keyboard and start controlling parameters immediately, with every change instantly visible on the LED display. Control any instrument plugin with one of the many included maps or customize and create your own. Discover new performance tools like the powerful chord, hold and note repeat functions. Tweak repeat parameters, plugin parameters and record it all in your DAW. Panorama T6 connects to most DAW's delivering track navigation, mixer and transport control with either Nectar DAW integration or MCU compatibility. PLAY: 2ND GEN PANORAMA KEYBED Panorama T4 and T6 feature a 2nd generation Panorama synth-action key bed. Dampened and carefully balanced across the keyboard with medium tension, which means the activation force required is in the middle of the range established for professional keyboards. Five velocity curves shift the emphasis from soft to hard, giving enough choice to cater for any playing style. A fixed option enables velocity values to be set by controls, including the wheels. The 2nd Gen Panorama key bed is our most expressive key bed yet and features the After Touch strip: Easily triggered and controlled, After Touch makes it possible to dynamically alter tone or volume by gently applying just a bit of pressure. PADS: BEATS ON TAP Designed with finger drumming in mind, Panorama T4/T6’s 8 large velocity and pressure sensitive pads are the perfect tool for beat creation. Triggering at an extremely low threshold, they will capture ghost notes and flams as easily as you can play them. If the factory settings are not expressive enough for you, it’s even possible to calibrate each pad individually for optimum performance. Each pad can be assigned any MIDI note number or MIDI cc message for use as MIDI trigger or toggle buttons – and assigning sounds couldn’t be easier: Activate Pad Learn, select a pad, play the required note or drum sound on the keyboard and assignment is done. A Pad Bank Button left to the pads gives you access to another 8 pads, for a total of 16 pads within a pad map. 8 such pad maps are available for recall at any time. With DAW Integration, you additionally get automatic mapping of dedicated drums synths such as Reason’s Kong and Bigwig's Drum Machine for a tightly integrated drum machine feeling, complete with full visual feedback on the pads. You can even assign chords to the pads and combine this with the Pad Repeat feature to generate fun rhythmical and chordal figures. The display’s “Velocity Spread” soft key quickly spreads the last played note across all 16 pads, each with its own fixed velocity, making it easier to create consistent and nuanced dynamics. And “Velia” gives you access to a pre-assigned fixed velocity level. PERFORM: KEY AND PAD REPEAT Located just above the wheels are the Key Repeat and Pad Repeat buttons. Press to activate the repeat function and notes will be repeated at the set rate. Change the rate in real-time from 1/4 – 1/96 note values, change the tempo, add some swing and set an accent interval. Repeat settings for pads and keys are independent of each other, so one can be set for the drum beat and the other for an instrumentation part. The Repeat’s trigger mode can be set to repeat from the point of playing a note or to sync with the beat. Clock source can either be internal or external MIDI clock. Repeat is a fun way to look for ideas and facilitate “happy accidents”, regardless of whether you are adding flams to drum beats or creating big repetitive chord progressions. CONTROL: ACCESS ALL AREAS Nine 30mm faders, 8 assignable LED buttons and 8 encoders are at the center of the T-series’ control panel. Each control is fully programmable to send any MIDI CC message for use with hardware or software MIDI products. When used with Nectar DAW integration or Nectarine, the controls provide flexible pre-mapped DAW- or plugin-control, giving you deep tactile control right from the hardware. The DAW integration files also contain automatic catch-up and soft-takeover functions to avoid parameter jumping when you switch between devices. Our “Null” function additionally allows you to do this without relying on software feedback with independent settings for each of Mixer, Instrument, Multi and Preset modes. Control settings can be stored in any of Panorama’s 10 presets for recall at any time. DISPLAY: INSTANT FEEDBACK The custom LCD display provides crisp and clear feedback for all your settings: Here is where you select Panorama’s different modes, access global parameters and navigate your software. With DAW Integration and Nectarine, you will even see your software’s mixer and plugin parameters right there. The 4 soft buttons below the display will change their function according to the selected menu for fast access. The 4 mode buttons to the right of the display allow you to change from internal mode to DAW or plugin control at the touch of a button. The Multi button is reserved for Nectarine. By pressing the FOCUS button, you can enlarge the current parameter to fill the whole screen. All of this ensures a fluent and fast workflow without any guessing games. WHERE IS NEKTARINE? You hardly notice it, but it’s there. Nectarine is discreet and doesn’t impose itself on you or your DAW. But behind it lies a powerhouse of features that enhance control and library management of instrument plugins. Launch Nectarine and it will immediately communicate with your Panorama T4/T6. Now you are ready to take deep control of VST, VST3 or AU plugins from Panorama: Load an instrument plugin that’s supported by Nectarine's default plugin maps and create new and exciting sounds that you didn’t even know your plugin was capable of. Turning knobs is so much more fun than moussing around. The display will tell you which parameter is assigned to each control as well as status feedback. The LED buttons below the faders are set up for navigation so it’s quick and easy to find your way around even complex plugins. Each button is labeled with a common control page name such as OSC, Filter, Envy, LFO and FX. As soon as you press a button, the corresponding Nectarine factory map page is selected. The LED buttons can be “learned” to any map page so you can set up each map exactly how you want it. CONTROL MAPS No doubt, there will be plugins out there not yet factory mapped for Nectarine: no problem! Click the “Edit” button in the Nectarine header to open the control edit page. This is where control map pages are created. You can also rename parameters and create navigation assignments so it’s easy to select the plugin’s pages. Drag and drop parameters to assign them to controls on each page or use Panorama’s parameter learn function. Factory maps are also customizable and any map can be saved for automatic recall every time the plugin is loaded. Nectarine and Panorama T4/T6 deliver an unrivaled control experience with deep integration typically not even available on dedicated hardware synthesizer products. With this level of control you’ll see your instruments in a new light. BROWSE MEANS LESS Nectarine's browser enables browsing of patches directly from Panorama T4/T6. Factory patches for most of the popular instrument plugins are instantly available with minimum setup. Your own user patches can also be imported or saved, so over time there will be quite a few patches to choose from in the Nectarine browser. Thankfully, Nectarine has all the tools to help you manage thousands of patches – including patch tagging, search and rating options which make it easy to find exactly the patch you are looking for. Group tags store a combination of tag settings and make it possible to narrow your options at the push of just one button. The best part is that the Nectarine browser allows complete migration between DAWs: Use Nectarine in one DAW and your plugins can be browsed the same way in any other compatible DAW. MULTI MEANS MORE Panorama T4/T6’s Multi mode enables up to 8 instrument plugins to be layered in Nectarine. Each plugin slot has its own unique browser settings as well as volume, pan, mute and solo parameters assigned for instant mix from Panorama. When Multi mode is active, patches loaded for each slot are clearly listed in the display and slots can be added in real-time. Press the Browse button at any time to load a new patch in any of the active slots. Multi definitely means more! DAW CONTROL Panorama T4 and T6 are compatible with any DAW that supports Mackie Control Universal (MCU). This includes transport, track selection and basic mixer control. The 6 LED transport buttons put an end to using the mouse for this. Dedicated Track up/down buttons are located below the display. If your DAW is supported by Nectar DAW Integration, you can do even more. FIX IT IN THE MIX Control basic mixer functionality right away: The first 8 faders control your DAW’s mixer in banks of 8 channels each, their LED buttons activate mute. And this works in any DAW, that supports MCU. Hold shift and move through your mixer in banks of 8, using the Bank buttons below the Display. The 9th fader controls master volume, the encoders are mapped to channel pan. With Nectar DAW Integration, you get extended features such as alternating channel 9 between volume control for master and current channel – or toggling the LED buttons between solo and mute. Depending on your DAW, you can also use the display buttons to switch the encoders to control sends or smart/quick controls in Logic or Cubase for example. To help you make the best out of your screen estate, Panorama also has shortcuts for opening and closing your DAW mixer window. NEKTAR DAW INTEGRATION – THE COMPLETE SYSTEM Nectarine and MCU DAW control create a powerful system. Our Nectar DAW Integration software takes the system integration even further: This custom software is especially created for each of the supported DAWs and will provide you with a common workflow that gives access to expanded transport and mixer functions as well as control of your DAW’s own instruments. It’s the most complete DAW control system available, even compared with products in higher price brackets. Panorama T-series’ DAW integration currently supports Bigwig, Cubase, Garage band, Logic, Unendow, Reaper, Reason and Studio One. HIGHLIGHTS Extended transport control with Got Left locator, Set L and Set R locators, Undo, Click and Record Arm. Mixer mode with display feedback, track listing, volume, pan and sends control. Control of Smart/Quick Control in Logic and Cubase/Unendow, channel macros in Studio One. Dedicated maps for DAW’s own included instruments. Basic mapping of plugins not hosted in Nectarine, offering 2 encoder pages (1 in Studio One) and one fader control page. Grab/learn parameters – take control of any parameter on the active instrument immediately. Automatically detects and manages communication with Nectarine when inserted on a track. Automation write/read activation. MIDI AND USER PRESETS If you prefer to control MIDI hardware products, Panorama T4/T6 can do that as well. The Control Edit menu makes it easy to program any of the controls to send MIDI messages from standard MIDI cc, RPN and NRPN, MMC and of course note messages. Buttons and pads can even be set up to load specific Panorama T4/T6 presets or pad maps as well as trigger chords. There are 10 presets to store control setups and a further 8 pad maps storing 2×8 pad assignments each. Once controls are programmed as they should be, connect your MIDI equipment to the MIDI output jack and get started. You can use the repeat buttons to expand your performance options as well as of course the chord and hold functions. KEYBED WITH AFTERTOUCH
The 2nd Gen Panorama keybed is our most expressive keybed yet. Dampened and carefully balanced across the keyboard with medium tension, it has a nice firm feel. Five velocity curves shift the emphasis from soft to hard, giving enough choice to cater for any playing style. A fixed option enables velocity values to be set by controls, including the wheels. Easily triggered and controlled, AfterTouch makes it possible to dynamically alter tone or volume by gently applying just a bit of pressure.
HIGH DEFINITION PADS

Assigning sounds to pads couldn’t be easier: Activate Pad Learn, select a pad, play the required note on the keyboard - done! You can even assign chords to the pads and use the Pad Repeat feature to create interesting rhythmical figures. A Pad Bank button gives access to another 8 pads, for a total of 16 pads within a pad map. 8 pad maps are available for recall at any time. Velocity Spread spreads the last played note across all 16 pads, each with its own fixed velocity, making it easy to create nuanced dynamics.
With DAW Integration, drums synths such as Reason’s Kong or Bitwig’s Drum Machine are automatically mapped for a tightly integrated drum machine feeling, with full visual feedback on the pads.
KEY & PAD REPEAT
Repeat is a fun way to look for ideas and facilitate “happy accidents”, regardless of whether you are adding flams to drum beats or creating big repetitive chord progressions. Pressing the Key and Pad Repeat buttons activates the repeat function, repeating notes at the set rate. Change the rate in real-time from 1/4 – 1/96 note values, change the tempo, add swing and set an accent interval.
Pad and Key Repeat settings are independent of each other, so one can be set for the drum beat and the other for an instrumentation part. The Repeat’s trigger mode can be set to repeat from the point of playing a note or to sync with the beat. Clock source can either be internal or external MIDI clock.

The DAW integration also features automatic catch-up and soft-takeover functions to avoid parameter jumping when you switch between devices. Our “Null” function additionally allows you to do this without relying on software feedback with independent settings for each mode.
Control settings can be stored in any of Panorama’s 10 presets for recall at any time.
LCD DISPLAY
The custom LCD display provides crisp and clear feedback for all your settings: Here is where you select Panorama’s different modes, access global parameters and navigate your software. With DAW Integration and Nektarine, you will even see your software’s mixer and plugin parameters right there.
The 4 soft buttons below the display will change their function according to the selected menu for fast access. The 4 mode buttons to the right of the display allow you to change from internal mode to DAW or plugin control at the touch of a button. The Multi button is reserved for Nektarine.
Pressing the FOCUS button enlarges the current parameter to fill the whole screen.
CONTROL YOUR DAW
Panorama is compatible with any DAW that supports Mackie Control Universal (MCU) right out of the box. This includes transport functions, basic mixer level and pan control as well as track up/down selection via dedicated buttons below the display.
With Nektar DAW Integration installed, Panorama hooks up automatically to your DAW and gives you extended control features with detailed parameter feedback on the display. Navigate projects, alternate fader 9 between master and current channel volume control, toggle the LED buttons between solo/mute and more. Depending on your DAW, you can also use the display buttons to switch the encoders to control sends or smart-/quick-controls. Panorama even has shortcuts for opening and closing your DAW mixer and plugin windows. Internal devices are pre-mapped for instant use and basic maps as well as the "grab" feature let you control external plugins in seconds.
Supported DAWs: Bitwig, Cubase, Garageband, Logic, Nuendo, Reaper, Reason and Studio One
NEKTARINE PLUGIN CONTROL
Nektarine is a plugin host that can be loaded into any VST/AU compatible DAW for complete control of any VST/AU instrument plugin: Simply load your VSTi in Nektarine and take control! Most popular plugins are pre-mapped for instant use. A graphic editor enables complete customisation of existing and the creation of your own maps. Create pages, rename parameters, map to controls, update mapping as you work.
The Browser page is where you find your sounds. Patches for any compatible plugin can be recalled, edited and saved. Better still, you can recall patches directly from Panorama T6.
MIDI & USER PRESETS
If you prefer to control MIDI hardware products, Panorama T6 can do that as well. The Control Edit menu makes it easy to program any of the controls to send MIDI messages from standard MIDI cc, RPN and NRPN, MMC and of course note messages. Buttons and pads can even be set up to load specific Panorama T6 presets or pad maps as well as trigger chords.
