Classically shaped (center-tip style, with curved back and edge), this knife comes in handy at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. In the afternoons, when no one is looking, it'll slice open a package. Henckels' International Classic is a moderately priced cutlery line made in countries other than the company's home of Germany. The steel is of lesser quality than that used in its premier lines. Also, the handles are narrower and shallower--which the small-handed might appreciate. While this parer is dishwasher-safe, hand washing is recommended. --Fred Brack

User questions & answers

Question: how wide are the blades at the hilt? Mine is only 14 mm, a hair more than 1/2 an inch, and I a looking for a replacement
Answer: I measure it at 45mm or just 2 hairs over 1 3/4 inches. Maybe 1/32+ over 1 3/4. This was at it's widest point. Hope this helps you.
Question: What is the length of the three blades
Answer: I believe this knife is made in Germany!
Question: What grade of stainless steel
Answer: If you mean the very top, it's 3.175 mm. But that's deceptive, because while that's where the blade per se ends, it continues on to enfold about16 mm of the handle, providing more strength.
Question: in which country are the knives made
Answer: International is made in China. Good value. Could use 3 rivets in handle instead of 2. 4 star is heavier which means that it is easier to cut tougher items like carrots, meats, etc. 4 star is made in Germany. I personally use and have used Twin for many years professionally. Some for over 30 years. Just never put any good knife in the dishwasher! Hope that helps.

Product description

FOUR STAR is the top-selling knife series of ZWILLING J.A. Henckels worldwide. Honed and hand-finished by the most skilled artisans, this celebrated collection is the model of safety, ergonomics, and comfort. Thanks to their seamless transition from bolster to handle, the knives are comfortable to use for long periods of time. The bolster provides the right balance while acting as a safe finger guard. The knives are made of proprietary special formula steel that has been perfected for over 280 years. Combined with ZWILLING's signature ice-hardening technique, these FRIODUR blades are harder, sharper, they will NOT STAIN or chip and they retain their sharpness longer. Precision-forged from a single piece of steel, the SIGMAFORGE knives have an exceptionally sturdy, balanced and flexible blade.

The 4-inch fine-edged blade on this knife features slightly curved surfaces on both the back and the cutting edge, terminating in a sharp point. The pronounced tip makes this a great choice for peeling and cutting fruits and vegetables and preparing meats. The blade is strong and firm; this is one of the most versatile knives around and a must for the kitchen of any would-be chef.

Part of the popular Four Star series, this hand-honed blade is made with Henckels' Sintermetal Component Technology (SCT), which allows three different grades of steel to be combined to form a single piece, fusing together the blade, bolster, and tang. What does this mean in layman's terms? It means a strong, high-quality knife that will last a lifetime.

Founded in 1731, the J.A. Henckels company is not only one of the world's oldest cutlery manufacturers, it's also one of the most well respected, creating best-selling knives guaranteed to last a lifetime. --Kim Harwell

From the Manufacturer

First introduced in 1976, the Four Star® Series is one of the world's most popular knife lines. Four Star® knives were designed and developed in close cooperation with renowned professional chefs. The result was a fully forged knife with a unique molded handle. The Four Star® line contains knives for all tasks, and includes the following open stock knife types: parer, bread, peeling, sandwich, utility, carving, chef’s, granton edge slicer, santoku, and others. Four Star® knives are also available in a range of block sets and gift sets.

A Higher Standard in Knife Construction

Four Star® knives are precision forged from a single piece of exclusive-formula, high-carbon, no-stain steel under the all-new Sigmaforge standard. As a result, Four Star® knives have improved quality consistency, lasting sharpness, and perfect geometry. Sigmaforge one-piece construction also provides high precision and improved stability of the blade and steel structure, thus improving cutting-edge retention for lasting sharpness. In addition, Four Star® knives use J.A. Henckels’ Friodur ice hardening for corrosion resistance, a process that also contributes to cutting-edge retention.

It's All in The Grip:

The Four Star® series features high impact polypropylene handles that are permanently bonded to the knife blades without any gaps. These comfortable handles are break-proof, sanitary, and colorfast. In addition, the super bolster provides weight, insures safety, and adds balance.

User questions & answers

Question: what is the handle thickness
Answer: I prefer the rocking one mostly because I am used to using a French chef knife so the rocking was a feel that was more familiar to me than the way that the standard is used.
Question: Not sure if I should buy this knife or the longer 4-inch version for $10 more. Anyone with experience using both
Answer: It's 10 on either side, so 20 total. I use a Spyderco Sharpmaker that works great, highly recommend it.
Question: Per listing: Dishwasher safe: Easy care (Although hand-washing is recommended by J.A. Henckels). - Would warranty be valid if washed in dishwasher
Answer: I have it in a knife drawer in kitchen
Question: Where is this knife manufacturered
Answer: I love this knife, it splits the difference between a regular Santoku and a Chef's knife. You can use it for a western technique of a "rocking" cut while dicing, etc, but also with a slicing "Eastern" technique. Definitely my go to knife in the block for most everything.
