User questions & answers

Question: Does the skillet fit on top of the Dutch Oven as a lid? Could I put my bread dough on the skillet then the DO over that and have it sealed
Answer: I don't know about it being normal. I do know that the lid I rcv'd is a pretty good match texturally for the cauldron/pot that I purchased separately. They are not exactly smooth iron. They feel as one would expect them to feel. If your lid is very rough you may want to exchange it. I hope this helps.
Question: Can you use these cast iron pieces on a glass stovetop
Answer: 3 and 7/8's inch on the inside but there is a lip for the lid to sit on the pot. And the rim is 4 and 3/8. The outside of lid is 5 inches. Hope this helps.
Question: When you grease the cookware how do you store it to keep the grease from becoming rancid
Answer: I purchased the pans from the company that sells the lids . So when I was ready to purchase the lids, I was able to refer to my sales receipt for the pans to determine the size of the lids that would fit.
Question: Mine got rusty from sitting around, what can I do about it , if anything
Answer: No, It would not fit.

User questions & answers

Question: Does this come with the glass lid
Answer: No it does not come with a lid of any kind.
Question: what temperature can this go in the oven
Answer: Le Creuset indicates that cast iron products with integral handles can be used at *any* temperature in the oven. If you buy one of their products with a knob, I think the top temp is 375° F.
Question: Is this skillet really made in France or is it going to say made in Thailand when i get
Answer: THE SKILLET WAS MADE IN FRANCE AND IS EXCEPTIONAL IN QUALITY AND PERFORMANCE. IF YOU HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY OF OWNING ONE, YOU WILL NEVER USE ANY OTHER. HOPE THI ANSWERS YOUR INQUIRY. BEST, GARRISON.
Question: One review says it cooks everything and never mentions 'sticking'. Another reviewer said for health reasons they love this product but it is sticks
Answer: They're getting it too hot and/or turning their food too soon. Using cast iron is different than the thin, non-stick pans a lot of people are accustomed to. You rarely need your heat turned up past medium. For the best results, use a small amount of oil and heat the pan up slowly. I start on low and kick it up after five minutes or so, and then I give it a couple more minutes before I add the food (I cook fish in mine a lot). Resist the temptation to turn it over right away. If you wait a proper amount of time, it should flip perfectly. There are instructions included as well, which are worth a read. I personally love all of my Le Creuset...if you take care of it, it'll last forever. I've read reviews by people that inherited theirs from grandmothers etc.

Product features

Le Creuset Signature Iron Handle Skillet

Le Creuset's Signature skillets feature a helper handle for easier lifting and added control when moving between stove-top, oven and table.

Cast iron skillets have long been treasured kitchen staples for stove-top frying and oven baking. Over time, the matte black interior enamel develops a natural patina that is ideal for searing and frying. Pour spouts on two sides allow for drip-free pouring.

Cooking with cast iron

Enameled cast iron is a remarkable and robust material that performs well with modern requirements for food preparation and cooking. Whether you choose to stir-fry, slow-cook a casserole, sear a steak or bake a cake, there is a shape that is suitable. Cast iron performs well for either slow cooking or high-temperature searing.

Cast iron can be used reliably on any heat source, including induction, and with any oven or grill. It has the ability to retain heat efficiently, which allows for use of lower heat settings in stove-top and oven cooking. On the table, a hot covered dish will keep food hot for second servings.

Cast iron can also be used to keep foods cold. A chilled dish becomes an ideal cold food server on a hot summer day. It can also be placed in the freezer for food storage or advanced food preparation.

Satin Black

Satin Black enamel can be found on skillets, grills, frying pans, saute pans, woks and tagines. Satin Black enamel has a smooth feel but is not as glossy as other light-colored interior enamel finishes. It has been specially designed for higher surface temperature cooking, which is not the same as simply using a piece on a high heat.

Higher surface temperatures can be achieved by allowing any piece to heat thoroughly on a medium setting. This makes the satin black interior ideal for frying, grilling and searing.

Satin Black enamel will keep its good looks and allow a patina to build on its surface with continued use. A patina is the result of the natural oils and fats from foods baking on to the hot surface. The patina should not be cleaned off, as it enhances the cooking performance and the release of foods. It also reduces the need for surface oiling.

With the higher surface temperatures achieved during frying, grilling and searing, sugars and some enzymes will cause caramelization.

Cleaning and Care

Always cool a hot pan for a few minutes before washing.

Do not plunge a hot pan into cold water. While Le Creuset’s enamel is designed to be the most durable on the market, thermal shock may still occur, resulting in cracking or loss of enamel.

If there are food residues, fill the pan with warm water and let soak for 15 to 20 minutes before washing. A brush can be useful for removing small food deposits, or for cleaning between the ribs on grills. Do not use scourers or abrasive cleaners on the cooking surface. Nylon or soft abrasive pads or brushes can be used to remove stubborn residues. To avoid damaging the enamel, do not use metallic pads or harsh abrasive cleaning agents.

Light stains or metal marks caused by metal tools can be removed with Le Creuset cookware cleaner. An occasional cleaning with this product will also retain the new appearance of your pans.

Never store pans while they are still damp. Store pans in a dry cupboard or airy space away from steam.

  • WHAT IS PORCELAIN ENAMEL ON CAST IRON? It is actually glass that becomes bonded to the cast iron at high temperatures. A particulate of glass, called frit, is applied to the cast iron vessel and then baked at temperatures between 1200 and 1400° F. The glass frit melts and fuses to the cast iron, forming a bond. Porcelain enamel on cast iron is heat tolerant and impervious to water and other consumables.

User questions & answers

Question: One of the reviews said you can't brown meat in this pot. Is that correct
Answer: I made chili in mine as soon as I got it, and I browned 2lb of meat as the first thing I did ... 1lb. ground chuck (85% / 15% fat) and 1lb. ground pork ... and then obviously many other ingredients, but it came out fine. I would think you can brown just about anything you wanted in it... Not sure why you couldn't?
Question: Is it made in the USA
Answer: Yes, they are made overseas, not in the USA. I've had my pan for 7 years now...and it's used weekly, and more often in the winter months. I was a bit disappointed when it came and I realized it wasn't made in the USA but decided to give it a chance. After 7 years of hard use I can honestly say it's the best pot I have ever owned! It's discolored a bit, not surprising with the amount of use it gets and all the soups stews and roasts I make in it throughout each year. But that hasn't affected the pot at all. It is just a good as it was when I first bought it. I'm going to try the 1 cup baking soda and 4 cups water trick (boil 5 min let sit with the lid on for 2 hours) that I read about in one of the other questions to see if it will return to it's original beige coloring, but even if it doesn't, it's still going to be my "go to" pot for everything I can use a dutch oven for :-) I highly recommend this pot, even though it's not made in the USA!
Question: Flat bottom suitable for glass top range
Answer: Yes. I use mine on a flat top electric range all the time with no problems. I allow it to heat on medium heat and it's good to go!
Question: I followed the cleaning instructions and after 6mths of use the interior is not slick anymore and everything sticks is this normal? Is there a warranty
Answer: That is because it is cast iron. Every so often, you need to "season" it, which is what makes the surface slick. The basic process is coating the exposed iron in high-heat oil, and heating it to a very high temperature for about an hour. There is a bit more to it, but just look up "how to season cast iron". The oil you rub in and heat onto it fills the porous surface of the iron and makes it non-stick. To clean cast-iron surfaces, you don't want to submerge in water or use soap on it. It is best to clean right after using, and overall just scrub any residual gunk off. You don't even need water, usually! If you use a bunch of soap and water on your pot, it will just ruin the coating, and you will need to re-season it. If you take care of your cast iron though, it will be with you for life! :) http://www.seriouseats.com/2016/09/how-to-season-cast-iron-pans-skillets-cookware.html

Cooking And Caring For Your Lodge Enameled Cast Iron

1. Allow cookware to cool.

2. Although dishwasher safe, hand washing with warm soapy water and a nylon Scrub Brush is recommended to preserve the cookware’s original appearance. Citrus juices and citrus-based cleaners (including some dishwasher detergents) should not be used, as they can dull the exterior gloss.

3. If necessary, use nylon pads or scrapers to remove food residue; metal pads or utensils will scratch or chip porcelain.

4. Slight stains can be removed by rubbing with dampened cloth and Lodge Enamel Cleaner or other ceramic cleaner according to directions on bottle.

5. Dry cookware thoroughly before storing. Do not stack cookware.

User questions & answers

Question: Are the contents flammable
Answer: No
Question: Can you use this on cast iron grates for a stove
Answer: I don't seea sent reason why you couldn't.
Question: Would this be better than dish soap on Le Creuset type cookware
Answer: I’m not sure? Cast iron specifically says do not use dish soap. So u les your cookware states that I would stick with dish soap as this doesn’t suds up.
Question: What are the ingredients? I couldn't find it from the image or description. I would love to buy it if this is a clean cleaner
Answer: Well, I am sitting here reading the label on the Cast Iron Cleanser by Culina and I find no list of ingredients at all. It says...All Natural Cleanser, No Sticky Residue, Petroleum Free, & Eliminates Food Odors. Definitely not a list of ingredients. It does, however, have an Allergy Waring. This product contains Nut Oils. The label on my bottle says nothing about being Kosher Certified. There is a website listed that might help. It is CULINACOLLECTION.COM. Sorry I can not be of more assistance on this.
