Question:	Can I use this to double as a bench scraper, or should I buy a separate bench scraper
Answer:	This item is large enough to lift and move a cake layer (8" by 9.5") I use a smaller separate scraper for use while scraping flour or cutting pastry dough.

Question:	how many inches is this
Answer:	No, the water won't reach all the way to the silicone ring. The glass has lines marked for the minimum and maximum amount of water to be added which is inches away from the lid. The only time water would touch it is when you pour the water out.
Question:	Does the silicone ring actually touch the boiling water
Answer:	Plastic? Not really. Water only comes into contact with plastic when you pour, some of the pieces of the lid are plastic. Water contact with plastic is very brief. Silicone? Harder to say... maybe. It LOOKS like there is a silicone seal in the base of the unit. If so, then water is in contact with it during the heating process. From what I can tell, most common silicone sealants are food safe.
Question:	Does the water come into contact with any plastic or silicone inside the kettle
Answer:	I have been considering this and the one touch and from what I remember this does not have any plastic on the inside. Because of that I was leaning toward this one even though I really prefer the one touch due to the advanced function. Unfortunaltly, the steeper basket in the one touch has plastic on it that goes in the water... really?! for $250!!! Hopefully they make an all stainles steel basket in the future

Answer:	Just the silicone ring that seals the heating element in--though I suppose that is technically not plastic? Also, the lid is plastic, so condensation from the boiling water touches that and then drips back into the pot. We do love ours though.

Answer:	No. The straps are sewn directly into the shoulder pad.

Answer:	I used my mat only for a short time while our kitchen was being remodeled and didn’t put it in my washer. I think it might be better to put it in the dishwasher.

Answer:	I use them under pots and pans I'm cooking with when I put them on the table. It protects the table or counter from the hot pans.

Answer:	I got the large one with the color stix. The color stix are to help raise the mat over the sink. However, the lip on mine is very high and I had to put a thick dish towel under the stix to get the water to flow into the sink.
