12 best apc outlets
APC, which stands for American Power Conversion, is a well-known company that specializes in surge protectors, power strips, and other electronics accessories. They are widely recognized for their high-quality surge protection devices that help safeguard electronic equipment from power surges and fluctuations. Here are some key points about APC outlets and surge protectors:
Surge Protectors: APC surge protectors are designed to protect electronic devices from voltage spikes and power surges. These devices are essential for safeguarding sensitive electronics like computers, TVs, gaming consoles, and more. Surge protectors work by diverting excess voltage away from connected devices, preventing damage caused by power fluctuations.
Power Strips: APC power strips are equipped with multiple outlets, allowing users to plug in several devices simultaneously. These power strips often come with surge protection features, ensuring that all connected devices are shielded from sudden voltage spikes.
Features: APC surge protectors and power strips come with various features such as indicator lights to show the status of protection, grounded outlets for added safety, and sometimes USB charging ports for convenient charging of smartphones and tablets.
Design and Build: APC outlets and surge protectors are designed with user safety in mind. They often have sturdy enclosures and durable components to withstand power surges. Some models also have mounting options for easy installation on walls or under desks.
Warranty: APC typically offers warranties on their surge protectors, providing customers with peace of mind knowing that their devices are protected, and there is support available in case of product issues.
Usage: APC surge protectors and power strips find applications in homes, offices, data centers, and various other settings where electronic devices need protection from power fluctuations.
When purchasing APC outlets, surge protectors, or power strips, it's important to consider the power rating, the number of outlets needed, and the specific features required for your devices. This ensures that you choose a surge protection solution that meets your requirements and provides adequate protection for your valuable electronics.

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this protect you from more than one surge without resetting? Some continue to provide power after the surge but are unprotected until reset |
Answer: | 110 volt |
Question: | how long is the cord |
Answer: | My APC Power Strip Surge Protector, PE66W, 1080 Joule, 6 Outlet Surge Strip (White/Green with 6' cord) has a flat plug to go behind furniture. Don't understand why APC doesn't document this or illustrate it in their photo, it's a feature and what I wanted! Like many power strip flat plugs, the power line also comes out of the plug at 45 degree angle. |
Question: | Does it work with 220 or 110 v |
Answer: | Not sure of the depth as I’m not going to remove it to measure it, but it fits in a standard single gang box just fine. It is bulkier for sure, but I’ve installed several of these with no issues. |
Question: | Does this have a flat or right angle plug? Model PE6U |
Answer: | Yes, but it does not have enough output to charge a laptop. I have no issue with it keeping my iPad Pro fully charged while using it. |

Reliable and Safe Protection from Lightning, Surges, and Spikes
The APC SurgeArrest Essential series represents the primary level of surge protection that should be present on any of your computers and household electronics. Its state-of-the-art circuitry offers protection for sensitive electronic equipment against larger power surges and more common power fluctuations. Seven surge protected outlets and status indicator LED lights make the APC PE76 SurgeArrest the best value for quality surge protection.
Convenient and Safe for Home or Office
The SurgeArrest will warn you if its circuitry has been damaged by a heavy strike or power line surge and it is unable to provide full protection.
Low let-through Ratings
APC surge protectors are given "let-through ratings," which indicate the maximum voltage level that can possibly reach your equipment after a surge or voltage spike has passed through an electric surge protector. Lower IEEE let-through ratings indicate better protection and performance. The APC Essential SurgeArrest series offers optimal performance with a let-through rating of less than 400V for North American products, and a rating of less than 15 percent for products sold worldwide.

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this allow power thru after a surge disables the protective circuitry |
Answer: | It does lay flat against the electrical outlet, I have a shelf unit in front of it and there is no conflict, although for safety reasons I would not push furniture too closely up against it. |
Question: | Does this unit have a keyhole screw slots or some manner of attachment on the back so it can be mounted securely instead of just lying loosely |
Answer: | Here is the data spec sheet on this APC (Schneidr electrc) surge protector. It has a 40v - Let through voltage (120v + 40v). So thats a 160v clamp voltage before the surge protector kicks in and starts to absorb the surge. https://download.schneider-electric.com/files?p_File_Name=P11VT3_DATASHEET_WW_en-WW.pdf&p_Reference=P11VT3_APC_DATASHEET And just in case the link dies, here is the schneidr electrc product page to search for this model (P11VT3) APC surge protector. Type “P11VT3” in the search box in the webpage listed below. https://www.se.com/us/en/ |
Question: | Does this surge protector have a right angle plug so furniture can be pushed close to the wall |
Answer: | The clamping voltage certified and stamped on the unit is 500v not the advertised 330v. I am not an expert, but in my opinion, it is unlikely to protect you from the first surge or any subsequent surges. I don't recommend this unit. |
Question: | does anyone know the clamping voltage for this surge protector |
Answer: | The item is orderable by cord length: You have to select it when you order. There are click-buttons on the order screen - click the length you want. If you click 6' cord, you get a 6' cord, if you click to order a 12' cord, you get 12', and so forth. |

User questions & answers
Question: | how to reset it after the surge? it's not conducting power after the very first surge |
Answer: | Because this is a Z-Wave enabled device, it will add appropriately and can be controlled as a Dimmer by SmartThings, however it is not certified by SmartThings at this time (June 2, 2017). There are community provided device handlers available for most Z-Wave products on SmartThings Community board that will offer advanced functionalities available today, as well, we are currently working with SmartThings to ensure all of our switches and dimmers are certified. We hope to have this fully supported in the near future. You can periodically check the following website: https://www.smartthings.com/products/-/filter/brands/ge for fully certified GE Devices on the SmartThings platform. |
Question: | What is the measured depth when pluged in |
Answer: | Yes, this will work with the Wink 2 Hub, however Wink has not integrated the advanced features of the GE 26933 at this time. This means that you will be able to turn the Motion Dimmer on and off, as well as dim remotely, however you cannot adjust the Occupancy/Vacancy settings, timeouts, etc. through the hub. All Advanced functions will have to be adjusted through the button press controls that are detailed in the user manual included with the product. |
Question: | is this UL certified |
Answer: | C by GE Smart Switches will work through wifi but will need to be connected to our C by GE app first. The Smart Switches will not work with Smartthings. |
Question: | Does this surge protector plug in directly into outlet |
Answer: | The wired switch will control other bulbs besides C by GE, but this switch, because it is wire-free does not have the capability of controlling anything except C by GE lights and light strips and it cannot be added to an outside app, it will only work in the C by GE app. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How long is the center screw that's included |
Answer: | It will always protect equipments from power surges |
Question: | can bulb be removed |
Answer: | Yes, cover it with black electrical tape. |
Question: | Will this 3 plug wall surge protector unit protect my iMac |
Answer: | Except for the cheapest devices, other surge protectors just have a "protected" light that goes out if the surge protection fails, but the surge protector continues to pass power. I would much rather have it cut the power than to have to crawl around the equipment to keep checking to see if I am still protected. If you are worried about running the equipment in an emergency and want to risk it, keep a cheap power strip handy. That is no worse than running with one of the others with blown protection |
Question: | Is there a way to turn off the bright “protected” light? It’s irritatingly bright |
Answer: | Just bought this. Seems odd that distance between screw holes is 116mm. Even odder that their conversion to inches is "4.54?". |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does the outlet plug go to the right? Or to the left |
Answer: | 14" L x 3" wide 1 1/4 thick |
Question: | Will the usb port overheat and breakdown if i will use it 24/7 to power my 2.4amp wifi cam |
Answer: | High wattage devices like space heaters draw a LOT of power (amps) and can easily overheat extension cords and surge protectors, causing fires. Even having more than 1 space heater on the same circuit in your house can cause a fire with your home's wiring/electrical outlets. Like others have said, plug your heater directly into the wall or find a SHORT extension cord (no surge protectors or power strips) that's rated for the number of amps your device draws. The lower the gauge (AWG) number (e.g., 10 or 12) means a thicker wire/cord and the more current it can handle, generally. |
Question: | What are the dementions |
Answer: | I didnt measure it but it screws in nice and tight to my standard outlet |
Question: | Will this keep a personal space heater running without tripping 4x a day? I usually have it on low, but it still trips my old surge protector |
Answer: | It is not designed to have the light removed and it is very very bright. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can i use this with kasa smart plug by tp-link (12 amp |
Answer: | I believe the USB rating is the lowest and standard amperage, which I think is about 1.2 amps per USB port? It's not the faster high speed amp rating if I"m correct on that info, but I think thats close to be accurate though, not a super fast charge, but I don't let my gear get totally run out of power charge to where it's shut down due to not enough power to the unit. |
Question: | what is the thickness of the thin part |
Answer: | The obvious difference is the shape of the connector. Type A is the full size USB that has been around for decades. It is the end of a standard USB cable shaped like a rectangle and it only fits in the host one way. USB C is much smaller with rounded corners and fits no matter how you insert it. Those are the differences in appearance, but the technical difference is much more complicated based on the USB C standard. I hope that helps. |
Question: | What is the max amp for a single USB |
Answer: | I put it so it was upright easy to access from right or left |
Question: | What’s the difference between type A and type C |
Answer: | I'm no expert but I believe it would be fine. This surge protector is a great product. |

Question: | Will this unit sufficiently handle a pc, router, printer, etc |
Answer: | Yes on the bottom it has screw hole mounts. It will require precision on setting the screws. |
Question: | how long is the outlet cord |
Answer: | It has a traditional plug, not the right-angle flat type. |
Question: | What’s the difference between axtra 8-outlet power strip to this product |
Answer: | Standard MOV protection nothing to "clean" the line just clamps surges. Straight plug. Recessed switch, small LED and nice soft cord that lays. Best are the plug sockets not being grabbers. Plugs move in and out with ease. |
Question: | How does APC 8 outlet power strip compare to axtra 8-outlet power strip |
Answer: | The male end is straight or conventional. Great plug strip not made of Chinesium materials. UL listed!! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does daisy-chaining two or more apc c2 filters somehow negate their intended purpose |
Answer: | Thank you for reaching out to us. You can plug a UPS into the conditioner but it would do the same job without the conditioner. Our UPS systems are designed to provide consistent power and battery back up to your computer equipment. |
Question: | How long is the power cord |
Answer: | No neither on on-grid nor on generator power will this function as well as nor similar to a power conditioner. This is a surge protector with RF noise filters to eliminate signal and picture problems coming through the power lines. It also has a surge supressor for voltage spikes. Power conditioners actually continually regulate voltage. |
Question: | can i plug an APC battery back up to the conditioner |
Answer: | Yes. Its US 3 pin plug compatible |
Question: | Would this work good as a power conditioner for TV if electricity was produced by a portable generator |
Answer: | It's about 1/2" |

- 3 Outlets with 1080 Joule Surge Protection
- 3 Surge Protected USB Charging Ports, sharing 2.1A of power
- Built-in Charging stand
- 6' Power Cord
User questions & answers
Question: | Is the amperage for the 3 usb ports 2.1a for all 3, or 2.1a for each |
Answer: | This is a power protecting plug. I have my phone charger plugged into this. If you have USB charger there are three USB ports. |
Question: | What are the dimensions of this surge protector |
Answer: | Straight |
Question: | Does this wireless charge your phone? If so, how do I set it up |
Answer: | Yes it can. Because of how normal MOV based surge surpressors operate, daisy chaining these devices can cause issues with surge surpressors counter acting each other or shortening their lifespans by creating a loop effect. Plus there's no benefit to "double filtering" on the RF side. If you feel you need better protection, there are better options for what two of these will set you back. |
Question: | Is the ac plug straight or right angled |
Answer: | one foot long |

User questions & answers
Question: | How many Joules in this UPS |
Answer: | Anytime power goes out completely there is a slight delay before the battery backup kicks in however it is very slight and does not usually affect what is plugged in to the battery backup side. they shouldn't go down but the router and time capsule might lose connection for a few minutes. I would not recommend plugging your printer into the BE550G at all. Use a separate power strip surge or an electronics surge protector that regulates the power. I have had many users over the years plug printers into their battery backups and 97% of the time the printer ends up killing the battery backup unit. |
Question: | Does the APC BE550G Back-UPS ES 8 Outlet 550VA 120V come with a battery or do you have to purchase it separately? If you do, which one does it use |
Answer: | I bought BE850M2 and it does NOT have an audible alarm...at least not like the old units that would start beeping as soon as the electricity was off. This is EXCELLENT BTW...who needs an alarm to tell you what you probably already know because the AC and fan just went out! But here is a question. I have and have had MANY APC units and this is a first. So, my question is, is OFF now the default? If so, that is indeed very good news. The better question is, can anybody confirm if the new variety of the 600va also have the alarm off by default? I need another, smaller unit. But, if the alarm is not off on the 600, I will get the 850. Thanks! |
Question: | Will BE550G w/ iMac 21.5" OSX 10.9.3;Airport time capsule/router & modem to battery and surge & Pinter to surge shutdown itself in power failure |
Answer: | USB Charging Output (Total Amps) is 2.10A - hope this helps! |
Question: | Can the audible beeps be totally disabled ? Its fine for me to monitor it only via PC with USB. I cannot have it beep at all in my environment |
Answer: | 5 inched x 5 inches x 1 inch |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this have backup battery for clock (so that I won't need to set up all again after power outage |
Answer: | Maximum current is 15A, same as a standard US household circuit. Tech specs are available in the manual: http://www.apc.com/salestools/SCON-82XNJ3/SCON-82XNJ3_R2_EN.pdf |
Question: | Will 1,500 watts total load be too much for this unit |
Answer: | Yes, you can. There are a total six time periods that you can program. For instance, you can program it to be on 8:00pm-10:00pm, on 11:00pm-12:00am, and so on. The only limitation is that all four sockets are programed the same. |
Question: | What's the maximum current rating on this outlet ? my AC draws 12Amp, is it alright to use it with this timer |
Answer: | Hi Nicole,Strange that this is not listed! This model is rated for 340 joules.HOWEVER, Joules in a UPS are not the same as Joules in a surge protector.A surge protector must protect for the entire duration of the surge, where a UPS will switch to battery. You will find that UPS Joules are MUCH lower than surge protectors. Not a bad thing, just used differently. Here are some links for you to review:https://www.apc.com/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=BE550Ghttp://forums.apc.com/thread/5473http://blogs.computerworld.com/19637/a_surge_protector_that_doesnt_protectDo not confuse a UPS with a surge protector. A UPS is MUCH better.Harold |
Question: | Is it possible to program this unit to turn it off during night i.e. turn off between 11.00pm to 5.00pm for e.g |
Answer: | The APC BE550G Back-UPS comes with a battery. This is the second APC unit I have used. The first is now in service for another system after replacing a 9 year old battery (at a very reasonable price).Ken |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this work with a TV as master and powered speakers and other dev as slaves |
Answer: | Our house was hit by lightning and we had to replace it after that. |
Question: | Is there a way to adjust sensitivity for the 'master' outlet - for low-power devices, for example |
Answer: | Hi Lisa, I have an APC P8GT. This surge strip has 8 outlets on it. 3 of the outlets are always on when the surge strip is turned on. 4 of the outlets are controlled by the master outlet. There is one master outlet. If you plug something into the master. When you turn on this device the surge strip then turns on all 4 of the outlets which are controlled by the master outlet. For example if you plug a stereo receiver in to master outlet when you turn the stereo receivers power switch on the surge strip will detect the power draw and then turn on the 4 outlets controlled by the master outlet. When you turn off the stereo receiver the surge strip will turn off the 4 outlets controlled by the master outlet. There is no way to set the time it turns anything on or off.I hope this helps you out |
Question: | How many serious surges this unit can handle? If its been hit by a serious surge can it still be depended upon to offer continued surge protection |
Answer: | According to the APC spec sheet, the timer is battery-powered (it does not say what the battery type is). |
Question: | What does "switchable" mean - can I control on off times for the 4 outlets |
Answer: | 1500W is 12.5A at 120V. This unit is rated for up to 15A, so yes, this unit can safely provide 1500W of power. Tech specs are available in the manual: http://www.apc.com/salestools/SCON-82XNJ3/SCON-82XNJ3_R2_EN.pdf |
