Answer:	No it does not have auto shutoff. You cannot tell from the box or the manual (since the manual is generic and covers a large number of models). I called the manufacturer. They said if you cannot see a clock on the front of the coffee maker, then it won't have an auto shutoff. I sent it back since I know I will often forget to shut it off.

Question:	My coffee maker is brand new but the coffee has a mildew taste. How can I fix this
Answer:	Wow! Never heard of this. First suggestion: Clean the pot with water and vinegar. Experts disagree on the ratio of water and vinegar. Some say equal parts. Some encourage a 2 or 3:1 ratio; two to three parts water to one part vinegar. Whatever ratio you decide to use, shut the pot off partway through the cycle for about 30 minutes and let the solution set. After the cycle is complete, run another cycle of water. Hopefully this will remove any taste in the tubes or other parts of the coffee pot. Also note your water supply. Any changes there? Consider your coffee. Is this a new can of coffee? If, after cleaning, you are still having problems, call Cuisinart. They were very helpful when we had a problem with our first machine. Wishing you the best in resolving this problem.
Question:	it is not brewing all the water, only very small amounts are getting into the carafe
Answer:	Different causes for this symptom. If water is leaking over the edge of the coffee basket instead of draining through the basket and/or filter, the basket may need a gentle fine wire-brush cleaning or the filter may need to be replaced.If there is no leakage over the rim of the basket, 3 things:1. The basket valve on the bottom is not opening and the auto-shutoff stops operation - fixes are a) ensure the carafe has the top on and is put directly below the basket so that the valve is opened by the carafe-top, b) either the electronic components of the auto-shutoff have failed or the mechanical components of the auto-shutoff have failed. Test the basket's mechanical auto-shutoff by filling the basket with water and putting the empty pot (with top on) under it to open the auto-shutoff valve - all the water in the basket should drain. 2. The charcoal filter in the water reservoir is blocking water flow, - test with a normal load of water without any coffee but take the charcoal filer out.3. Water tunnels between the water reservoir and the basket are blocked (sediment, etc.). If the above doesn't clear the problem, try the manufacturer's cleaning recommendations - especially if your water source results in sediment stains (commonly seen in toilet bowls) which can block the water tunnels over time.If the electronic circuit board is failing there is no fix other than replacement.

Answer:	No the electrical On switch no longer working has not been solved and this is the 3rd one of these I have purchased in 15 years, sounds crazy right? They make great coffee right up until they do not work at all! The 30 minute unplug fix worked for a couple weeks until the coffee pot hot plate base turned itself on this evening when I was in the next room, smelled that awful electrical burning smell, looked all over then saw the empty carafe cracked and singed and the hot plate burning away. No clock or lights were working. I quickly unplugged it and tossed it out in the bin! Glad I was home or I might not have had a home to return to! I am now shopping for another one that hopefully will not try to kill me!

Answer:	In addition to Randy B.'s CommentOne of the Most Important features/ changes to the 870 is the ThermoCoil Change, as the 860 had a Bolt together two Halfs with a seal sandwiched in between the two halfs this was a Possible failure point and could Leak down the road. I have seen reports of the thermo Block of the 860 leaking, But the new 870 uses a ThermoCoil, it is a Full length of Stainless Steel tubing (the water only comes in contact with the stainless steel) that coils around a few times nothing is Bolted together as the tubing is one continuous length to eliminate Leaks, and is surrounded by Aluminum, this alum houses the heater and makes for Fast heating up, for steaming and cooling down to 200 degrees for pulling the shot, so temps are more precise than before. This New ThermoCoil is a big Improvement over the 860 model. I saw a cut away version of both the 860 thermo block and the 870 thermoCoil the 870 is a much better design and should last a long time, as long as you don't run it out of water and burn it up. Question:	Can you choose the amount you want to brew? Can it do a small amount, just one or two cups at a time
Answer:	There is no setting for number of cups to brew. You can, however, pour the amount of water you want to brew into the water intake compartment at the top of the coffee maker. For example, if you want to brew two cups of coffee, fill your coffee cup with water twice and pour it into water intake opening. The coffee maker will brew that amount of coffee.

Answer:	I have the BT version of this coffee maker. It is the best coffee maker I have ever purchased! You can use the carafe, but I use a pitcher. If I know that the coffee will sit for a little bit, I rinse the pot with hot water to help keep the coffee hot in the carafe. My BT version makes fantastic coffee fast!

It has nothing to do with the amount of water or the lid too tight. Actually the lid on the one we purchased was the same as to it's fit. Something is wrong with the construction of this brand and it's too bad. West Bend has always been so reliable in the past.

Answer:	Just FYI. BPA free is great.... but it's worth knowing what's being used in it's place.
Question:	When do you add infuser? do you put infuser in after 32 ounces or after 3/4 full? thanks. the instructions say to add 32 ounces and to fill 3/4 full
Answer:	Actually, I pour the first 16 ounces through the infuser, over the grounds. I like to "bloom" the grounds first. I just hold the infuser in the pitcher, and pour the water with my other hand. Then I add the second 16 ounces, and add the infuser. The 32 ounces only fills the pitcher 3/4 full. It leaves enough room for water displacement when the infuser is added.
Question:	The suggested 28 tbsp coffee almost filled up the filter thingy - some grounds were even dry after sitting. What measurement works best
Answer:	I have the 2 quart pitcher and the instructions say 28-32 tablespoons or 2 cups of coffee for cold brew. I was confused at first and looking at the wrong directions and used only 1 cup. The coffee was drinkable but it was not as concentrated as it should be. Also, the instructions say to put it on it's side in the refrigerator which I didn't do the first time..
Question:	Can you use this to make ice tea? it seems the same as the Takeya ice tea maker but with a different colored top
Answer:	It's not the same filter. The coffee maker uses an ultra-fine mesh filter, while the iced tea maker uses one that is not as fine. We also recommend using two filters - one for coffee and one for tea to ensure that you get the best taste from each beverage.

Add Coffee

Add 14-16 tablespoons of your favorite medium roast, coarsely ground coffee to the infuser, then twist into lid.

Brew

Add 32 ounces of cold, filtered water to the Takeya pitcher, fill 3/4 full, then lower infuser into water.

Seal lid airtight, shake well and store in refrigerator overnight or up to 36 hours to cold brew. Occasionally twist open and swirl infuser. Remove infuser when brewing is complete. The result will be a brew of concentrated coffee.

Serve Hot or Cold

Hot Coffee - mix 1 part coffee concentrate with 2 parts boiling water. If desired add sweetener and creamer of your choice.

Answer:	There is a channel in the maker that passes grinds from the grinder to the filter. Instructions say to clean it out from time to time; you might try that - some grinds may have gotten caked and are blocking new grinds’ passage. However, mine did the same thing, and I never was able to get it to work, despite repeated cleanings. Better luck to you!

Question:	What is the difference between the shot, strong, and cappuccino setting? They all seem to do the same thing
Answer:	I had that problem a lot. I finally decided it was because I packed a little too many espresso grounds into it. Reduce that amount just a tad and the handle will more easily slide over to the "right" position. Note: I have also just made the espresso with the handle not completely rotated to proper position. Worked fine. You just want to make sure that the handle won't come off during the brew.
Question:	For lattes/espresso drinks do you need specialty espresso pods or can you use regular coffee pods and just brew like a shot
Answer:	Tamper is 51mm exactly. The guy who said 52mm was guessing, it is 51mm.
Question:	What is the tallest cup you can use? Will a travel mug fit
Answer:	If you have coffee drinkers who are not into espresso- it's a very easy fix. Just make them a Cafe Americano. Make a double shot of espresso, put it into a regular coffee cup, and fill it up with hot water. VOILA! Cafe Americano, which is basically a cup of coffee. My daughter started making these with my espresso machine and now it's the only cup of coffee she wants. It makes a very smooth cup of coffee that is naturally lower in acid due to the steam pressure way of making the espresso. If you want cappuccino or latte, simply use the attached steam frothing wand to steam the milk and then add the shot of espresso. It's a very hand little machine.
Question:	How many bar pressure it has? Does it produxe creama
Answer:	NO, at least not with this machine 1. Not room for appropriate espresso carafe under the spout, nor is there room for certain espresso cups. 2. I don’t trust any company whose literature makes huge mistakes on measurements of their product, such as above in description where it says there is only “66 Centimeters” max space for espresso cup; for the few Americans that don’t know, 66 centimeters is about two feet. The machine is barely over a foot tall, and the measurement they likely meant was 66 millimeters.... huge difference. 3. Have to buy special scaling solution to clean? Every other coffee pot and espresso machine (I’ve owned Almost a dozen) You simply use white vinegar...so I used vinegar on this machine as well, it took six run through of water afterwards to get rid of vinegar smell, which tells me there is too much left over in the internals when the machine is stopped. I’ve never needed to run more than three carafes of water through any espresso machine or coffee pot previously to get rid of all vinegar smell. 4. This machine only makes two shots of espresso at a time, that may be fine for some, but I have sleep apnea, I need at least four shots of espresso in the morning to kickstart my heart; and this machine is a little annoying g to have to do all the work twice to get the right amount of espresso when most home espresso machines are 4 shot machines. 5. Fifteen minute warm up? No other espresso machine I have owned has required a warm up. Put in fine grounds and water and turn it on, come back in about a minute and a half and there is four shots of espresso waiting for me. I have not even “broken in” this machine yet, and likely will have more to say after using it for a couple weeks, and by then maybe the fact that it holds so much water in comparison to what is made each time will warm my heart to this machine... but considering I have to use it twice every morning instead of once to get my required four shots, and have to wait fifteen minutes for it to warm up, I DOUBT it.... I have a feeling this will be in a garage sale soon, just after I go buy another Mister Coffee (which I also gave negative reviews about, but for a small piece that breaks on the machine making it annoying to remove old grounds, but still works and makes four shots at a time). I replaced a three year old Mister Coffee with this machine, I switched to this one because I needed a new machine immediately and so was at the mercy of what was on the shelves at nearest Base Exchange. Now that I have this one to use in the mean time, I will look for a new machine that I like (probably another Mister Coffee or a Krups, I’ve owned both and only had problems with Mister Coffee, but they always work for about three years, making four shots of espresso every morning....
