Answer:	I don't think it locks, but it collapses very easily by pulling on the indented handle in the middle. Just hold the handle and pull up and it collapses. I suppose if a hand or finger was holding onto a side, it might get pinched, but I don't imagine that happening. Collapses very easily just by pulling on the handle and it stays collapsed. Very handy little stool to have around.

By the way since I like the stool, I bought another purple stool, after returning two white ones, and the tabs are long enough and fit properly. So it does click in to place. I don't know why the white tabs weren't made longer.
