The connection for the micro usb cable is in the front. If at some point the battery is completely empty, the mouse works while connected to this usb cable. You need to plug the receiver (the little piece in the picture) into an available usb port in your computer and turn on the mouse with the switch that says on - off. There is a second switch for a blue light on the side that is just decorative (maybe helpful if you use the mouse in a completely dark environment) and the selection does not affect at all the use of the mouse.
