Answer:	Yes. I bought this bed to use during recoverly from a surgery that prevented me from going upstairs to our bedroom. As delived and set up, it was very low to the floor. I put a single bed mattress on top of the foam mattress and it was perfect. Also, I am in my 70's, and not good at assembling things. I managed all myself. This was great find.

If too stiff, it is much easier to add an additional foam mattress cover, though the 5in thick dense foam mattress it comes with is fine for us.
