User questions & answers
Question: | is this small enough to keep in your pants pocket |
Answer: | Yes. It's not as small as other magnifiers because of the battery compartment, but it should fit no problem in any pants pockets. |
Question: | what size batteries |
Answer: | It does not need batteries if you are only using it in daylight or brightly-lit areas. Otherwise, 3 x AAA is the correct size. These rechargeables http://amzn.com/B004SB1TD4 work wonderfully with it. |
Question: | What does aspheric mean in terms of a magnifier |
Answer: | An aspheric lens has less distortions around the edges of the magnifying lens. The mold has more of a concave shape to it to allow for clearer, sharper images. |
Question: | Can you turn off the light if you don't need it |
Answer: | The LED light only turns on if you slide the protective cover down all the way (once you hear the "click" sound, the LED light will activate. If you do not need the LED light, you can slide the protective cover down almost all the way before it clicks and the LED will not activate (you will still have full access of the lens). |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is the adapter here www.amazon.com/Carson®-MicroMax-Microscope-Adapter-MM-255/dp/B00BHW8J62/ for this model to use on my Samsung Duos GT |
Answer: | Hi Amber,Please note that the MicroBrite Plus Pocket Microscope (MM-300) is not compatible with any smartphones. The added image is just to show some different related Carson products like other pocket microscopes as well as products that can be used for digiscoping purposes. We apologize for any confusion. |
Question: | What exactly makes this item compatable with an iPhone or Galaxy |
Answer: | Yes. There is a button that activates the LED light that will stay on continuously until you press it again to turn it off. |
Question: | Does this have a light that stays on (one where you don't have to keep the button pressed down to keep the light on |
Answer: | The four main species of dust mites range in size from .008 inch long to .012 inch long. Therefore, at this microscope's lowest power (60X), the smallest of these dust mites would appear as if it was nearly 1" long to the naked eye; and at 120X, the largest species would appear as if it was about 1.4" long to the naked eye. As you can see, the MM-300 is not just adequate for this purpose, it's perfect. |
Question: | Can it be used to see dust mites and other insects not viewable with your eye |
Answer: | This Anatomy Lab skull is intended for beginners and basic study, so instead, we would recommend the Axis Scientific 3-Part Skull that includes all these details: https://www.amazon.com/Axis-Scientific-Interior-Structures-Detailed/dp/B00KZO8R56 |
Product features
For Best Results:
- Place the base of the microscope flush against a flat viewing surface
- Ensure the LED lighting is switched on
- Start focusing on the lowest magnification setting (60x)
- Once you have a clear view of your subject, increase the magnification to your desired level (you may need to slightly adjust the focus again slightly)
A note on using the MicroBrite Plus in the field: Due to high magnification, the focal distance of the MicroBrite Plus is very short (maximum of 2mm past the acrylic base). It is not possible to focus on subjects beyond this focal distance. Looking at larger, three dimensional objects or objects that are not on a flat surface takes practice and a steady hand, especially since small movements are exaggerated with higher magnification. This is why we recommend viewing flatter objects on a flat surface, especially when first using this microscope.
- Clip-on, Flip-up, Magnifying Lenses (clips on to your regular glasses)

User questions & answers
Question: | Are the clip on parts covered with rubber so they wont scratch your glasses |
Answer: | Yes,they are rubber, bu there are better options out there. I tried these but they were too much trouble getting them to fit properly on the glasses & then stay positioned correctly. Try Carson's website for more options. I am a fine scale boat craftsman & Thinoptics cheeters work best for me. |
Question: | Which one is best for reading small print |
Answer: | the +3.00 or +4.00 should work well. I have the +4.00 and have no issue reading fine print |
Question: | If i walk in walmart and near the pharmacy there are reading glasses and i use the ones that say "1.50" is it the 1.5x power/2.25 diopters? confusing |
Answer: | Reading glasses are typically listed in "diopter power" which refers to the curvature of the lens. "Magnifying power is NOT the same thing, rather referring to the image size divided by the object size. There is, however a simple mathematical relationship between diopter power and magnifying power: DIOPTERs Magnifying power Working distance Where f.l. is focal length; M is magnifying power; and D is diopter power D = 40”/ f.l. M = (D / 4) +1 f.l. = 40”/D 1 1.25x 40” 1.25 1.31x 32” 1.5 1.38x 27” 1.75 1.44x 23” 2 1.50x 20” 2.5 1.63x 16” 3 1.75x 13" 3.5 1.88x 12" 4 2.00x 10” 4.5 2.13x 9” 5 2.25x 8" 7 2.75x 5.5" 7.5 2.85x 5" 9 3.25x 4.5" 10 3.50x 4" 11 3.75x 3.8" 13 4.25x 3" 18 5.50x 2.3" 20 6.00x 2” 40 10.00x 1" I didn't show the entire table, just enough to make some easy comparisons for you. Most "reading glasses" range from about 1.25 D to 3 or 4 D for close work. Common hand lenses range from about 2x - 5x, while a typical jeweler's loupe is about 10x or 40 D. For comparison, the cornea of your eye is about 43 D, while the lens behind it ranges from 17 D to 19 D, and is flexible, providing your a range of vision. I hope this helps. |
Question: | I have trifocals but need magnification for crafts. Would these work with trifocals |
Answer: | They work well with my bifocals; so I don't see why not. I use them for sewing, for crafts, at the piano and at the computer (the latter two things, with bifocals, keep me from having to tip my head up and getting a sore neck while I'm working). All I can say is give them a try. Clip-on magnifiers release me from holding on to a magnifying glass. I don't know if they are equal to or better than a free-standing magnifier that lots of craft and sewing people use. But they're very handy and don't require the space that that sort of thing needs. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What size head, in inches, will this fit? Thx |
Answer: | I just received mine, in my opinion, it is not suitable for counted cross stitch. If you hold your work at the usual distance, it is too blurry. You have to hold your work about 11/2" to 2 " from your nose. I am past 60 and use reading glasses. I do think even with average eye site you'd have to hold the work that close of a distance. It would be great for getting a close up look at jewelry, model kits etc. I guess I'll have to spring for one of those lighted magnifiers on an arm. |
Question: | Can I use it to play "hidden Object" games on the computer |
Answer: | Yes, this can be done just by removing the screw on the left side and replace in the right one, then just position the loupe on the left side, I did the same thing since my best eye is the left. |
Question: | Will these work over eyeglasses |
Answer: | I tried it once. By the time I had twisted around in all directions (I'm 73) trying to see and hold my feet close enough and keeping them still, I had wiggled around until I fell off the couch and landed on the floor. Hilarious seeing this old lady trying to get up like a turtle on it's back! The only pedicuring I got was an unintended snip on my little toe. Not my toenail, but the flesh. Will not try that again. But it works really well for crocheting, tatting, knitting, reading when my eyes are hurting, plus many, many more things. I repaired an earring the other day with them. I agree with what DSE said. You need to be a contortionist! |
Question: | What is the magnification if you don't use the loup |
Answer: | Yes, you can wear them over your glasses. I have bifocals, it made the image blurry and I had to remove my glasses. |

Question: | Just git my magnifier. using 2 new aa batteries, i am shocked by how dim the lights. is this normal |
Answer: | YUP |

Answer: | Thank you for your inquiry. If you take a look at the product image, there is a small black switch on the grey panel that the lens attaches to. That will turn the light on and off. |
Question: | Is it easy to turn it on, i.e. not requiring a hard push? My elderly Mom needs this but has limited hand strength. Thanks |
Answer: | Very easy to turn it on and off. |
Question: | Is the lens replace the lens with a stronger one |
Answer: | No. If you need hands free multi-lense look over magnifier visor, Carson & other companies make them. Also, consider an eye glass type magnifier and reading glasses magnifiers. They come in 0.5X steps from 1.5X to 4.5X strength. |

User questions & answers
Question: | would this be a good magnifier to look for bugs on my plants? If not, please suggest alternative |
Answer: | I bought it to see some small prints in dictionary for example, and negatives ( old ones). For looking at small bugs like aphids and mites, it should work fine. Bigger ones would be too scary. You have to get very close. |
Question: | Does the glass/plastic base unscrew |
Answer: | The glass/plastic base does not unscrew. It is rather like looking for a more definite detail when viewing this unit. The way a diamond dealer would look for any minor to major crack or deminisce in a diamond per say. |
Question: | Does it work good for reading coins |
Answer: | Tom the problems I had when I tried using it to read coins is its pretty hard to put enough light on the coin without having to lift the magnifier off the coin. Then you're field of vision is even lower, if that's possible. For example, reading the date on a dime, and you can appreciate how small the date field is on a dime, I found myself having to use a flashlight (LED hi beam of course), lifting the Carson scope slightly, and moving it slightly in order to read the entire date. It drills down just that precisely. Now I could put the entire date within its field of view, but to read against the glare I found myself shifting it slightly so that I could read the whole date while minimizing the glare...If I had not purchased it, and know what I now know about this lumiloupe, I would shop around for something perhaps a little better. Now the 5x scope, it was 5 times the size of this 10x, and it zoomed in quite well, but again it was only 5x magnification. I would find another 10x with a larger base dimension. Hope this helps! |
Question: | can I view old camera negatives not 35mm |
Answer: | Yes you can. However, you will need some way to illuminate the negative from below. I use a light table that I made myself many years ago. It is just a wooden box with a white 1/4 inch plexiglass top. Inside the box are two fluorescent lights. I use the box with the Lumi-Loupe to examine slides and sometimes negatives. You can search Amazon for "light table" and find some ready-made solutions. They make some tables that use LEDs and I might even buy one of them myself as they are more compact than my current set-up! Good luck! |

User questions & answers
Question: | What material is the case |
Answer: | Plastic case and lens with a metal rivet holding a flip for the magnifier |
Question: | what is its magnifying power |
Answer: | The product is Carson® MagniFlip ***3x*** Flip-Open Pocket Magnifier |
Question: | Is this plastic or glass |
Answer: | Hi Leslie. It's not glass, but a very good kind of acrylic or plastic (very clear). The image quality is very good indeed. In my case 3X Magnification is perfect (I tried 2X and 5X and none were the right ones). Additionally the size of the lens is really good (not too big and not too small)The only thing I don't like much is the way it opens. But I can't say anything bad about the image quality. Hope this helps! If any other doubt, just ask :) |
Question: | What size is it closed up? L X W Thanks |
Answer: | I measured 2 1/4 x 2 1/4 " square. As the reviewer Marjorie mentioned, it sometimes is not easy to find the ridge that opens it, but this is a very handy little tool. I highly recommend it if you need some "help" reading labels and menus, etc. |

The SG-10 (3.5 inch) and the SG-16 (3.3 inch x 2.0 inch) both contain glass lenses while the lenses on the SG-12 (4.3 inch lens) and SG-14 (5.0 inch lens) contain acrylic lenses. While the acrylic styles are larger and lighter in weight, the glass lenses are less prone to scratching and allow for a slightly higher light transmission for sharper, clearer images. Glass lenses also tend to magnify a little bit more due to the density of the glass. However, the acrylic styles will cover a wider field of view and are easier to navigate with due to the lighter weight of the lens. The SG-16 style is a little more unique in that it has a rectangular shaped lens which makes it easier on the eyes for reading. The SG-16 also contains fold out, sturdy legs that allows the magnifier to stand up on its own for hand-held or hands-free usage. A soft padded, zippered case is included with every magnifier to protect the lenses from scratching and dust. The SureGrip Series magnifiers are perfect for everything from reading, crafts, hobbies, inspection and so much more! At Carson, we strive to make sure our customers are 100% satisfied with the quality of our magnifiers. We are so confident in our magnifiers that we back them with a Lifetime Limited Warranty! Carson will repair or replace your magnifier if it is found to have manufacturing defects in materials or workmanship. Please contact Carson for additional warranty details.

User questions & answers
Question: | Where is the hands free part as described |
Answer: | The SureGrip Series magnifier with the rectangular lens (SG-16) has two built-in metal legs that come down allowing users to use the magnifier in a hands-free fashion. Alternatively, this magnifier can also be used in a hand-held fashion if you hold it be the soft-grip handle. |
Question: | Has anyone used the sg-10 for firestarting? how did it work? thanks in advance |
Answer: | Nearly any reasonably good quality lens will get a spot hot enough to start, say, dry grass, smoldering. What ever you do, please do it so that there is no risk of an uncontrolled fire. Glass is better for this than acrylic. And the higher the power, the better. But for SCUBA diving? You don't say how you plan to use it, so I'll go out on a limb here. It might be worth trying this test. Place something waterproof with letters on it at the bottom of a 130 mm or so deep container with a flat bottom. The Pyrex 8-Cup (2 Quart) Measuring Cup with Read From Above level indication (Amazon) is a good example. Fill the container with water. Hold the magnifier above the surface of the water and observe the amount of magnification. Then immerse the magnifier in the water, and move it back and forth to see what the object looks like through the water only and through the magnifier under water. |
Question: | Would this be good for child use? Child is 6 years old. Kids brand products tend to be junk |
Answer: | I think it would be good for a 6 year old but under supervision. There are several ways to get into trouble with a magnifying glass such as using it with the sun to start a fire. Any child who knows Sherlock Holmes will especially love it. One interested in botany or bugs would also, I think. |
Question: | did the lens cover come with it |
Answer: | Yes. A protective zippered leatherette cover comes included with all of the SureGrip Series Magnifier models. If you have any other questions or concerns, please contact Carson's customer service department at 631-963-5000 and we would be glad to assist you further. |

Carson 4.5x SensorMag LED Lighted Cleaning Loupe for Camera Sensors
Tired of sending your camera into the manufacturer to have the sensor cleaned. Not only is it inconvenient, but it can also become very costly. Camera sensors and lenses are expensive and fragile and should be cleaned with great care. The Sensor Cleaning Kit from Carson includes the SensorMag 4.5x30mm camera sensor magnifier and the DustBlaster air blast cleaning tool. The SensorMag will help you clean any dust and debris on your camera sensor helping you to eliminate the need to digitally correct pictures.
LED Lighted
Featuring six bright LED lights located in the base of the SensorMag, you can enjoy a well lit route to a clean camera sensor.
Intelligent Design
The 4.5x power SensorMag rests comfortably inside the camera lens hole and has an adjustable focus for different size cameras and sensor depths. This hands-free loupe allows you to magnify and aids you in cleaning your camera sensor. There are two different diameter settings to fit most camera bodies. The SensorMag is unique in the fact that the lens can rotate 45 degrees out of the way which helps you to gain better access to the sensor while still being able to use the LED lights. It leaves room for a small tool or cleaning brush to be used while looking through the lens of the sensor. It is small enough to carry in your camera bag and comes included with a zippered pouch and 2 CR2032 button cell batteries.
Please note that the SensorMag is not compatible with mirrorless cameras.
Please also note that the SensorMag is designed to focus on the dust/debris that lays on the piece of glass above the sensor (not the sensor itself).
DustBlaster Air Blast Cleaning Tool
The air from the DustBlaster will effectively clean your sensor and lenses without contact, preventing any damage. The patent-pending Dust Block tip adds an additional valve that prevents dust from being pulled inside the blower. Only ambient air is pulled inside the blower. The DustBlaster provides 15% more air volume capacity than the leading competitor. The DustBlaster is made of silicone rubber so it won't degrade like natural rubber and potentially shoot out rubber particles onto your camera sensor and lenses. It includes a strap-belt clip that attaches to a camera bag strap or backpack for convenience and portability.

User questions & answers
Question: | Have you tried it on canon full frame? I have tried several magnifiers and they all focus before the sensor |
Answer: | Yes. The SensorMag will work on full frame cameras. However, the field of view is smaller compared to a full frame sensor, so you may have to look around (move your head/eyes) more to see to the full sensor, especially in the corners. Also, please note you will be able to focus on the dust on the plate above the sensor, not directly on the sensor itself. If you have any other questions or concerns, please contact Carson's customer service department at 631-963-5000 or by email at [email protected] and we would be glad to assist you further. |
Question: | Hi , Will this work for a Nikon D3300 , please |
Answer: | I use it for a Nikon D800 which is full frame and the D3300 is not full frame so you need to check the product information in more detail |
Question: | Will it focus on the sensor of mirrorless cameras such as the Sony Nex |
Answer: | With mirrorless cameras you have to hold the loupe's lens further above the camera's lens mount. An extender to accomplish this can be built or bought. You might google "maven loupe extender" to find a mirrorless adapter that Michael The Maven has built for this loupe. He also shows it being used in his cleaning video. I have not used it, so I can't comment on how well it works. |
Question: | It looks like this should work with the D800, but I can't get this to focus on the sensor. Does anybody know what I'm doing wrong |
Answer: | Yes, it should work. Are you focusing on the sensor itself or the dust on the glass plate above the sensor? If you are trying to focus on the sensor itself, it may not be able to focus. Regarding cleaning, you should be able to clearly focus on the dust above the sensor. If you have any questions, please contact our customer service department at 631-963-5000 or by email at [email protected]. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Carson optical PM-33. Directions on how to remove tab that protects the light |
Answer: | Thank your inquiry. We see that this question is on the PO-25 page, but is referring to the PM-33, so we just want to make sure that you're asking about the tab protecting the button cell batteries on the PM-33. If that is the case, the plastic tab should be easily pulled out outward. If there is an issue removing the tab, the battery panel can be removed by pushing in the direction of the imprinted arrow, and the remaining protective insert can be removed that way. |
Question: | Can this be used without the light |
Answer: | Yes, I thought I would not use the light, but I found I use the light often. You can use the 3X with out batteries. |
Question: | Is this good for seeing restaurants menus |
Answer: | Magnification is good and the light is bright. Should be good for menu's. |
Question: | what is size of the acrylic lens |
Answer: | The lens is 1 1/4 inches wide by 1 1/2 inches long. |
