I discovered it could be several factors: different insertion in the ear, earwax and the last time it happened to me my daughter had an ear infection in the ear with the higher reading. After her ear infection was cured the reading was just +- .2 different between the 2 ears.

Answer:	I don't think there is a full silent mode but its not to noisy I doubt it could wake anyone. The loudest sounds it makes only happens if a fever temperature is detected, but I still don't think it would be loud enough to wake someone as long as you took the temperature from the farthest distance possible. Question:	I'm getting readings that are all over the place. Is this really an accurate reading? 2.5 degree F temperature difference on consecutive measurements
Answer:	I think most thermometers will give you different readings, sometimes widely, if you use take measures too close to each other in time (e.g., if you use check temperature twice within 10 second). I use a very good German-made therostat and still have the same problem. I think if you check you temperature, wait for a couple minutes or so and check again, and it's a good thermometer if it gives you relatively similar readings. A more important thing is whether an ear or forehead thermometer gives readings that are close enough to an under-the-tongue thermometer.

Question:	Why does it state there is a difference between the ear and forehead. Which is the accurate reading. Shouldn't both record the same
Answer:	I'm not sure. However it's not really unusual, that's why hospitals take rectal temps in babies because rectal temps are more accurate. My thermometer didn't read much of a difference from forehead to ear though.
