13 best grip glass cutters
Grip glass cutters are hand tools specifically designed for cutting glass sheets and tiles. These cutters are widely used in various applications, including home improvement projects, crafts, and professional glasswork. Here are some key features and information about grip glass cutters:
Design: Grip glass cutters typically consist of a small, handheld tool with a sharp cutting wheel attached to one end. The cutting wheel is usually made of durable and hard materials like tungsten carbide, which enables it to score the glass surface effectively.
Usage: To use a grip glass cutter, the tool is held firmly and pressed down onto the surface of the glass. By applying controlled pressure, the cutting wheel scores the glass, creating a line or a groove on the surface. This scored line weakens the glass along the cutting path.
Breaking: After scoring the glass, a glass breaker or snapping tool is often used to apply pressure along the scored line, causing the glass to break cleanly along the score. Some grip glass cutters have integrated breaking features, making it convenient for users to break the glass without switching tools.
Types: There are different types of grip glass cutters available, including handheld cutters for straight cuts and circle cutters for creating circular shapes in glass. Some advanced models may have features like adjustable cutting heads for various angles and thicknesses of glass.
Safety: When using grip glass cutters, safety precautions are essential.Wearing safety goggles to protect the eyes from glass shards is recommended. Additionally, working on a stable surface and ensuring the glass is secure can prevent accidents during the cutting process.
Maintenance: Proper maintenance of the cutting wheel is important for consistent and clean cuts. Keeping the cutting wheel sharp and free from debris ensures efficient glass cutting.
Grip glass cutters are valuable tools for professionals and DIY enthusiasts working on projects that involve glass. When used correctly and safely, these tools provide precise cuts, making them essential for tasks such as installing glass panes, creating custom glass pieces, or completing mosaic projects.

Product features
About the Product
This oil feed glass cutter has a hollow pistol-like grip which can be filled with lubricating oil. It is very comfortable to hold and puts less strain on the wrists. The plastic handle glass cutter has a lightweight, tapered barrel with contoured finger channels designed to fit any size hand. This is a very popular glass cutter for beginners and those who have trouble gripping grip cutters.
Real Tungsten Carbide Wheel
The wheel is made of durable tungsten carbide. Tungsten is a much stronger material than steel. therefore it has a significantly longer life than steel wheels and offer greater and more reproducible penetration in scoring as well as easier opening of the scored glass. It also will last much longer before becoming too dull to make good score. It will also wont oxidize or rust like steel can. The cutting life is over 20,000 meters.
Replaceable Cutting Head
This pencil grip featuring a "changeable wheel/axle" is available for customers who want flexibility in changing wheel angles for different glass thicknesses. Package includes 2 Cutting Head (2-6mm, 6-12mm). Using a narrow head is perfect for intricate scores while doing pattern work and the wide head is designed for straight line production cutting. The cutting head can 360-degree rotate.
Anti-skid Grip and Comfortable to hold
The plastic handle glass cutter has a lightweight, tapered barrel with contoured finger channels designed to fit any size hand. Ergonomics handle design, feeling comfortable when holding, long time use saving labor.
Ball-end handle for snapping scored glass
Round metal knocking head, used for knocking glass after cutting or put it under the scratches of glass and split the glass. A rubber gasket on the metal head to prevent oil leaking.
Self-oiling
The automatic oil dispensing system will keep the wheel lubricated while you cut. The transparent handle also acts as a reservoir and lets you monitor the cutting fluid level. For beginners, it's hard to control the oil, to avoid the leak, you can just dab the tip in cotton ball or small cloth soaked with oil before scoring your glass without adding oil into the handle.
Wide Application
IMT hand-held glass cutters are designed and manufactured for the industries of Glass & Glazing, Hardware, Glass Fabricators, Stain Glass and Glass Float Plants. Can be used to scire lines on surfaces like Glass, Mosaic, Tiles, Mirrors, Diamond and Minerals.
How to Use
1. Thoroughly clean the glass you intent to cut. Lay the glass on a clean, flat, layered surface. Measure and mark the glass where you wish to cut.
2. Add some oil into the handle, which make the cutting head more fluent when cutting.
3. Hold glass cutter firmly, maintain the same pressure through out the score. Oil will be emitted as you work You can also use a ruler to score the line.
4. Gently tap the glass underneath the line with the metal ball head, and the glass will break along the line neatly.
6. Smooth out any sharp edges.
Notes:
1. Always wear clear safety glasses and protective gloves while cutting.
2. Don’t go back for a second stroke: score it only once in a smooth, even motion.
3. Cold glass is harder to work with. Getting your glass closer to room temperature makes it easier to work with. Not for use with tempered glass.
4. Practice makes a more confident maker

User questions & answers
Question: | I need 6 units. These arrived until Thursday to Atlanta |
Answer: | The replacement head is the major component of the cutter, and can be used in a variety of handles. |
Question: | is the head replaceable |
Answer: | Do not Fill the oil Reservoir! Only put in just enough to cover the tip end. … and don't overtighten the threaded plug or you will crack the plastic reservoir. I have had my Toyo Cutter for over 15 years and store it on its side so that the oil does not drip into the head. |
Question: | I need to cut glass mosaic tiles for a kitchen backsplash. They are small rectangular tiles. Would this cutter work for that |
Answer: | This cutter will cut standard size glass sheets. If you want to cut thicker glass look for the Amazon listing "Toyo "Tap Wheel" Thick Glass Cutter by Toyo". This cutter has been designed to cut THICK glass. Use for plate glass or glass tiles from 1/4 to 3/4" thick. The special Tap Wheel applies a deeper score, giving a cleaner edge. Many glass fusers use this cutter when trimming fused blanks or cutting strips for re-fusing. Hope that helps! Liz Renee, Nartique Glass, Casselberry, FL |
Question: | Hi, What's the chance of this cutter breaking? Is the acrylic durable? Sorry i don't know my products. Thanks |
Answer: | The metal part is 5mm in total. The cutting wheel opening is 1 mm, while the holder is 2 mm on each side of the slot that holds the cutting wheel. I suppose that makes the cutting edge 2.5 mm from the edge of the holder. I have my grid set up to reflect the thickness when cutting strips. BTW, it's a great cutter! |

Question: | Does this Glass Cutter come with cutting oil |
Answer: | SC Shop - The handle intentionally spins so you can manipulate the cutting head with your fingers while still applying pressure with your palm (I have that paddle between my thumb and pointing finger when I use it). You can adjust the distance the paddle is from the bottom of the tool by removing the knurled cap up top and moving the spacer to the top or bottom and by flipping the paddle to the upper or lower position based on what feels more natural for you. Hope this helps. Rob at SW Art Glass |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this come with oil |
Answer: | If its glass used for making stained glass crafts it will |
Question: | Is it supposed to come with the plastic tube in the photo |
Answer: | No, any cutter you buy, you add oil Yourself. |
Question: | Can glass cutters be used to cut cardboard or card stock |
Answer: | This type of cutter is best on 1/8th inch or less glass, although it can go a bit thicker, but probably not as much as 1/4 inch. It depends on how skilled you are at cutting glass. There are special cutters for thicker glass. Strictly speaking, these 'score' or 'scratch' glass, which weakens the surface and allows it to break along the line. Once the glass is scored, there are numerous ways to break along the score. With a thicker glass, I'd try tapping along the line on the other side of the glass to get a break started, and then run it along the whole score. With 20+ years of experience with stained glass, I still don't have much luck getting a clean break on thicker glass. But I don't try to do it very often. |
Question: | can this tool cut ceramic tiles |
Answer: | I've worked in stained glass for twenty years now. What I've learned is that NONE of the pistol grip type cutters feed oil reliably, even the Toyos. What I do is put my cutting oil in a small--babyfood--jar, and dip the head in the oil frequently while cutting. Putting a small piece of the plastic abrasive cleaning pads into the jar keeps from damaging the head of the cutter. Never use an oil feed cutter. |

- Ergonomical & Non-slip Cutter: Non-slip metal handle combines ergonomics design enable comfortable holding and labor saving for better customer experience. The cutter is threaded to ensure slip resistant. 2 blades and screwdriver included for cut glass with different thickness.
- Round Metal Tapping Head: The metal head is made of premium steel, wear-resistant and well polished. It could be used to strike glass after cutting or put it under the glass scratch and split the glass.
- Compact Glass Cutter Tool: The glass scoring tool is lightweight and portable for easy carry and go. It could be slipped into your backpack or packed at anytime and anywhere, which should be added to your collection. Order with 100% confidence now!

Question: | Am new to stained glass. Have a Toyo cutter. Does the oil go in the handle or directly on the glass |
Answer: | I don't recall an odor. You only use a very thin line of oil to cut with and the residue is easy to clean-up. |
Question: | im looking for paymenth method |
Answer: | For a steel cutting tool oil is needed but for a carbide cutting wheel oil is not absolutely necessary but can be helpful. The oil lubricates the wheel allowing consistent rotation and can also lubricate a cutting guide such as a straight edge to assist in a smooth consistent cutting stroke. The oil can also reduce heating of the cutting wheel on long and/or multiple cuts where friction causes heating thus increasing the life of the cutter. The oil can also reduce glass dust during the cut. |
Question: | How would I drill holes in China and glass plates |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is it just mineral oil |
Answer: | No it does not |
Question: | Will this work in a pistol grip glass cutter |
Answer: | Hello David,No, sorry. The factory ships these cutters empty. If you search "GAI Cutter Oil" or "Novacan Cutter Oil" you should find them with no trouble on the Amazon Marketplace. My preference is the Novacan Oil.==ScottSunshine Glassworks LtdBuffalo, NY 14227 |
Question: | will this work with a diamond drill bit for holes in bottles instead of using the water method everyone uses |
Answer: | Hello Sylvia,Yes, the little plastic tube is actually a mini eye dropper. You use it to fill the handle with cutter oil. Don't put much oil in at a time, otherwise when you set the cutter down, it will leak through the filler cap. You can also avoid that by keeping the cutter more or less vertical in a old coffee cup while you are using it. When finished for the day, tighten the filler cap to prevent leakage in your tool box. This is a very durable cutter and you will likely pass it down to your grandchildren.Sincerely,ScottSunshine Glassworks Ltd.Buffalo, NY 14227 |
