A hinged knee brace is a type of medical device used to provide support, stability, and protection to the knee joint. These braces are commonly used for a variety of reasons, such as injury recovery, post-surgery support, or to prevent knee injuries during physical activities. Here's what you need to know about hinged knee braces and their related aspects:
Knee Braces: Knee braces are orthopedic devices designed to support and stabilize the knee joint. They come in various types, including hinged knee braces, which have specialized hinges on the sides of the knee joint. These hinges allow controlled movement of the knee while providing stability and protection.
Leg Foot Supports: Hinged knee braces fall under the category of leg and foot supports. These supports are used to address various leg and foot-related issues, with knee braces focusing on knee stability and protection.
Braces Splints Supports: Hinged knee braces are part of a broader category of orthopedic devices known as braces, splints, and supports. These devices are designed to immobilize or provide controlled movement to injured or weakened body parts, aiding in the healing process.
Medical Supplies Equipment: Hinged knee braces are considered medical equipment and are commonly used in the medical field for post-injury or post-surgery recovery. They can be prescribed by healthcare professionals to assist patients in their rehabilitation process.
Health Household: Within the context of health and household items, hinged knee braces are essential for individuals recovering from knee injuries or surgery. They are a valuable tool in maintaining knee joint integrity and functionality.
Key features and benefits of hinged knee braces:
Stability: The hinged design of these braces offers a higher level of stability compared to non-hinged knee braces. They can help prevent excessive side-to-side or rotational movement of the knee joint.
Support: Hinged knee braces are often used to provide support for individuals recovering from ligament injuries, such as ACL or MCL tears, as well as meniscus injuries. The support they offer can aid in the healing process and prevent further damage.
Controlled Movement: The hinges on these braces allow controlled movement of the knee joint, which can be beneficial during rehabilitation. It enables the gradual reintroduction of movement without risking injury.
Injury Prevention: Some athletes and individuals at risk of knee injuries wear hinged knee braces during physical activities to reduce the chances of injury, especially if they have a history of knee problems.
When using a hinged knee brace, it's essential to follow the guidance of a healthcare professional. The brace should be adjusted properly to fit the individual's anatomy, and it should not be too tight or too loose. Using a hinged knee brace correctly can help individuals recover from knee injuries and regain mobility with added protection and stability.

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this the best brand? The quality of how |
Answer: | I own this brace and the 875. I purchased both in 2014. I use the 875 every week in Houston while playing tennis and the 872 is used about 1/2 the time on the other knee. I tried on many brands and the Shock Doctors felt like they gave me the best support but everybody's knee is different. I don't see any excessive wear on the 875 even though I have been using it 3 hours a week for 6 years in the high humidity and heat of Houston. I can push off as hard as possible and it does not slow me down. I would not call it comfortable but it is very comforting to know I can't hurt my knee. |
Question: | Is there some way to select whether the brace is for the left or right knee |
Answer: | There is no right or left for this brace. |
Question: | I measured 2" below the center of the knee cap and got 14.25" to 14.5" . Would you recommend the L or XL |
Answer: | Mine measured at 15.25, which I could have gone with the XXL instead of the XL. My only issue was when it was new, it was very difficult to put on, because it fit me really tight/snug and it doesn't help that my calf muscle is pretty well formed. I have had it for a few weeks now and it has stretched a little, but it is still snug, easier to pull up now. So, to kind of answer your question....I usually am an XL, so I went with XL. You are like me, you are in that in between size where you could go either way, I would just go with the way you think would better suite you. I like that fact that it's snug, I feel like the XXL would have become a little loose. Hope that helps. |
Question: | Is this brace a strap on or a slip up sleeve type brace. Thank you |
Answer: | Slip on with top and bottom Velcro adjustments. Good brace with lightweight fabric behind the knee for comfort - no binding or squeeze. |

User questions & answers
Question: | does this knee brace cover back side of leg or is it open behind the knee |
Answer: | Yes, there will be an opening on the back of the knee, between where the upper and lower straps wrap around your leg. The size of the opening probably depends on how well the brace fits your leg, if you can barely get the straps to connect at the Velcro pads, the opening may be larger. The opening helps cool your legs, particularly in hot, humid summer weather where your knee will sweat a lot. Most braces I've owned have an opening at the back, except slip on models like Mueller Hg80. |
Question: | Will this brace help with balance |
Answer: | Probably only a doctor could answer this question. There are many causes for balance problems. For me, the brace has worked well for a knee problem and strained leg muscles. After about 10 days of use, I no longer use the brace. |
Question: | Where should the ace tag be? top right |
Answer: | Unfortunately since this brace did not fit me, I am not able to answer you question. |
Question: | Are there hinges on both sides of the brace |
Answer: | Yes there are. Also velco strips plus straps at top and bottom. This is one of the few braces I've tried that won't slip down during certain physical activities. |

Question: | Does the hinge allow for full flexion or does it stop at a certain angle |
Answer: | Mine measured at 15.25, which I could have gone with the XXL instead of the XL. My only issue was when it was new, it was very difficult to put on, because it fit me really tight/snug and it doesn't help that my calf muscle is pretty well formed. Question: | Can this be worn in water |
Answer: | Slip on with top and bottom Velcro adjustments. Good brace with lightweight fabric behind the knee for comfort - no binding or squeeze. |
Question: | Is there a warranty? have own this from March of 2020 and the compression straps are not holding anymore |
Answer: | There are monitors for pets and infants. It is a sticker type ( like a band aide which can go on one of their fingers. ( ideally index or thumb) It has to be put on correctly and not in a way to cut off their circulation. |
Question: | Is this a sleeve or wrap-a-round |
Answer: | It seems to start recording the numbers after 10-15 seconds after placing your finger into it. Seems very accurate and fast results. I am happy with this product. :-) |
