14 best instant colds
Instant cold packs are devices designed to provide quick and localized cold therapy for various purposes, such as pain relief, injury management, and reducing swelling. These packs typically consist of a flexible outer layer and an inner pouch containing chemicals. When the inner pouch is broken or squeezed, it activates a chemical reaction that causes the pack to rapidly cool down.
Key features and uses of instant cold packs include:
Convenience: Instant cold packs are convenient for immediate use without the need for refrigeration. They are often used in emergency situations, such as sporting events or first aid scenarios.
Injury Management: Cold therapy is commonly used to manage acute injuries like sprains, strains, and bruises. The cold helps reduce inflammation, numb pain, and limit swelling by constricting blood vessels in the affected area.
Post-Workout Recovery: Athletes and individuals involved in physical activities may use instant cold packs to aid in post-workout recovery. Applying cold therapy can help alleviate muscle soreness and expedite recovery.
First Aid: Cold packs are a staple in first aid kits and are used to address various injuries, including burns and insect bites. The cold sensation can provide immediate relief and minimize damage to the affected area.
Migraine and Headache Relief: Some people find relief from migraines and headaches by applying cold packs to the head or neck. The cold sensation may help numb the pain and reduce blood flow to the area.
Dental Use: Instant cold packs are sometimes used in dental care to alleviate pain and swelling after oral surgeries or dental procedures. They can be applied externally to the face.
Construction and Transportation: Instant cold packs are often included in first aid kits for workers in construction and transportation industries. They provide a quick and portable solution for addressing injuries on the job.
It's important to follow the instructions provided with each specific cold pack to ensure safe and effective use. While cold therapy can be beneficial for certain conditions, it's essential to consult with a healthcare professional for personalized advice, especially for chronic or severe injuries.

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the lowest temperature in C does this pack reach |
Answer: | Yes, they do BUT please just CHECK it in. This happened to me last April, I forgot and had a couple in my carry on, so much hassle they will test it & took forever to figure out it's a safe chemical... |
Question: | What are the contents inside the instant cold pack |
Answer: | Manufacturer states they remain cold for 30 minutes but depends on the surrounding temperatures and conditions. |

Question: | How long do they stay cold, please |
Answer: | I believe it is only a USA plug but it should work the same through any USA to UK/Singapore adapter |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the size of the ice pack |
Answer: | I do not have much luck trying to squeeze them to break the inner package. I place them in the palm of my hand with the inner bag centered and give it a sharp rap with my other hand on the inner bag. |
Question: | What is the lowest temperature the cold pack can reach |
Answer: | I didn't measure the temperature but would say right around 35 degrees F. They are about as cold as what I took out of the freezer. They stayed very cold for about ten minutes and then just cool for another ten. My doctor said to ice for 15 to 20 minutes at a time so this was perfect. Of course, the best part was I didn't have to get out of bed in the middle of the night or bother my wife to help out. |
Question: | Do these break open easily when squeezed? I bet another brand that I could not get the inner bag to break |
Answer: | Mine did not say pack of 2 -- it just 24-count. I am thinking you will get 48 packs. |
Question: | how many degrees cold, how many minutes does it lasts |
Answer: | NEVER TRIED BUT I SUSPECT IT WOULD |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you used this to cool down while hiking |
Answer: | Check with TSA as they would probably know. Also check online with an airline that is specific to the country you are flying to. Example is British Airways which flies to the UK. If they don't allow them use a ziplock bag and get ice from the flight attendants. That's what I do. |
Question: | I can't get it to activate. I have squeezed it together every which way, what am I doing wrong |
Answer: | Probably not. These are chemical based packs that become cold, but not ice cold, the minute they're activated. (Crushed in bare hands and shook) They're mostly for portable, on the spot cooling for injuries and often used to cool down over-heated persons with quick easy application behind the neck, knees, etc. until real ice can be obtained. Also, they loose their chill in most cases within 30 minutes. They would work to cool down some candy bars or fruit but again....30 minutes and they're pretty well spent. My suggestion is "Freezer Blocks". They're reuseable, very efficient and long lasting in a decent cooler, inexpensive and come in a multitude of sizes. IF Amazon does not have what you want, check your local "W" store in the sporting goods/cooler area. Good luck!! |
Question: | Can these be stored in a vehicle where they may get hot during the summer? Are there any warnings on the label about how to store them |
Answer: | No idea, but they work well. |
Question: | What is the trick? I have squeezed and twisted and nothing happens |
Answer: | YES. From TSA website: Instant/rapid ice packs that are activated by force—when used for medical/first aid purposes. These items are allowed in carry-on or checked baggage—when carried for medical purposes such as the treatment of sporting injuries. These products contain ammonium nitrate (a hazardous material) and are activated by force such as squeezing them or striking them. They are often used for first aid during sporting events. Quantity limits: Included in, not in addition to, the quantity limits for medicinal and toiletry articles: The total aggregate quantity per person cannot exceed 2 kg (70 ounces) or 2 L (68 fluid ounces). The capacity of each container must not exceed 0.5 kg (18 ounces) or 500 ml (17 fluid ounces).* See the regulation: 49 CFR 175.10(a)(1) |

Question: | This co tain ammo ia nitrate |
Answer: | i dont recall ....but it is very hard to break the inner pack and i do not recommend this brand.. |
Question: | what are the ingredients of this product |
Answer: | Questions to consider: checking bags or bringing them on the plane, once known; how long do you need to keep things at a lower temp. These bags work for 35-40 minutes. But if hotter they can lose their temp quickly |
Question: | Do these cold packs contane urea |
Answer: | Six years ago we weren’t certain if any airline would allow them in checked luggage or not. They would not have been allowed in the air cabin. The product never got very cold nor lasted more than a couple of minutes. You would be better off getting better cold packs and ship them directly to your destination instead of taking checking them in luggage or trying to carry them on. |
Question: | My daughter is currently on materiny leave and will be going back to work in late July and be on a business trip right away for 3 days. She will have to pump her breastmilk and store the bags in the hotel's frig. Can she use these cold packs to keep the breast milk cold in her suitcase on her return flight from Dallas |
Answer: | Thank you for your inquiry. We do not recommend refreezing Dynarex's Instant Cold Packs. |
