Answer:	I am not an expert but I believe it is not a "near infrared" lamp, it's a regular infrared one, like the one I owned and used for years in Europe. By the way this model is an excellent product (sturdy, well designed). worth every penny (or dollar)!

Answer:	It is plenty warm. I keep it around 12 inches from my neck aimed at my spine and it relieves so much pain. It takes maybe 5 minutes for the warmth to start going deep; 10 minutes for the "ahhh this feels great" and after 15 minutes that's when I'm really enjoying it andv getting a lot of therapeutic relief. If you keep it on for 30-60m you can start sweating but not always. This isn't designed to make you sweat...
