| Answer: | i make my bear creek navy bean soup mix in my crock pot and never had an issue. it never came out mushy. i throw in some ham chunks and chopped onion along with the ingredients in the package and water as called for. i also add a drained can of cannellini beans ( white kidney beans) and i cook it on low all day in my crock pot. we have not had any issues with it being mushy. my advice is just try making it once in your crock pot and see how it comes out. you probably will want it to cook less time than i make it as the ham should already be cooked and if you add onion to it that will cook in the crock pot also. if you use uncooked ham chunks you will want to cook it longer to make sure the ham gets cooked all the way through. i have been making this soup for years in my crock pot and never had any issues. if you are uncomfortable making it in the crock pot just put it on the stove in a good size pot and add your ingredients and it cooks up in no time. for me i like to smell it cooking all day on low and my husband loves it. season the soup to your taste. also i make either biscuits or corn muffins to go with the soup. good luck with your soup however you end up making it. |
