13 best mexican vanillas
Mexican vanilla refers to vanilla extract or vanilla products that originate from Mexico.Vanilla is a popular flavoring agent used in various culinary applications, including baking and cooking. Here are some key points about Mexican vanilla:
Flavor Profile: Mexican vanilla is known for its unique flavor profile. It is often described as smooth, creamy, and slightly spicy, with hints of caramel and chocolate. This distinctive flavor is attributed to the species of vanilla orchid (Vanilla planifolia) grown in Mexico and the traditional curing process used.
Vanilla Orchids: Mexico is one of the regions where vanilla orchids are cultivated. The vanilla beans, also known as vanilla pods or vanilla beans, are the fruit of these orchids. The beans are harvested and processed to extract the vanilla flavor.
Traditional Extraction: Mexican vanilla extract is traditionally prepared by steeping vanilla beans in alcohol. This slow, natural extraction process allows the complex flavors of the beans to develop fully. Some Mexican vanilla extracts may also contain sugar or other flavor-enhancing ingredients.
Varieties: There are different types of Mexican vanilla, with the most famous being "Bourbon vanilla" (named after the Bourbon Islands, not the whiskey). Bourbon vanilla from Mexico is highly regarded for its quality.
Usage: Mexican vanilla extract is commonly used in baking, desserts, and various sweet dishes to impart a rich, warm, and aromatic vanilla flavor. It is a versatile ingredient that enhances the taste of cakes, cookies, ice cream, and custards.
Substitutes: Mexican vanilla can be substituted with other types of pure vanilla extracts, such as Madagascar vanilla or Tahitian vanilla, but the flavor profile will vary. Artificial vanilla flavorings, on the other hand, lack the complexity and depth of natural vanilla extracts.
Quality and Authenticity: When purchasing Mexican vanilla extract, it's important to ensure its authenticity. Look for products labeled as "pure Mexican vanilla extract" to ensure you are getting a genuine product.
Regulations: Be aware that there have been issues with counterfeit Mexican vanilla extracts, so it's advisable to purchase from reputable sources or directly from Mexican producers if possible.
In summary, Mexican vanilla is prized for its unique flavor and is commonly used in baking and cooking to enhance the taste of various dishes. It is essential to source authentic Mexican vanilla products to fully enjoy the distinctive flavor it offers.

Answer: | Would not buy this product again. Taste is awful and not true extract!!! |
Question: | Is this make from tonka tree or vanilla beans |
Answer: | Hi, I have sold this vanilla for over 10 years with no problems. The label says vanilla bean extacts in water. I offer a money back guarantee if you are not satisfied. I only sell and do not manufacture this item. |
Question: | Has the product quality gone down since the vanilla shortage there are a lot of bad reviews |
Answer: | something was wrong with it. Had a bad smell and taste was off. Ended up throwing it away. Note, it was the first time I ever got this product, and will not get again |
Question: | is the vanilla watered down |
Answer: | I bought this product and when it came to the house and was able to read ALL the ingredients in the bottle (not happy) about what is in this product!! First of all this is a flavoring not an extract as being sold as. INGREDIENTS: Vanilla Bean extara]ctives in water and Natural Flavors, POTASSIUM SORBATE. NO ALCOHOL. EXTRACTS have to have 35% Alcohol to be considered an EXTRACT. And further more what in world do you need to have Potassium Sorbate in Vanilla???? Very disappointed in this product and would NOT Recommend to anyone buying this product. People do your homework, just because it's cheap does not mean it's good. You get what you pay for. I run a bakery and pride myself on using good wholesome products. Also, you should be able to read the whole label before you buy the product to see what is in it. |

- La Vencedora Mexican Vanilla (31.79 oz) (2 Pack)
User questions & answers
Question: | I have la vencedora vainilla pura and wish to purchase more Is this the same product |
Answer: | I recently purchased and it seems to be the same that I have purchased from other sources in the past. |
Question: | Is this for one or two bottles |
Answer: | I have ordered this and it is TWO, bottles but recently ordered the 4 pack. All were well and safely wrapped and packed. I love this vanilla! |
Question: | What is the shelf life of this product |
Answer: | I’ve kept mine for over a year and it’s still got a full vanilla flavoring!!! I would totally recommend this product for flavor and shelf life! |
Question: | Is this pure or just flavoring |
Answer: | Any vanilla using vanillin is an artificial flavor, and is synthetically processed. A true high-quality vanilla (like Penzeys) is 35% alcohol and uses 100 vanilla beans per gallon (or 200 for their double strength). That's why it is $50 for 8 ounces! It's a case of "you get what you pay for." That being said, I have used the La Vencedora vanilla flavoring in baking for years, and it's very delicious! Just know what you're buying. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this alcohol free |
Answer: | Looked at the ingredients listed. It says Pure Vanilla and does not contain coumarin. I know that most vanillas are made with alcohol. In fact I usually make my own vanilla using high quality vodka and vanilla beans. |
Question: | How tall is the 16.8 oz bottle |
Answer: | It is 8 inches tall. |
Question: | What are the ingredients listed on the bottle? Thank you |
Answer: | Under ingredients it lists: "Pure Vanilla. This product does not contain coumarin." The label also states "Vanilla Beans Inside." This was the first Mexican vanilla I've ever used & it has a distinctly different flavor than traditional vanilla, though it is still quite delicious. |
Question: | Is this clear Vanilla |
Answer: | Thank you for your question. This is an amber vanilla. |
Product description
Our products are defined by the satisfaction of our customers and the 100 percent pure vanilla extract that is used in every bottle. The selling point of our vanilla is the great flavor and a vanilla bean inside. Besides the flavor that you can use in your dessert, confections and pastry recipes
- All natural, Non-GMO, Pure Vanilla Extract
User questions & answers
Question: | Its bad enough FDA requires only 51% to label something "pure" is really necessary for sellers and distributors also be deceptive and ambiguous too |
Answer: | This does not seem to be the type of question that needs an answer from me. Maybe Amazon. The label says pure vanilla. All I can say is when I taste vanillas with vanillin as an ingredient, I can taste it. I can also taste artificial vanilla. Both of those ingredients leave a terrible aftertaste in my mouth. Totonac's does not and the scent of vanilla can stay on my hands until the next day, even after washing dishes over and over again. When I first opened my first bottle of Totonac's, it was almost like a perfume. This was unlike any vanilla I had ever opened up until that time. |
Question: | difference between pure vanilla and pure vanilla favoring |
Answer: | - The product title says "pure vanilla flavoring", but the product is natural vanilla. -- Sometimes, there are linguistic or labelling differences when an Amazon product is an imported item, so what the title means is that this is a pure vanilla product, no artificial stuff, *used* as a flavoring, meaning, it's not a drink, since I seem to recall that there *are* some vanilla drinks out there. This is luscious :) - On the other hand, this just smells *so* luscious that it's tempting to also use it as cologne, LOL! |
Question: | Does it contain sugar |
Answer: | NO, read the label now. It is 2018, and the label is different from the people commenting on the label ingredients in 2015. The only item on the label now is "vanilla bean extractives". No alcohol, no water, no sugar, like the original. You have to have alcohol in any extracts as its the alcohol that draws out the flavors. This is a watered down copied version and not the same at all as the original. Check out the label photos posted on this product from several years ago when they were selling the real one, and the copied version now. It is not vanilla extract at all. Tastes like water, and bad flavored water at that. You will want to throw it away. There is almost a chemical aftertaste. |
Question: | Can you list the ingredients for this vanilla |
Answer: | Alison, what label are you reading. Maybe since your comment was from 2015, this product used to have those ingredients in it. I just got this, December 2018, and the only ingredient on the label is vanilla bean. It doesn't even list anything else, or the liquid base. This is a big bottle of water. I have called Amazon to report the sale of this product and the false labeling of what it is. It even has a gold sticker on the label, built in, that says, FDA approved. I am sure the FDA would pull it as its falsely labeled according to what is inside the bottle. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is there any difference between the taste of the clear vs the dark. Is there perhaps coloring added to the dark which is the only real difference |
Answer: | Yes, there is a slight difference. Dark vanilla has a bit heavier or earthy flavor, whereas the white is lighter...I use it in whipped cream so as to not overwhelm the delicate taste of the cream. |
Question: | does one of these bottles have a flip top cap - i previously threw out my white bottle not realizing that the dark bottle only had a twist on cap |
Answer: | Both of mine only have the twist caps. But don't you just love the vanilla? |
Question: | why the different spellings of "vanilla |
Answer: | don't know bout spellings but this is by far the best vanilla I have ever had. I like to bake and could never go back to the vanilla that is sold other than this. |
Question: | Does Danncy brand Pure vanilla extract contain coumarin |
Answer: | Pure Vaniila Extract is required to contain the extractives of 13.35 ounces of vanilla beans with a minimum of 35% alcohol by volume by Code of Federal Regulations. This product does not contain any alcohol and it is not Pure Vanilla Extract as the label states. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What are the ingredients |
Answer: | Vanilla Bean Extract |
Question: | Would this work for making ice cream well |
Answer: | I can't think of any reason why you could not use this brand of pure vanilla extract to make ice cream. In my opinion, there is no better aroma and flavor. |
Question: | Does this contain alcohol |
Answer: | Yes. It can’t be called “vanilla extract” unless it contains at least 35% alcohol. |
Question: | What are the ingredients |
Answer: | according to the label, nothing other than vanilla bean extract and a vanilla bean. |
Product description
This product is not American vanilla extract and has a distinctly Mexican vanilla flavor. Danncy vanilla has a unique aroma and features a strong fragrance and rich flavor. The taste is sweet and strong. Great for any recipe.
- From the Label: Does Not Contain Alcohol.
User questions & answers
Question: | Can this be used for baking |
Answer: | Yes. I use it all the time for baking. I prefer it to the regular vanilla. |
Question: | What percentage alcohol |
Answer: | There is no alcohol in this. |
Question: | Dose this clear vanilla have any synthectics or artificial any thing in it |
Answer: | Pure vanilla extract doesn't need a preservative. This is not vanilla extract. By U.S law, vanilla extract must have a minimum of 35% alcohol and only vanilla beans to be labeled as extract. This uses water and flavorings. In addition there is no such thing as vanilla extract that is clear. True vanilla extract is brown, because it takes on the color of the vanilla beans. This should be called "vanilla flavoring". |
Question: | why is there artificial flavor in this "real" vainilla |
Answer: | Because it is not real vanilla extract. It is a flavoring material made with vanillin (crystalline vanilla flavor) and water. The other ingredients are just preservatives. In the USA this would be required to be labeled as 'Artificial Vanilla Flavor". |

User questions & answers
Question: | What percentage alcohol does it contain |
Answer: | I contacted the company and they said it is only 4% alcohol. |
Question: | Does this have the vanilla bean plant in it |
Answer: | No, it does not. I highly doubt it ever has had any real vanilla in it. It is artificially flavored. |
Question: | According to the label, this contains vanillin which is a synthetic. How is this pure vanilla |
Answer: | Vanillin is the primary component of the extract of the vanilla bean. There is also a synthetic vanallin. I am guessing it is the natural one. |
Question: | Is its plastic bottle BPA-free |
Answer: | Hi, PJ - Until you asked, I hadn't looked closely at the bottle. Now that I have, I see that there is no mention of the bottle being BPA free, and, perhaps more importantly, that there is vanillin, an artificial flavoring, added. When I purchased this product I thought I was getting pure vanilla extract. I see now that I was wrong, so, I will no longer be purchasing this product. I hope this helps. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Are there any calories in this product |
Answer: | Not unless the vanillan ingredient has some natural sugar. It would be negligible anyway. Delicious vanilla. |
Question: | Why the corn syrup, bad choice |
Answer: | There is NO CORN SYRUP in Blue Cattle Truck Mexican Vanilla. Prior to 2013 there was corn syrup in the vanilla. There has not been any corn syrup in this product since that time. It is all natural, gluten free, and Kosher Certified (U). It also does not contain any added sugar. |
Question: | Does your extract contain sugar |
Answer: | This is the only vanilla extract I've used since discovered it years ago, I think it has a much richer flavor. The list of ingredients on the bottle are in order as follows: "vanilla bean extractive in purified water, 10 % alcohol, vanillin , corn syrup". Also printed on the bottle is "No additives or preservatives, All natural, Gluten free". Hope this answers your question. |
Question: | How long is the shelf life, or does it have expiration dates |
Answer: | There is no expiration date on my bottles. I will say however, that this is the best Vanilla I have ever used. Smells and tastes sooo much better than name brand store bought vanilla. I've been using this for some time now and I won't go back to the other. It's pure. (No, I don't work for the company hahaha!) |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the difference in the dark vanilla and the clear vanilla |
Answer: | Clear vanilla is synthetic (fake)—always. Some dark vanilla is fake ( clear (fake) vanilla with color added). Some dark vanilla is pure vanilla extract—not fake, synthetic stuff. So, all clear vanilla is fake, but not all fake vanilla is clear. All pure vanilla extract is dark, but there is also synthetic (fake) vanilla that has coloring added to it to make it look real |
Question: | does it contain any alcohol or sugar |
Answer: | These are the ingredients from the side of the bottle: Water, 2% Pure vanilla extract, 1.8% Ethel Alcohol. Propylene Glycol, vanillin, ethyl vanillin, carmel color, and potassium sorbate I hope this helps. I've bought this in Mexico before. It lacks the smokey vanilla flavor and that's why I like it. |
Question: | what quantity equals regular real vanilla in baking |
Answer: | I like to use a bit extra in baking, but generally you can use it the same as regular vanilla. I have found the taste and aroma of this vanilla blend to be very rich and appealing. It is not weaker than regular vanilla, so there is no need to adjust the measurement. |
Question: | Did it used to contain coumarin |
Answer: | No. Some Vanilla Extracts from Mexico formerly were extracted from Tonka Beans which contains this potent anticoagulant. This is now prohibited by Mexican Law. |

Question: | How come your coa (cert. of analysis) does not show all the ratios of ingredients? what is the % of vanilla extract |
Answer: | Hi Matt.Thank you for writing us! Our COA made by Anresco Laboratories consists besides of the coumarin and gluten free detection analysis; of a nutritional, a standard plate count, a coliform and a yeast and mold analysis. In the label you can find listed all of the ingredients in the vanilla extract; the % of vanilla extract is 35% of vanilla beans maceration obtained in alcohol and the percentage of this alcohol is at least 35% as defined by the FDA . If you would like to receive a copy of our complete COA please provide us an e-mail to send you a copy available to all of our clients that request one. Best Regards! Villa Vainilla |
Question: | This looks absolutely wonderful. i understand that it is free of chemicals and it tastes great.. but is it fair trade |

Our label informs the product name, its quantity, the list of ingredients, the nutrition label and the place where the product is manufactured. If there is any other information you would like to know about our product please write us to [email protected] and we will gladly answer all your questions! |
Question: | I bought Villa Vanilla “concentrate” at the Cancun airport, what is the difference between it and the extract and how do you measure |
Answer: | Vanilla extract has more percentage of vanilla bean extractions (therefore is more expensive) than the concentrate; both products are made only with natural vanilla beans. I would recommend using a third or half portion of the extract than what you were using from the concentrate. |
