11 best sardines to eat
Sardines are a type of small, oily fish that are commonly consumed as a food source. They are related to herring and are often found canned or smoked. Here's what you should know about sardines to eat:
Nutritional Value: Sardines are highly nutritious and are considered a superfood due to their rich nutrient content. They are an excellent source of protein, omega-3 fatty acids, calcium, vitamin D, and B vitamins, particularly vitamin B12 and niacin.
Health Benefits: Consuming sardines can provide several health benefits. Omega-3 fatty acids in sardines are known to support heart health, reduce inflammation, and promote brain function. They are also a good source of vitamin D, which is essential for bone health.
Canned Sardines: Canned sardines are widely available and come in various forms, including packed in oil, water, or tomato sauce. They are convenient and have a long shelf life, making them a pantry staple.
Flavor and Texture: Sardines have a distinct flavor that some people describe as slightly fishy and salty. The texture can vary depending on how they are prepared, but they are generally tender and can be eaten whole, including the bones.
Cooking and Serving: Sardines can be eaten in various ways. They can be enjoyed straight from the can, added to salads, sandwiches, or pasta dishes, or even grilled or pan-fried for a crispy texture. They are often served with lemon, garlic, or herbs to enhance their flavor.
Sustainability: Sardines are considered a sustainable seafood choice because they reproduce quickly and are abundant in many parts of the world. Choosing sustainably sourced sardines can help support responsible fishing practices.
Bone Edibility: Sardine bones are small and soft, and they are typically consumed along with the flesh. In fact, they are a good source of calcium. However, if you prefer boneless sardines, you can find boneless varieties in some canned sardine products.
Cultural Significance: Sardines are a popular food in many cultures around the world. They are often featured in Mediterranean cuisine, where they are used in dishes like pasta with sardine sauce or served with bread and olive oil.
Storage: Canned sardines have a long shelf life and can be stored at room temperature. It's advisable to check the expiration date on the can before consumption.
Allergies: Some individuals may be allergic to fish, including sardines, so it's important to be aware of potential allergies and consult with a healthcare professional if needed.
Sardines are not only a flavorful addition to various dishes but also a nutritious choice that can be part of a healthy diet. They offer a range of vitamins and minerals and are particularly valued for their omega-3 fatty acids, which are essential for overall well-being.

User questions & answers
Question: | what are the ingredients |
Answer: | I’ll get to that. Did u realize Amazon doubled the price since Covid Virus? With so many people hungry & poor now...First I’ve heard of them continuing to sell bad or dangerous sardines. Still no customer service...guess it saves them money. |
Question: | Does the nutrition information include consuming the olive oil as well |
Answer: | Honestly gutted doesn't matter here, my May 21,20 order was full of fish scales, fish looked mushy, and smelled bad ! The Best Buy Date was Dec 2024. I tried to post reviews twice with photos, but "they" haven't allowed them to post . Sheesh ! I'm " under the impression" that Season Brand had been around for years, so why has this happened ? I sent a kind and concerned email to the company that someone is trying to ruin their company. No answer yet after 4 days I think it was. To be fair they say they'll answer in 3-5 days. I don't expect one, other recent reviews say they got no answer, only the glowing reviews from 2017 claim they got a swift reply. |
Question: | Can you eat the olive oil that come with it |
Answer: | All these multi-pack are either 4 or 5, this one I think is 5. The way I compare is the $ amount divided by the # of ounces of the pack. Because not every can has the same amount of ounces. |
Question: | Boneless? Spineless |
Answer: | Season brand sardines are usually identified as "BPA-NI," which means that they are not intentionally made with BPA or other bisphenol compounds. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Do these have bone in |
Answer: | Based on the ingredients one would believe so. However they have NOT been certified as Kosher. |
Question: | Why are these more expensive than the 12 packs |
Answer: | This is not in plastic can. |
Question: | Do the sardines have any bones and innards |
Answer: | Water....never soy. If you have to go with an oil, olive is fine. Never soy. Drain the oil either way. The problem with the oil packed is the salt. Always look for a salt free option, your car or dog wouldn't salt its food in the wild, and doesn't require extra salt. If you feed it organ meats, kidneys, liver, and bones (marrow) there is plenty of salts in the diet of your animal. Remember sodium is only ONE essential salt but it must be balanced with other essential salts (or minerals) |
Question: | Can you eat them straight from can |
Answer: | Morocco |

User questions & answers
Question: | Because all seafood caught "in the wild" are inherently GMO-free,what does "Natural" mean (or anything else) to justify the price of these sardines |
Answer: | Mine was a package of three. |
Question: | What is the salt content of a can? Do they have any added salt |
Answer: | It has nothing to do with the mercury in the water. The first commenter from John the backpacker is correct! CA has weird warnings on absolutely EVERYTHING you purchase and I don't care if it's a hairbrush, buttons or pots and pans, you will always see this type of warning: CA Prop. 65 Warning states "this product contains chemicals known to the state of CA to cause cancer & birth defects or other reproductive harm". For those in other states, or countries immediately get scared because they are unfamiliar with the warning and what it means. I'm sure if you get a cup-of-joe at Starbucks, it will have the same warning on it! It certainly does not mean there is anything wrong with the product in question, it's just their generic warning. |
Question: | Are these cana BPA free now? Why are some of the CROWN Prince cans BPA free & some are not?I don't understand. Thanks |
Answer: | Per the label : Ingredients: Low Temperature Dried Dulse |
Question: | The can might be bpa free, but does it contain bps instead? which is just as bad if not worse than bpa |
Answer: | Raw. Can be cook in soup. |

Answer: | (Just curious, is there a Kombu sold anywhere on earth that is a GMO?) |
