13 best jasmine indoor plants

Jasmine indoor plants are popular choices for indoor gardening enthusiasts, known for their fragrant and elegant flowers. These plants belong to the genus Jasminum and are appreciated for their beauty and delightful scent. Here's what you should know about jasmine indoor plants:

  1. Varieties: There are several species and varieties of jasmine plants suitable for indoor cultivation. Common types include Jasminum polyanthum (common jasmine or pink jasmine), Jasminum sambac (Arabian jasmine), and Jasminum officinale (common white jasmine). Each variety may have slightly different characteristics and flower colors.

  2. Fragrance: The hallmark of jasmine plants is their sweet, intoxicating fragrance. The flowers typically release their scent in the evening, making them a popular choice for bedrooms or living spaces where you can enjoy their aroma.

  3. Appearance: Jasmine plants feature attractive green foliage and clusters of small, star-shaped flowers. The flowers can be white, pink, or yellow, depending on the species. The leaves are typically glossy and add to the plant's overall beauty.

  4. Growing Conditions: To thrive indoors, jasmine plants require specific growing conditions. They prefer bright, indirect sunlight, so placing them near a sunny window is ideal. They also need well-draining soil and regular watering, keeping the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Proper humidity levels are essential for their health.

  5. Temperature: Jasmine indoor plants do best in a warm and consistent environment. They can tolerate slightly cooler temperatures during the winter, but it's crucial to protect them from drafts and sudden temperature drops.

  6. Pruning: Pruning is essential to maintain the shape and size of your jasmine plant. Regularly trim back leggy growth and spent flowers to encourage bushier growth and more prolific flowering.

  7. Support: Jasmine plants are vining in nature, and they benefit from some support or trellising. You can train them to climb on stakes or a trellis, which can enhance their aesthetic appeal.

  8. Fertilization: During the growing season (spring and summer), you can feed your jasmine plant with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 2-4 weeks. Reduce fertilization during the fall and winter when growth slows down.

  9. Pests and Diseases: Keep an eye out for common indoor plant pests like aphids, mealybugs, and spider mites. Regularly inspect your jasmine for signs of infestations and address them promptly. Additionally, make sure the plant has good air circulation to prevent issues like powdery mildew.

  10. Blooming Period: Jasmine plants typically bloom during the warmer months, producing their fragrant flowers from late spring through summer. With proper care, some varieties may even bloom sporadically throughout the year.

  11. Containers: When growing jasmine indoors, choose a suitable pot or container with good drainage. Repotting may be necessary as the plant grows to ensure it has enough space for its root system.

Jasmine indoor plants can add a touch of elegance and a wonderful fragrance to your indoor living spaces. With the right care and attention to their specific needs, you can enjoy their beautiful blooms and delightful scent throughout the year.

User questions & answers

Question: Will lthis come back annually if planted outside? If I keep it as a houseplant, will it live longer and flower multiple times/year
Answer: This plant is more shade tolerant than a lot of others. Arabian Jasmine is also shade tolerant along with common jasmine. If you give this plant enough light it will flower. The flowers usually form on the wood from the year before. So all wood that is at least one year old should have the ability to produce flowers. This plant can be a houseplant fairly easily if given the proper light. Amazon does sell 35 watt LED grow lights that should suffice if you keep the plant trimmed and not allow more than 2 feet high and 2 feet wide. I would add more lights if you want it bigger. There are some Jasmine that you will have issues growing inside, but this is not usually one of them. Enjoy your plant.
Question: I received the plant a week ago. i have been keeping it indoors and following the instructions. the leaves are turning yellow. what should i do
Answer: I don't know where you live, but it surely is not snowing in your state yet. Plant the little thing! Goodness, it's an outdoor plant. You AR probably over-watering it inside and it's not getting the sun direct sunlight it needs as an outdoor plant.
Question: I live in zone 5-b. i want to get a hanging pot and hang it in front of a west window (kitchen) will that be a good location? also, what size pot? tha
Answer: Hi, are you planning to hang the plant indoors or outdoors? Since this is a one gallon size pot I would pot up to a 3 gallon. Also, west facing windows is good for this plant or a south facing. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
Question: What will be the height of plant when we get it
Answer: Hi, when you receive your confederate jasmine it will be 1-2ft tall.

User questions & answers

Question: What soil is best
Answer: The Jasmine plant I bought is not doing well. I kept it in the same pot for several weeks and then transferred it to a bigger planter and used the regular potting soil. I fertilized the plant but still not growing much at all. Sorry don't have any suggestions other than just my experience.
Question: picture 4 is different and I'm not looking for that, can someone please confirm what you received
Answer: I received a minuscule pot with a seedling in it. This is atrocious. Clearly clickbait. The picture shows at least 1-2 foot plant with a large pot.
Question: My plant is not growing at all, any ideas? After 3 weeks not even a single new leaves, i did put it in a 6” pot, maybe roots are growing
Answer: Mine was slow to start growing but it now has new growth on it
Question: It lasted just a few weeks on the window sill.then wilted.was watered regularly.how do i keep it growing longer
Answer: Mine has bloomed twice also and is over twice as big now as when I received it. We put it into a bigger pot immediately. Don't over water it. We've moved ours around some. Sometimes it is in the kitchen with natural light. Sometimes it gets put in the "plant area" with artificial light. It has never been in the window if it was too hot outside, we have put it back by the kitchen sink (no really close windows) if it gets too hot in direct sunlight. It still smells really good.

User questions & answers

Question: Will it still bloom in moderate sunlight? I only have west-facing windows in my apartment
Answer: Western exposure is strong sun exposure in the afternoon. It will do good there just as long as it is not right up to the hot window.
Question: will jasmin do well in north texas
Answer: If your plant becomes very well established it can. We have well estblished jasmine that is left uncovered during freezing weather/snow and it does well.
Question: I got my plant 2 days ago. moved it to 9 inch pot. i keep it inside at night. it is still turning brown. how often should i water it? how much
Answer: Keep it in sunlight and water it twice a week only. Too much water can kill he plant.
Question: i live in buffalo ny and its getting cold can keep the plant in a pot in a sunny window all year ling
Answer: Well I think I can help you with this. NY is a dry, cold climate - this plant needs water and sun but not so much as to drown and burn it. I had one in Louisiana that I bought on Amazon because I wanted the smell of home (Coronado, California) and for awhile it grew well, then we were hit with high heat and humidity and my precious plant died. It's a plant for outdoors and takes a year to grow big enough to bloom. When it blooms at night, it's awesome. For indoor, you could grow it as long as you kept it monitored well. When it starts to bloom, it is really fragrant and strong. I would transfer it outside in the warm summer months but out of direct sunlight. Follow the directions and you won't have any problems. If I buy another one, I'll buy the fully grown plant that's ready to bloom, not the small one just starting to sprout. A year is a long time to wait. The plant I bought from Amazon was a great plant and lived a long time. I messed up and it died because I missed a couple of days of watering and moving it. I was very happy with my purchase. Best wishes. Hope this helps.

User questions & answers

Question: Can this be grown indoors as a house plant
Answer: The best thing to do is to mimic the conditions from where the plant is happiest...the south. Since there is a great deal of humidity below the Mason Dixon line I doubt it. However, mine, and i ordered 5 varieties from these folks, are doing fairly well in the house, but they are being acclimated to the outdoors at this point. These ARE vines, you know.
Question: can I grow this indoors
Answer: Yes, in a sunny window with good soil.
Question: How long after I get them can i replant them
Answer: Please repot it after 2 to 3 weeks.
Question: Too bad Amazon doesn't list the seller as most reviews seem to need it; many have mentioned an exceptional seller, but who is it
Answer: 9Greenbox is the seller. Good Luck.
