ZincShield Pure Zinc Strip to Avoid Ugly Roof Stains from Moss, Algae, Fungus, and Mildew, 50 Foot Roll (2.5") - Includes Bag of ZincShield Nails - Made in The USA

Based on 247 reviews Check latest price
  • PURE ZINC STRIPS prevent ugly stains on your roof from algae, moss, lichen, mildew, and fungus
  • AVAILABLE IN 50FT ROLLS and 3 different widths; 2.5", 3.5", and 6" to accommodate all roof shapes and sizes. For best results, use the 2.5” for areas with 20ft or less below the installation area. The 3.5” protects up to 30ft below installation. For anything over 30ft use the 6”. When in doubt, we recommend the 3.5", which will provide more zinc exposure and ions to protect the roof. Purchase includes a bag of ZincShield Nails.
  • PROTECT YOUR ROOF FOR 20+ YEARS with these roof strips. Made with 99.2% Pure Zinc and a trace of Copper for added strength and to ensure proper hardness
  • MADE IN THE USA - Pure zinc strips are made right here in the United States
  • NEVER RUSTS because its made of pure zinc. Works better than galvanized steel roof protectants with zinc coating, which will eventually expose the steel and will cause rust that will stain your roof

User questions & answers

Question: Does this product remove moss that is already on the roof
Answer: ZincShield WILL NOT remove existing moss. Zinc is a natural fungistat meaning that it is an inhibitor to growth. That said Zincshield is used to protect your roof from ugly roof stains and moss. Step 1 is to clean the roof. You can either have it professional cleaned or use our product RoofBeClean. RoofBeClean is a no rinse product however you have to be patient and let the moss disappear over time. That said once you have treated the moss once or twice you can go ahead and install the ZincShield.
Question: If I use the "two tubes of adhesive" instead of nails, how far under the row-above shingle does the zinc strip have to go
Answer: If I am understanding the question correctly, you want to slide about 1/4 inch under the roof ridge vent, ridge cap, or the top row of shingles. Apply quarter to half-dollar size spots of adhesive approximately every 12 inches pressing the zinc strip down flat to the roof as you move along. Do not apply a continuous bead of adhesive as it will block the flow of water.
Question: Will it keep moss and algae off a concrete patio if I attach it to the deck over the patio
Answer: In order for ZincShield to be effective water must flow over the Zinc which creates electrolysis. As the water picks up the zinc ions it spreads them down the roof. So in order for it to be effective for your situation the water must be able to flow over the concrete patio. You can use our LiquidZinc product and spray the concrete patio once a year and this should be effective to keep moss from returning for 12 months. That being said you will need to cautious when spraying if you have plants and or grass around your patio. I would wet everything down around the patio, then spray the LiquidZinc and then hose down again around the vegetation.
Question: Does this withstand heat? Do you know how much (what temp) this can withstand
Answer: Can you elaborate on how much heat? ZincShield, being a metal can withstand high and low temps. You have to be conscious of how much heating and cooling is happen because zinc can expand and contract up to 3/4 of an inch for every 30 feet. With that being said if you have extreme temps then cut the roll into 8 to 10 ft sections. Let me know if this helps.

Product features

ZincShield Pure Zinc Strip

ZincShield is a 99.2% pure zinc strip, comes in 50-foot rolls, and is available in 2.5", 3.5", and 6.0" widths. ZincShield is installed at the top of the roof (below the roof ridge vent, roof cap or below the first row of shingles) and below any obstruction such as chimneys, skylights, dormers, etc. that block the natural flow of rain water down the roof.

Our specifically-designed ZincShield Nails (included) are of the highest quality and have EPDM rubber washers that seal nail holes. These nails are designed to be rust free for the life of your roof.

*DUE TO THE HEIGHTS AND/OR STEEP PITCH OF MANY ROOFS, WE RECOMMEND THAT YOU HAVE A PROFESSIONAL ROOFER OR CONTRACTOR INSTALL YOUR ZINCSHIELD.

INSTALLATION INFORMATION

ZincShield is installed at the top of the roof below the ridge cap, ridge vent or below the first row of shingles. If the roof has multiple ridges, install at the top of each ridge. It should normally be installed on both sides of each roof ridge.

ZincShield should be also be installed below any obstruction that interferes with or blocks the normal flow of rainwater down the roof. This includes chimneys, dormers, skylights, etc.

FOR NEW AND OLD ROOFS

New Roofs - New roof applications are great since no stain causing organisms have had a chance to get a foothold on the roof – start right away protecting your investment with ZincShield and keep it that way.

Old Roofs - The same is true for old roofs with no existing stains - install ZincShield as soon as possible before stains start showing up. If you have had your roof power washed, install ZincShield right away because you don't want to have the roof cleaned again due to the damage such cleaning causes (as well as the high cost of cleaning).

ZINCSHIELD IS SOLID ZINC THROUGHOUT

Some roof protection products being sold are made of galvanized steel. Galvanized steel is steel that is only coated in a thin layer of zinc and it will provide protection against roof stains. However, as this coating of zinc dissipates, the steel is exposed to air allowing rust to form.

Since ZincShield is solid zinc, it can never rust and it will keep on protecting your roof for 20-years or more.

User questions & answers

Question: Would anyone happen to know why it turned my tank water green? Our tank is outside, could that be why
Answer: You need more plants to control algae. I live in Texas. I have a 100 gallon galvanized steel tank crystal clear water all year. Blue dye will help control algae and keep birds etc from eating your fish. Hornswart is one of the best plants for your fish and algae issues. I have several moss balls in my tank of various ages and sizes. Fish seem to like them. Do not use any fertilizer for your plants or you will get pea soup green water. Algae will bloom like crazy. Filters like a sponge filter is great. Keeps the water moving oxygen air for fish. I have a pond de icer for winter. I use the dirty mucky fish water to water my plants and yard. You need to do a water change every month. If you use potting soil ,get the dollar store stuff and cat litter. Line the container so no soil leeches out or use a fabric container top soil with rinsed kitty litter and rocks. The more moss balls you have the better the water quality for the fish.
Question: How often do I change the moss
Answer: I change ours every two weeks for our turtle
Question: Can I put forrest moss in a baby turtle tank
Answer: I've had them in my turtle tanks over 20 years... NEVER had a problem..
Question: Can i put them in with my African dwarf frog? He's 7 years old and I am very particular with him
Answer: These do not have charcoal in them, they are moss.

User questions & answers

Question: Prophylactic? moss returns every year to the shady part of my lawn. it is now fall. i don't see any moss. could i spread granules now to prevent moss
Answer: I believe it would be a waste of "Moss Out" material.Wait until you see it creeping forward and then use the spray.I do that and then use the granules in the early spring through summer. You need to be aggressive but too much is a waste.
Question: Can you use moss killer in winter months
Answer: I recently tested that question.Had several perfect outside work days with fair temps....45-55 deg.I used the concentrate to edge kill then broadcast LM granules.Definitely have progress with the moss control. It had been fairly dry recently here in NC so that may have helped.
Question: When is the best time to apply moss max? Does rain effect when to apply, and morning or when
Answer: The moss needs visiable moisture on it and it doesn’t matter when it is applied. Works great!
Question: Will this work in mulch beds
Answer: Do you have Moss? I had put down mulch in one of my places and it worked.

User questions & answers

Question: can this be applied to new grass
Answer: Once you have applied this product to the moss wait until the moss is thoroughly dead before applying seed. Rake dead moss from the area and apply new seed with straw to keep moist.
Question: after applying how long must I wait to reseed
Answer: I have always waited for the moss to turn brown, rake it in order to totally remove it from the lawn, then reseed after adding some soil to level the ground.
Question: Can I seed the lawn after applying moss control
Answer: Not directly afterwards a waiting period of a month- is recommended - due to the caustic nature of the moss control.
Question: Do I still have to remove the dead moss manually or will it disappear
Answer: I have applied it every 3-4 weeks through the Spring/Summer and the moss is gone. I am certain I will have to apply it 2-3 per year to keep it from returning. I did not remove the dead moss. I also apply fertilizer regularly to keep the grass thick and healthy, crowding out the moss.
