13 best italian coffees

Italian coffee is renowned worldwide for its rich and diverse coffee culture. Italy has a long history of coffee consumption, and Italian coffee is often associated with high-quality espresso and a variety of coffee-based beverages. Here are some key aspects of Italian coffee:

  1. Espresso: Espresso is at the heart of Italian coffee culture. It is a concentrated coffee brewed by forcing hot water through finely-ground coffee beans. Italians take their espresso seriously and often drink it at cafes (known as "bars" in Italy) standing at the counter. A well-made Italian espresso is known for its strong, bold flavor and crema, a creamy foam on top.

  2. Coffee Blends: Italian coffee blends typically consist of a combination of Arabica and Robusta coffee beans. The specific blend ratios can vary, but Robusta beans are often included to add depth and crema to the espresso.

  3. Espresso-Based Drinks: Italy is famous for its espresso-based drinks, including:

    • Cappuccino: A combination of espresso, steamed milk, and milk foam, typically enjoyed in the morning.
    • Caffè Latte: Similar to a cappuccino but with more steamed milk and less foam.
    • Macchiato: Espresso "stained" or "marked" with a small amount of milk or foam.
    • Ristretto: An even more concentrated version of espresso, using less water to extract the coffee.
  4. Moka Pot: The Moka pot, also known as a stovetop espresso maker, is a popular household coffee brewing method in Italy. It brews a strong coffee that is similar in taste to espresso but is less concentrated.

  5. Coffee Brands: Italy is home to several renowned coffee brands, including Lavazza, Illy, Segafredo, and Kimbo. These brands are known for their high-quality coffee beans and blends.

  6. Coffee Culture: Coffee in Italy is not just about the beverage; it's a social and cultural experience.Italians often take short coffee breaks throughout the day to enjoy a quick espresso and chat with friends or colleagues.

  7. Coffee Rituals: Italians have specific rituals associated with coffee, such as avoiding cappuccinos after breakfast, sipping espresso slowly, and not ordering "to-go" coffee.

  8. Pastries: Coffee is often enjoyed with pastries and sweets, such as biscotti, sfogliatelle, or cornetti (similar to croissants).

  9. Coffee Terminology: In Italian coffee culture, there are specific terms for ordering coffee. For example, "caffè" refers to a regular espresso, while "ristretto" is a shorter and stronger version.

  10. Coffee Art: Latte art, where baristas create intricate designs in the milk foam of coffee drinks, is not as common in Italy as in some other countries. Italians tend to focus more on the quality of the espresso itself.

Italian coffee culture places a strong emphasis on the quality and preparation of coffee, making it a significant part of daily life in Italy and influencing coffee cultures worldwide.

User questions & answers

Question: Nutritional information? Cant find info anywhere
Answer: Thank you for the question! These pods contain only 100% coffee ground, that's why there is no nutritional provided
Question: Can you rate the flavors from dark to light? Or explain the differences from one to another so we can know what we are choosing
Answer: They are ALL espresso and therefore the flavors will be rich and dark flavored. I prefer the Cremosa and Ristretto espresso pods. There fine nuances between them but both are wonderful. These pods work great in my Starbucks Versimo machine and at a fraction of the cost! Enjoy
Question: Am I correct that you need to use the Espresso button for the Brasil pods vs. using the coffee button
Answer: Thank you for the question! That is correct, please use the Espresso button with Brazil pods
Question: Do these work with cbtl machines
Answer: They will only work if they have a filter embedded in the pod. Do these have the same filter as CBTL pods?

User questions & answers

Question: Is the container recyclable
Answer: Thank you for your question. The container is recyclable. You may be able to recycle them as part of your town, or city recycling program. If you have any other questions, please call our Customer Care representatives at 877 455-9347 and they will be more than happy to assist you.
Question: How long does this coffee stay fresh in the can? I am the only coffee drinker, probably 1-2 espresso cups in a day
Answer: The can is airtight, so I would guess quite some time, we go through it pretty quickly but freshness has never been a problem.
Question: How many teaspoons (or grams) of this coffee do you use in the moka pot per 2 oz espresso cup? i have the bialetti 3 cup moka pot
Answer: I have the 6 cup moka pot and use about 6 slightly heaping teaspoons of the illy coffee. I would imagine that yours would require about 1/2 that - about 3 heaping teaspoons. I will say that I have been recently using LaVazza espresso in my moka and I find it to have a slightly stronger flavor, but is equally as smooth as the illy moka roast - and it is about $5 USD per can.
Question: What's the difference between this product and the regular Illy? Is it just relatively coarse? Same bean otherwise
Answer: Don't know about "regular" illy but this Moka ground coffee is finely ground and specifically for top-of-stove Moka pot where the boiling water pushes up through the finely-ground coffee and into the upper chamber. The can even has a picture of the Moka stove top pot on front of can. I think illy also makes an even finer grind specifically for expresso machines. I can really just speak to my experience with the Moka product.

User questions & answers

Question: are these returnable if I don't like them
Answer: These taste like ashtray and the pods don't puncture properly. I tried to return. They are not returnable. I have prime. This is ridiculous. Only reason I bought because I thought there was no risk. WRONG.
Question: By each flavor which option on my machine do I use? Ristretto(small) expresso(medium) lungi (large
Answer: I only have 2 buttons on my Innisia, expresso and lungo. I use the lungo and a smidgen of condensed milk or whatever as the flavor is quite strong. Most of the Nesspresso brand capsules don't need anything, but for the price of these, I can flavor to taste easily.
Question: What is the difference between magia and passione blends
Answer: Magia is a blend roasted the Neapolitan way for a short, full and rich body, while Passione is a made of Arabicas from Latin America and Robustas from Africa. They're both medium/strong (for my personal taste I prefer Magia =) )
Question: Is it possible to order a variety of pods instead of 100 of the same flavor
Answer: seller: should definitely offer: 1) a 'Sampler Pack' - of all flavors in a smaller quantity to find out one's own personal preference (100 capsules of an unknown 'personal preference / flavor' item is unreasonable), &; 2) a Variety Pack - for those who want a variety of flavours - but not 300 capsules ...

User questions & answers

Question: Is this similar to starbucks? I am not a fan of starbucks and looking for a quality coffee that isn't as similar
Answer: I am not a fan of starbucks and I love all of the blends/roasts offered by koffee kult (I have had them all and made them all in a pot, press, and pour over). I've only ever liked one brand more, and that brand went out of business a couple years ago so koffee kult has been my go to for a couple years now. By the way the dark roasts have a very rich chocolatey flavor, but are not overly sour or bitter which makes dark and thunderbolt my favorites.
Question: i use a 12 cup coffee machine. How many tablespoons of ground coffee grinds should I put in per cup
Answer: 1 TBS per cup is enough but if you like your coffee to be bold (like I do) put an extra 1-2 TBS's in if you are making an entire pot.
Question: Here's a question… How is the taste
Answer: Check out RECENT Negative Reviews - Like others, I found it sour & undrinkable - one of the worse coffees I have ever tasted -
Question: Has anyone used this with an Aeropress
Answer: I use this coffee in an AeroPress virtually every day. Yummy yummy yummy. - and I am not affiliated with AeroPress or Aerobie in any way.

User questions & answers

Question: what is the "best before" date on bottoms of cans
Answer: The product description that Amazon puts online does not (but should) tell you what the Production Date and Expiration Date is on the bottom of the cans that are for sale. I bought 6 cans in June 2020 that don't expire until 2022, but then in August 2020 I bought another 6 cans (that cost about $8.00 more) that will expire before the end of 2020 !! Furthermore, Lavazza changed its can design. The photo posted is of the new can (gold medallion), but what I got was the old can (red medallion) that expires December 30, 2020. Luckily, unopened coffee should still be pretty good after the expiration date, right?
Question: Can this be used in an electric based espresso machine
Answer: I've been using this with my breville expresso machine but each can does not have consistent grind so you have to adapt the amount (more or less) to get the right pressure still using it tho
Question: Relative to other 100% pure arabica coffee , does it has a high caffeine concentration
Answer: I am not sure about other 100% pure arabica coffee but I looked on the Lavazza website and it states that it's caffeine level is about 1.4%. You can try to compare that to other brands. Hope that helps.
Question: Can I use it with a "moka" coffee machine (like Bialetti
Answer: You can, but your results may be a little splashy. I would recommend that you use Illy instead. Illy offers purpose grind coffees and roast specifically for your needs. I have used Lavazza and I do not see that it measures up to Illy....at least for a drip coffee machine. I do not want to sound like an Illy representative, however, I find that product to be superior to Lavazza, unless of course you don't mind spending $100.00 dollars a pound for Isle St. Helena coffee (magnificent).

User questions & answers

Question: are these beans "oily"? thanks
Answer: hi. the beans are not oily at all. they are perfectly roasted. oily is a misconception that oily is the freshest bean, but it can be quite the opposite. depending on what type of machine you have the Lavazza beans are the best. We have a Gaggia Titanium and all other beans get stuck/clogged. hope this helps.
Question: Would this coffee be good to use in a regular drip coffeemaker, or is an espresso maker required? Thank you
Answer: It will make a smooth, flavorable cup of regular coffee. Just grind the beans for a drip coffee machine. The Super Crema Espresso Beans are an Italian roast (medium) rather than a dark roast that is sometimes bitter. Some mornings when time is tight, I make a pot of regular coffee and steam milk for cafe au lait.
Question: How many servings are in this bag
Answer: It all depend on how you use it. I use 19 grams of beans to pull a 36 gram 28 second espresso shot (I use a non-pressurized filter). 2.2 lbs = 1000 grams, thus, I get about 52 cappuccinos. I probably average about 2.5 per day, therefore, each bag lasts me about 3 weeks. With a pressurized filter, the standard is 7 grams per shot, therefore, 140 shots. Using my chemex I will use 10 grams per cup, therefore I get 100 cups. Many people use 7 grams per cup, so they will get 140 cups. Hope this helps. (btw, this comes to about 45 cents per cappuccino, with milk it comes to 60 cents each, at 2.5 per day I spend $1.50 for what would cost me $10 per day at Starbucks (the McDonald's of coffee).
Question: What is the difference going from Super Crema to Gran Crema
Answer: Both are medium roasts. However, the Gran Crema is 40% South America arabica and 60% Southeast Asia robusta beans, where Super Crema is 60% Southeast Asia robusta beans and and 40% South American arabica beans, so the Super Crema is going to be more delicate with brighter tones (more fruity) while the Gran Crema is going to have deeper and richer tones, more chocolate-y and nutty. For those who say that these beans are bitter, they--or their machine--may be overextracting the beans. If grinding your own, may want to try a coarser grind to make less bitter. If sour, may want to try grinding finer. Can be a little difficult to distinguish the two, so may want to do some research online for how to differentiate. Regarding the flavor of creama (not this product, but generally speaking), creama usually does not taste very good. What crema does help do is allow one to identify how well their extraction went.

Question: How many cups of coffee (say 9 oz. cup) does one brick make
Answer: For a single shot espresso you need to use ~ 7 g of coffee, 9 oz = 250 gr hence you should be able to get approximately 35 espresso shots.
Question: Is this coffee made with 100% Arabica beans? If not, what is the blend
Answer: 70/30 robusta/arabica blend.
Question: I have been using Starbucks espresso roast for about 12 years for my daily coffee, does this compare
Answer: Oh yes! By far superior!! I’ve tilried this one and Espresso Cafe and both blew me away!! If someone thinks this is gross coffee I’d say maybe they didn’t use the proper amount of beans or they didn’t grind it right. This coffee makes Other coffees in the espresso shops taste like dirty water. It sounds like we are coffee snobs, maybe we are? But if I’m going to drink coffee I’d like to drink the best. If you want a great steak you buy the best cut your budget can afford, right? This offer is far less expensive also.

User questions & answers

Question: Is there a sour taste to the arabica? I ordered Cremoso before and it did not have this taste, but the Arabica has a sharp sour taste to it
Answer: I love the Cremoso, very smooth and rich. A darker roast might have a slight bitterness to some taste buds. But some folks like the extra kick. I like to change 'em up sometimes for variety, but I always come back to Cremoso, my personal fave.
Question: These were not compatible with my rivo lavazza why
Answer: They are made specifically for the Keurig Rivo machine which was created by Lavazza and Keurig. It is the only machine they will work in.
Question: Is this compatible with the verismo machine
Answer: Thank you for the question, NO these pods are only compatible with Rivo machines. We do have pods compatible with Verismo, you can see them here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07N36T1D1?ref=myi_title_dp&th=1
Question: Can anyone tell me the difference between the Ristretto and the Arabica? Thanks
Answer: "Arabica" is a lighter blend, made of 100% Arabica beans from Brazil and Colombia. "Ristretto" is the strongest blend, a blend of 100% Washed Robusta beans from Africa, roasted the Neapolitan way, very dark.

Product features

NAPOLI

This rich blend has been especially designed by Signor Mauro, the head of the Pelliconi family and the original founder of the roastery. Signor Mauro likes a full-bodied coffee with an intense toasted flavour.

ROMA

This slow hand roasted blend has been crafted by Dario of the Pelliconi family. This gourmet coffee has a hint of hazelnut, a full body and an intense colour. It gives a dense flavour while at the same time releases a sharpness, so that taste and fragrance persist. You will be transported to a Roman piazza and immerse yourself in living "La Dolce Vita".

VENEZIA

This blend has a fragrant aroma and delightful tones of honey. It has been perfected by Lisa, the daughter of the Pelliconi family. Lisa likes a light coffee with a "green" and berry-like taste. The beauty of Venice and the sweets of an Italian 'Pasticcerias' were the inspiration behind this slow hand roasted coffee.

FIRENZE

This decaffeinated blend was refined by Signora Margherita, the "mamma" and true pillar behind our family business. Without compromising on flavour, the well-rounded aroma of this coffee offers a caffeine free Italian experience that can be enjoyed any time of the day. It will take you to a terrazza overlooking the medieval skyline of Florence, as the sun sets behind its historical rooftops and chapels.
