11 best coffee whole beans

Whole coffee beans are the primary starting point for making a cup of coffee. These beans, often referred to as coffee beans, are the seeds of the Coffea plant. Here is what you need to know about coffee whole beans:

  1. Types of Coffee Beans:

    • There are four main types of coffee beans: Arabica, Robusta, Liberica, and Excelsa. Arabica and Robusta are the most commonly grown and consumed varieties.
  2. Roasting Process:

    • Coffee beans are typically green when harvested and need to be roasted before they can be brewed. The roasting process is critical in determining the flavor and aroma of the coffee. It can range from light to dark roast, each offering different taste profiles.
  3. Flavor Profiles:

    • Different coffee beans from various regions have distinct flavor profiles. For instance, Ethiopian beans often have a fruity and floral flavor, while beans from Central America tend to be more balanced with nutty and chocolate notes.
  4. Grind Size:

    • The grind size of coffee beans is crucial, as it affects the brewing method. Whole beans need to be ground to the appropriate size for your chosen brewing method, such as coarse for French press or fine for espresso.
  5. Freshness:

    • Coffee beans are at their best when consumed shortly after roasting. After roasting, coffee beans release carbon dioxide, and some recommend allowing the beans to rest for a few days before brewing for optimal flavor.
  6. Storage:

    • To maintain freshness, coffee beans should be stored in an airtight container away from light, heat, and moisture. Avoid keeping them in the refrigerator or freezer, as they can absorb odors and moisture.
  7. Sourcing and Ethical Concerns:

    • Many coffee producers and consumers are concerned about ethical and sustainable sourcing. Fair trade and direct trade practices aim to ensure that coffee farmers receive fair compensation for their products and work under decent conditions.
  8. Variety and Blends:

    • Coffee beans can be found as single-origin or in blends. Single-origin beans come from a specific region, while blends combine beans from various origins to achieve a specific taste profile.
  9. Grinding Fresh:

    • To maximize flavor, it's best to grind coffee beans just before brewing. This preserves the volatile oils and aromatics that contribute to the taste and aroma of the coffee.
  10. Brewing Methods:

    • The choice of brewing method, like drip coffee, French press, espresso, or pour-over, can greatly influence the flavor of your coffee. Different methods require different grind sizes and techniques.

In summary, coffee whole beans are the foundation of a good cup of coffee. They come in various types, roasts, and flavors, and the way you handle them – from storage to brewing – significantly impacts the quality of your coffee. Experimenting with different beans and brewing methods can lead to a customized coffee experience tailored to your preferences.

User questions & answers

Question: are these beans "oily"? thanks
Answer: hi. the beans are not oily at all. they are perfectly roasted. oily is a misconception that oily is the freshest bean, but it can be quite the opposite. depending on what type of machine you have the Lavazza beans are the best. We have a Gaggia Titanium and all other beans get stuck/clogged. hope this helps.
Question: Would this coffee be good to use in a regular drip coffeemaker, or is an espresso maker required? Thank you
Answer: It will make a smooth, flavorable cup of regular coffee. Just grind the beans for a drip coffee machine. The Super Crema Espresso Beans are an Italian roast (medium) rather than a dark roast that is sometimes bitter. Some mornings when time is tight, I make a pot of regular coffee and steam milk for cafe au lait.
Question: How many servings are in this bag
Answer: It all depend on how you use it. I use 19 grams of beans to pull a 36 gram 28 second espresso shot (I use a non-pressurized filter). 2.2 lbs = 1000 grams, thus, I get about 52 cappuccinos. I probably average about 2.5 per day, therefore, each bag lasts me about 3 weeks. With a pressurized filter, the standard is 7 grams per shot, therefore, 140 shots. Using my chemex I will use 10 grams per cup, therefore I get 100 cups. Many people use 7 grams per cup, so they will get 140 cups. Hope this helps. (btw, this comes to about 45 cents per cappuccino, with milk it comes to 60 cents each, at 2.5 per day I spend $1.50 for what would cost me $10 per day at Starbucks (the McDonald's of coffee).
Question: What is the difference going from Super Crema to Gran Crema
Answer: Both are medium roasts. However, the Gran Crema is 40% South America arabica and 60% Southeast Asia robusta beans, where Super Crema is 60% Southeast Asia robusta beans and and 40% South American arabica beans, so the Super Crema is going to be more delicate with brighter tones (more fruity) while the Gran Crema is going to have deeper and richer tones, more chocolate-y and nutty. For those who say that these beans are bitter, they--or their machine--may be overextracting the beans. If grinding your own, may want to try a coarser grind to make less bitter. If sour, may want to try grinding finer. Can be a little difficult to distinguish the two, so may want to do some research online for how to differentiate. Regarding the flavor of creama (not this product, but generally speaking), creama usually does not taste very good. What crema does help do is allow one to identify how well their extraction went.

User questions & answers

Question: How do I exchange coffee I just received. The Eight O'Clock Hazelnut Whole Bean was ordered and I received ground
Answer: Aloe Vera Gel & Juice does not contain latex.
Question: Is this a coffee bean or an espresso bean
Answer: Not according to the ingredients list on the label.
Question: Anyone know if this is good for super automatic espresso machines? I am wondering if these beans are oily
Answer: I am not the manufacturer, but I'm going to offer the possible explanation that it's Chemistry jargon and it means that the extracted aloe juice presents 99% purity.
Question: Are the bags resealable? like ziplock
Answer: We did that with the straight aloe gel and its consistency was very good, but this product is juice and gel and is more of a viscous liquid. I’d say that it is too fluid to work well as a sanitizer carrier.

Cafe Cubano Roast– Our Signature Blend

Cafe Cubano Roast is our signature blend. Made with premium, specialty grade coffee, we use our signature Latin style slow-roasting process to provide a distinctly bold cup, with a sweet flavor, and smooth finish. As a child in Nicaragua, Martin Mayorga spent time at cigar factories with his father interacting with Cuban cigar makers who had fled Castro's government. He recalled the men playing dominos, talking about their plight upon leaving their home country, and drinking a distinctly dark and syrupy coffee. Later on when the Mayorga family moved to the U.S., Martin was able to appreciate first hand this rich coffee while spending time with Cuban immigrants in Miami.

The Perfect Cafe Cubano Roast Preparation:

Sourcing Principles

We build direct, long-term relationships with small farmers and cooperatives that focus on organic, shade-grown, high-quality, specialty coffees.

Our efficient, forward-thinking direct supply chain allows us to support our farmers via access to better financing, cost management, and crop diversification. This ensures you’re getting flavorful, smooth coffee, while paying what is fair to you. It also ensures that farmers are treated equitably and are paid fairly, rewarding them for their hard work.

Our Purpose

We don’t just source and sell artisanal organic products. We exist and operate with the purpose of eliminating systemic poverty in Latin America through the responsible trade of artisanal organic foods.

We have dedicated our lives to creating a sustainable business model that puts farmers first as we believe that healthy farming communities will produce better quality products that ultimately will benefit our valued customers.

Roasting

In a world of mass automation, we roast all of our coffees manually, batch by batch, using our senses and math to guide us in craft roasting great quality coffee.

We roast on batch roasters at our facilities in Rockville, MD and Miami, FL, both of which are FDA inspected and SQF certified. We focus on roasting using our signature Latin, slow-roasting process that provides our customers the smoothest, most flavorful coffees--always roasting fresh every day.

Our Origins

Mayorga was founded over 23 years ago by Martin Mayorga with the purpose of supporting small producers in Latin America, where he was born and raised.

The company has grown tremendously based on its model of equality, efficiency, and quality. The success of the brand has fueled the company's reach to work with high-quality, organic, specialty grade coffees representing over 3,500 small producers throughout Latin America.

User questions & answers

Question: Can I use this in a pour over
Answer: Good afternoon Patrice, thanks for reaching out! Yes, you can use this coffee in a pour over. Here is the usage we recommend: 4 tbsp (22 grams) of medium grind coffee for every 12 oz of filtered water. Keep in mind that since these are whole coffee beans, you will need to grind the coffee prior to brewing. Please let us know if we can help further as we're happy to reply. Have a wonderful day!Your friends at Real Good Coffee Company
Question: Would this be a good choice to use when making chocolate covered espresso beans
Answer: Hi Peter, thanks for reaching out! We would recommend the Breakfast Blend light roast. Since this coffee is lighter, it has more density, and that should help the beans hold up better when you process them. From a taste perspective, the lighter coffee will be slightly more acidic, making the coffee taste come through the chocolate better. Good luck and please let us know how they turn out! Your friends at Real Good Coffee Company
Question: Using lots of kicking horse 3 sisters past 2 years, looking for something better. how does this compare in taste

User questions & answers

Question: Are these beans dyed to appear a darker brown? If so what is used? Thank you
Answer: No, not dyed. The darker brown refers to the amount of time a coffee bean is heat roasted. The longer beans are roasted the darker brown the are. Dark roasts or French roast or espresso beans are the darkest. They are very flavor forward, some people feel they taste almost burnt or "too strong". Light roast beans are roasted for the shortest time and some feel don't have enough flavor. A medium roast AKA Viennese roast are a good all purpose roast. They have character and can be brewed a variety of ways, pour over, percolated, or dripped. However, you like your coffee, enjoy.
Question: is the bean oily
Answer: Not much. if you want the best flavor from your coffee you should order ONLY THE WHOLE BEAN and grind just before you brew. the little Krups one I've had for many years works fine for me.
Question: Not sure how to store the beans. I have heard; freeze, refrigerate, don't refrigerate. What do the experts suggest
Answer: We recommend an airtight canister in a cabinet or on the counter, never in the fridge or the freezer. If you Google it, you will find chemists and molecular biologists arguing about which is the best method, but we've just tested it ourselves over several years and have determined that the coffee tastes better longer if you don't refrigerate or freeze it. Because we roast to order and customers often receive the coffee while it is still developing (oil rising to the surface of the bean, the freezer will stop that process and dry the coffee out, and the refrigerator has a lot of moisture, and that is not good for coffee. Occasionally we will get a complaint about coffee quality, and after we determine it is not a problem with grind/preparation, we ask how the coffee has been stored, and often it has been in the refrigerator. We're not snobs, and if the coffee tastes great to you, that's all we care about. Our bags for personal use are sitting out on the counter or in a cabinet, rolled down at the top and secured with the tin tie, and that works just fine for us. Hope this helps!Darron "Don Pablo" Burke
Question: Is this coffee good for French pressing
Answer: Hi Paul, thanks for reaching out. Many people enjoy this coffee in a French Press. The key is not to pour water on the grounds while it is still boiling. Bring the water to a boil, but then let it sit for a while until it reaches around 185 - 190 degrees, then pour it in. Otherwise you will scald the coffee and rob it of its flavor. It's important to get the grind right also, and for best results, you want a grind fine enough to get some flavor from the coffee, but coarse enough so the coffee does not pass through the screen. I personally prefer the hand drip method (pour over), as it gets more flavor out of the coffee without imparting the flavor of spent grounds (at least that's how I perceive it). Hope this helps. 2 LB Don Pablo Signature Blend - Whole Bean Coffee

Blended for taste, each of these coffees, Colombia, Guatemala, and Brazil, have distinct body characters making the coffee more complex in the cup than a single origin varietal. The taste is sweet and well integrated and the body medium to full. The finish is cocoa-toned and very smooth with low acidity.

The slight caramelization of the natural sugars in the bean give this Medium-Dark coffee a touch of roastiness, while it still retains its natural flavor character, giving it a sweet, pleasant aftertaste. 100% Arabica Whole Bean Coffee, GMO Free. Comes in a handy resealable bag!

*Signature Blend Specialty Coffee is available in 2 or 5 LB bags, and also Single Serve Cups!

How to brew the perfect cup of coffee:

Traditional Drip Machine: Add one level to slightly rounded measuring tablespoon (10g) of finely ground coffee (fine granular sand, not yet a powder) to each six ounce cup of water (177 ml)

Hand Drip Method: Add 8-10 grams of medium-fine ground coffee per cup. Heat water to 190-195 degrees, (88-90.5 c) pre-soak grounds, slowly add water in a clockwise motion. Adjust to taste.

French Press: Add 1-2 measuring tablespoons (10-20g) of coarse ground coffee per cup (177ml) of water and adjust to taste. Never add boiling water.

Cold Brew: Steep equal amounts of coarse ground coffee and filtered water in a covered container for 12-24 hours, strain coffee out and use cheesecloth or a paper coffee filter to remove leftover grounds. Add water to taste.

User questions & answers

Question: Is this similar to starbucks? I am not a fan of starbucks and looking for a quality coffee that isn't as similar
Answer: I am not a fan of starbucks and I love all of the blends/roasts offered by koffee kult (I have had them all and made them all in a pot, press, and pour over). I've only ever liked one brand more, and that brand went out of business a couple years ago so koffee kult has been my go to for a couple years now. By the way the dark roasts have a very rich chocolatey flavor, but are not overly sour or bitter which makes dark and thunderbolt my favorites.
Question: i use a 12 cup coffee machine. How many tablespoons of ground coffee grinds should I put in per cup
Answer: 1 TBS per cup is enough but if you like your coffee to be bold (like I do) put an extra 1-2 TBS's in if you are making an entire pot.
Question: Here's a question… How is the taste
Answer: Check out RECENT Negative Reviews - Like others, I found it sour & undrinkable - one of the worse coffees I have ever tasted -
Question: Has anyone used this with an Aeropress
Answer: I use this coffee in an AeroPress virtually every day. Yummy yummy yummy. - and I am not affiliated with AeroPress or Aerobie in any way.
