12 best thai teas

Thai tea is a popular and flavorful beverage originating from Thailand. It is known for its distinctive taste, vibrant orange color, and sweet, creamy characteristics.Thai tea can be enjoyed in various forms, and it's often served both hot and cold. Here are some key points about Thai tea:

  1. Ingredients: Thai tea is typically made from strongly brewed Ceylon tea leaves, which are native to Sri Lanka. The tea leaves are mixed with various spices and ingredients, including star anise, tamarind, cardamom, and sometimes orange blossom water. The use of condensed milk or evaporated milk adds creaminess and sweetness to the tea.

  2. Flavor Profile: Thai tea has a unique and complex flavor profile. It's sweet, creamy, and often has a hint of spiciness from the added spices. The flavor is well-balanced between the richness of the milk and the depth of the brewed tea.

  3. Color: One of the most distinctive features of Thai tea is its vibrant orange color. This striking hue is achieved by adding food coloring, typically natural annatto, which gives the tea its signature appearance.

  4. Preparation: Thai tea can be prepared in various ways. It is often brewed as a strong concentrate, then mixed with sweetened condensed milk or evaporated milk. The tea can be served hot or iced, depending on personal preference and the weather.

  5. Iced Thai Tea: Iced Thai tea is a popular choice, especially in warmer climates. It involves brewing a strong batch of Thai tea, sweetening it with sugar, and then cooling it down with ice. It's usually served in a glass and can be garnished with a slice of orange or a sprig of mint.

  6. Thai Tea Mix: To simplify the preparation process, many people use pre-packaged Thai tea mixes, which combine tea leaves and spices. These mixes are readily available and can be used to make Thai tea at home.

  7. Popular Thai Tea Variations: Thai tea can also be customized to suit individual tastes. For example, some people prefer it less sweet, while others may enjoy it with a stronger tea flavor. Additionally, bubble tea shops often offer Thai tea with toppings like tapioca pearls or jelly.

  8. Cultural Significance: Thai tea is not only a popular beverage but also holds cultural significance in Thailand. It's commonly served in Thai restaurants and is a part of Thai street food culture.

  9. Health Considerations: Thai tea is relatively high in sugar due to the sweetened condensed milk or evaporated milk used. As such, it's a treat that should be consumed in moderation, especially for those mindful of their sugar intake.

In summary, Thai tea is a beloved beverage known for its sweet, creamy, and spiced flavor, as well as its vibrant orange color. It can be enjoyed hot or iced and is often associated with Thai cuisine and culture. Thai tea mixes and variations are widely available, allowing enthusiasts to enjoy this delicious drink at home or in restaurants.

User questions & answers

Question: What is the caffeine percentage in this
Answer: It contains chemical fake vanilla flavoring with several dyes mixed into the loose tea. This is standard of traditional Thai Tea producing the famous orange color once milk is added. Traditionally, Thai Tea has star anise and cinnamon spices in the mix, as well
Question: How much tea can 1 bag brew
Answer: From their website they recommend this recipe for Thai Tea:Thai Tea 2 TablespoonHot Water ¾ CupSugar 1 TeaspoonCondensed Milk 3 TeaspoonI have found 2 teaspoons work per one cup of water and taste like restaurant quality. I have a "tea spoon" that equates to 1.25 teaspoons I use for loose tea, and I used it last time I made this. So that was about 2.5 teaspoons and while a bit stronger it was still good. I rambled a bit, but hope it helps.
Question: Can you please explain how to make it? I keep trying different suggestions (boiling amount and steeping time) but it tastes watery and not sweet at al
Answer: If you're looking for the powder form that you just add water to; it's Big Train Chai. We drink both, but this is more potent enjoyable spice flavor. The Big T is also good as a frozen chai, i.e., Starbucks, but you'll save a lot more with this and enjoy the true flavors of spice. We use 1/2 c. tea to an 8 cup coffee press and let steep overnight, stir well to let out all flavor, then dissolve 1/2 c. sugar & press, keep concentrate in fridge until use. Fill 1/2 mug with concentrated tea mix you made and other 1/2 hot water or cold water and cream, yum! Great also for iced tea. Big hits at parties especially if you add the tapioca bubbles.
Question: Is it leaves or just powder
Answer: I can't remember cause I throw the package away. It's grounded tea leaf

Answer: I have seen a special strainer for sale on Amazon but I just use a french press to make it and have used the device for regular loose tea leaves.

User questions & answers

Question: What are some preparation tips mine didn't come out restaurant quality
Answer: It's definitely spiced, and definitely not plain tea. It has a unique flavor.
Question: What is the differnce between the yellow and red containers
Answer: It tastes just like the thai tea I've had at several restaurants. The flavor is complex, but I don't know if I would personally call it "smoky". If you steep it for a very long time (I boil it for 2ish minutes and then let it stand for 30 mins before straining) then it has, what I suppose could be seen as, a smoky flavor (but is really mostly an over-steeped taste, but that seems to be how it should be made and I love it).
Question: What are the exact ingredients
Answer: Shredded leaves. What we do is use our automatic coffee pot as the brewer. Put filter in , then fill with one cup Thai teas to 8 cups of water. Brew. Put in pitcher in the frig. after cooling fill glass 1/2 way with ice, put 1/2 cup sweet cream then tea and enjoy
Question: Does this product have FD&C Yellow No
Answer: It is green tea. Green tea refers to the amount of processing, not the color. The package very clearly reads 'green tea.'

Question: How many teabags would it take to make a pitcher full
Answer: I would recommend using 2-3 sachets with a cup of hot water. Wait for 3-5 mins and remove the tea bags (squeeze the tea bag a bit as it is where flavor most concentrated). Then, you can add sugar, ice and half&half. Alternatively, you can use condensed milk instead of half&half if you want to make it the way they do in Thailand.
Question: What are the ingredients
Answer: Yellow Container : Thai Ceylon Tea Premium formula, 2.5g. x 50 sachets Red Container : Thai Tea Delicious formula, 4g. x 50 sachets

Answer: No because they come wrapped individually in plastic
Question: Are there any plans for a decaf version to be released? I've seen decaf Assam, so I'm assuming it's possible
Answer: I just use this for regular tea. It can be on the strong side for taste/flavor. But still delicious.
Question: I want to see there is no yellow No. 6 or anything else so thanks for listing the ingredient but can you add picture of ingredients on the package
Answer: I’ve been using one tea bag per 10-16 oz of water. You can put as much or as little water since the flavor is quite strong. It’s really at your discretion how strong you want the tea flavor. But for me, as stated above, I just guesstimate it and depends on my mood.
Question: When will you be coming out with more organic tea products
Answer: 1. Place one tea bag into cup or mug. Add hot water. 2.Let steep 2-3 minutes until tea dark orange. Add sweetener. 3.Let cool & serve iced. Customize your tea with milk or lime. The three simple steps are written on the flaps of the box.

  • Includes 12 packets, 1.23 Oz each

User questions & answers

Question: Is this the same as nara thai tea? does it taste the same
Answer: I add milk. I found water diluted the flavor. I used to use powdered creamer, but it was too rich for me. Nonfat milk worked just as well as powdered creamer and water for me, and it cut down on calories and richness that could be overwhelming with the powdered creamer.
Question: What’s the caffeine content on each packet
Answer: Have to stir well
Question: I buy the exact same brand and packet amount at Asian grocert stores for under 5.00. Why is this so expensive here
Answer: Icing (whatever that is), vegetable oil powder, malodextrin, tea extract, and FD&C yellow No 6
Question: How do you mske this tea? Is it instant and come eith cream and sugar already
Answer: The tea in this is powdered black tea, and it also has powdered milk and seasonings. Unfortunately, there’s nothing that tells us the specific amounts. But powdered black tea has about 40mg of caffeine per 8 oz cup, compared to about 26 in a tea bag. From my experience, this seems accurate. I expected this to have less caffeine than say, iced tea, but I have trouble sleeping if I drink this in the evening. I’d say based on those amounts and my own experience that this product has the same or slightly more caffeine than regular black tea bags. Hope this helps!
