| Answer: | You can get them without any sort of license. You can listen all day long, legally But some frequencies require you to have a license to transmit on them. The walkie talkies can be programmed with frequencies that require no license. But that is a bit in the grey zone of legality. The no license frequencies require you to use a certified radio for those frequencies. But who is going to know you are using a noncertified radio? They all sound the same. But transmit on a frequency that requires a license and you will be caught and you will not like it. Amateur radio bands and GMRS frequencies require different licenses. Security guard frequencies require a license also. You will be caught easily on those. FRS and MURS frequencies require no license. It is likely you will never be caught nor will anybody care if you use a noncertified radio. Have fun. Who knows, maybe get licensed for amateur and GMRS. |
