Answer:	Yes, I am aham and I go back and forth between 10 and 11 meters AM, FM and SSB, with no problems at all. It takes gime to learn how to use all tghe features of this radio, but I am extremely pleased with it. Just be sure to use a proper power supply, good quality coax and connectors, and a GOID antenna.
Question:	Do you need a license on shortwave car radios
Answer:	One person below claimed this is a "CB Radio". That claim is not accurate. This radio, unmodified, operates in the 10 meter and 12 meter bands, which requires a General Class, amateur license to fully operate. It is a genuine "Ameteur Radio", not a CB. CB, ie Citizen's Band, is the 11 meter channelized band, does not require a license to operate, and is limited to 20 watts. This radio exceeds output limitations for Citizen's band, and is not legal to operate on 11 meter (CB) even if you are licensed! One can modify this radio to also operate in the 11 meter frequencies, but this would violate the FCC's type-classification for which this radio is certified. In other words, it would be illegal, and could result in a rather hefty fine. Licensed Hams should take note: having an amateur license does not confer any additional privileges on the Citizen's Band. Your best bet is to just get your ham license. Reasonably intelligent people can use the free study guides for 2-3 weeks, and get their General license for about $15-$30 (and it's good for 10 years). If you don't have the inclination to do that, just get a CB.

Answer:	I just got mine. It covers all of 12 meter amateur radio band and all of 10 meter amateur radio band. I found no OFCOM CB channels in it. It has a great receive for 12 and 10 meters. I would not mind hearing 11meter CB from it. But it probably would not transmit on the 11 meter CB band. Besides, I have a very old CB in my Jeep and I rarely hear anybody. If there is a reprogramming you can do to bring 11 meters receive to the radio, I do not think it is worth it. It does have a data port. Perhaps that is the answer.

If you are in Portland, OR, you can talk with someone in San Diego skipping through repeaters. The UV-82HP is a more robust and powerful version of the UV-5Rs. If you buy this, either have an FCC license, or be working toward getting one. But, basically, anyone can listen without transmitting.

Answer:	It comes with a 6p6c based connector line ('telephone' type cord) for relocating the head unit.Ronald A. is also correct about the speaker being in the main body, so unless you mount it under your seat you will need an extension speaker.
Question:	Can you use chirp to program
Answer:	YES you can now use CHIRP to program the TH-9800. I just did so this week. However, the cable I got with my radio has a counterfeit chip in it so you may need to roll back the driver. I run windows 10 and had to roll it back. You'll be looking for a driver with 3.2.2 something. Not difficult but something to be aware of. After rolling back teh driver, it works like a charm (CHIRP and the cable).
Question:	hello, please somebody cant tell me what base antenna is good for this radio
Answer:	If you are planning to use this radio as your base radio (and not mobile), why not use a diplexer to split the antenna connector into two (or more) antenna jacks? That would allow you to have (at a minimum) one antenna for 2m/70cm and another antenna for 6m/10m. Frankly, that will allow much better performance vs. anyone's compromised 4 band antenna (and I've tried several of them).

Question:	Does this come with a programming cable
Answer:	It depends on the package you are getting. You can get the radio only, the radio with cable and disc, or radio, cable, disc, and the HH 9900 quad band antenna. I opted for radio only and made my own cable, antenna, and power supply. Use a real PL2303 microchip if you choose to make your own cable.
Question:	can this unit be set up to scan more than two channels
Answer:	Yes, this unit allows you to select the channels you would like to scan directly from the face of the unit or the mic , depending on what you have the quick keys set for. All the info on this is in the manual that comes with the radio. Note: make sure you buy a radio that comes with the programming software disc and programming cable. If the ad shows or says it comes with programming cable then it should come with the software. At least that has been the case when I ordered and received my radio's.
Question:	Given that the radio will monitor two frequencies at the same time, can you switch between the two for a trx freq from the mircophone
Answer:	Yes. If you program one of the four buttons on the microphone, you can instantly switch transmit from the A and B sides.
Question:	Does this radio support gmrs and frs transmit/receive
Answer:	Yes, but the radio needs to be unlocked through the program: In the software, go under Frequency Range, press F11, and input password 9800TYT. It is illegal to transmit on FRS/GMRS frequencies, but not for emergencies and for listening.

Question:	New to radio learning, plan to use these for airsoft with a few friends across indoor and outdoor fields. Are these okay to use and w/ or w/o license
Answer:	You will have to research the "open use" frequencies. There are the GMRS and FRS frequencies that are used by the department store bubble packs of radio pairs. (although the low power setting should be used) These radios can transmit in a broad range of frequencies that include the above and ham bands and outside what is legal for licensed hams. Business and ham users will report illegal use of their bands to the FCC.
Question:	Are these ham radios, or can you use different channels? we want to use these for hunting, but we don't have ham operators license
Answer:	These ARE strictly amateur (Ham) radios as that is the ONLY thing they are legal for. Get your amateur license. Or, get a GMRS license, and buy GMRS radios. Or, just use FRS. Or, get MURS radios (also “License by Rule”, meaning “Follow the rules and you are automatically licensed”). These radios aren’t “hunting radios”. Get your license(s) and use the proper radios. I have amateur and GMRS.
