These radios are popular among truckers, outdoor enthusiasts, and emergency responders due to their reliable performance and portability. Here are some key features and information about Midland handheld CB radios:

  1. Portability: Midland handheld CB radios are designed to be compact and easy to carry, making them ideal for on-the-go communication. They often come with a belt clip for hands-free use.

  6. LCD Display: Midland handheld CB radios often have an easy-to-read LCD display that shows channel information, signal strength, and other relevant details.

  7. Squelch Control: Squelch control is a feature that helps filter out unwanted static or interference.Users can adjust the squelch level to ensure clear communication.

  8. External Antenna: Some Midland CB radios have a connector for an external antenna, which can significantly improve signal strength and range.

  10. Additional Features: Depending on the specific model, Midland handheld CB radios may come with additional features such as backlit displays, memory channels, and adjustable power levels.

It's important to note that the performance and features of Midland handheld CB radios can vary from one model to another, so it's essential to review the specifications of the specific model you are interested in to ensure it meets your communication needs. User questions & answers

Question: Can you use a fire stick antenna with this unit
Answer: Jeff: Yes you can. You must use detach the flexible portable antenna, attach the provided vehicle 12 volt power source, and then attach the external antenna to the unit.
Question: are there handle bar mounts for the radio for motorcycle
Answer: The only one I've found was was from J@M model PACB-409-15. And they have a high opinion of it. I slightly modified an ARKON mount with the small pouch. I cut down the belt clip to fit in the bracket on dry days and use the pouch on wet days.
Question: There are many magnetic car mount antennas offered....can you suggest the cheapest yet most effective antenna to go with this unit
Answer: Remember your antenna is the most important part of your radio station.. Go with the Sirio Performer 5000, absolutely one of the best antennas you can get for the money.. You get what you pay for.. I've been a radio operator for over 50 years..
Question: So with the adapter, you can plug the radio into something and it will use your car antenna or some other antenna and get further range? How far
Answer: Your antenna is the most important aspect in getting good range on your CB. For the beginner, your best bet is to buy the Midland 18-2442, Center Load Mag Mount Mobile CB Radio Antenna, available on Amazon for $19.99. It works perfectly with the Midland 75-822 unit. The magnetic base is strong enough to stay put until you remove it. It should be centered on the roof of your car, or truck cab, to radiate the best signal.

User questions & answers

Question: Does it come with a antena
Answer: The antena that comes with unit is not very good . It doesn't work in a automobile .
Question: Can you plug into cig lighter while talking on the road
Answer: Yes - it comes with a cigarette lighter plug.
Question: do you have to have a license for this radoi
Answer: CB stands for "Citizens Band", meaning for citizens, which requires no license to operate.
Question: What is the range of this radio if I would get two of them
Answer: Depends on the antenna you use. I used this radio several times in a caravan with another person who used a Cobra CB with roof-mount antenna, as well as some semi trucks. Here's what I found:Included "rubber duck" antenna -- probably 1/2 mile to 1 mile on straightaway, a few car-lengths on curves. (use "low" power to reduce echos)With 29.5 inch mag-mount CB Antenna from RadioShack (fine-tuned with SWR meter after install), about 1-2 miles (use high power)With 102 inch chassis-mounted CB antenna from RadioShack (fine-tuned with SWR meter after install), I reliably and comfortably chatted with trucks at 5-7 miles or my driving buddy at 2 miles (use high power)For comparison, we tried using FRS "family" walkie talkies and they would only work when we were immediately following each other without any curve or vehicles between us.

    User questions & answers

Question: With this radio can i get channel
Answer: Yes. This radio features all 40 channels.
Question: What is the adapter for
Answer: The adapter slides on the bottom of the radio and provides a power plug for your cigarette lighter and the antenna connector for your vehicle.
Question: What type of antenna mount is on the car adapter
Answer: Magnetic is best so you don't have to drill any holes. An Antenex CB-27 is one of the best. Not cheap, about $75. Just don't pinch the cable in your door frame or get the cable in a tight knot. There is a small copper wire down the middle of the cable to be careful with. The connectors on the radio adapter and the antenna cable are standard.
Question: what is the range of these radios, thanks
Answer: This is a hard one to answer. With the rubber duck antenna and a battery pack I was able to contact another mobile radio right at 1 mile in a urban setting. With the car adapter running a tuned k-30 on top of a truck I was talking clear at 11 miles. With different atmospheric conditions and different antenna mounting and.... you name it distance will be different. Put a linear amp on and you may be heard at 20 plus miles... it all depends.

    User questions & answers

Question: can you also use AA batteries to power these radios
Answer: Yes you can, however the output power will drop drastically (form 5 to I think about 2W) with no indication on the display - it would still show “H” for High power. With the included battery pack though (which is essentially 5 1.2 NiMH AAA batteries in series) it achieves 5W transmit power. Which means if you buy it because of 5W output you must use battery pack. However battery pack does not last long. It is only 700mAh. Radio consumes 42mA on standby. So about 16 hours standby time if you don’t transmit. Charding time on the other hand is 12 hours. Make your own conclusions.
Question: what is the best REAL range I can expect
Answer: There are certainly many different choices available to folks regarding radio choices. Many consumers, however, fall into the trap of believing the misleading advertising that various manufacturer’s use to help sell their products, especially when they are in panic mode due to a natural disaster (like an earthquake) or (currently) various lock-down scenarios due to the latest overseas virus. One frequently used example of this buying trap are the claims of 35 to 50 mile range from 1/2 watt UHF FRS/GMRS handheld radios with non-removable antennas (frequently seen on various Cobra, Midland, Motorola, and Uniden radios sold at various big box stores or on the internet). At UHF frequencies (and with a decent antenna), you’ll normally get around 1 mile of range for every 1 watt of power on transmit, so a 1/2 watt big box store FRS/GMRS radio is likely to get only 1/2 mile of range, nowhere near the 35 to 50 mile claims shown on the box in large type (with the phrase “under optimum conditions” shown in very small type). What that means is that if one individual is standing near the cliff face on a tall 9,000 ft. high mountain and his friend is doing the same thing 35 miles away (with nothing between the two mountains but air), then they “may” get the 35 mile range as advertised. When both individuals are at ground level, normal range is reduced to a 1/2 mile (or less) depending upon obstructions that may be in their way.
Question: How much range can I expect from these radios in rugged, mountainous and forested terrain
    Answer: Expect
Question: do I need a gmrs license
Answer: I called the FCC. If the radio goes beyond 2 watts, even if you are only using the lower-power channels, you still need to spend the $70 for the 10 year license. immediate family can use radios with your license (and you on the channel). GMRS will make for a better experience. I would just get it to be safe.

    User questions & answers

Question: Can I use this radio for a home base
Answer: Yes you can, but you'll need a 110v AC to 12v DC power converter and you'll also need a base station type antenna. I'm not sure why you would use this particular unit though because Midland makes a 40watt unit that would be much better suited to base station use.
Question: Are the privacy codes compatible with Motorola talkabout radios
Answer: Yes, however, I also have the T600 talkabouts and I was disappointed in the range between the MXT275 and the T600. I live in the city (Boston) in a neighborhood with lots of houses, so I knew that I had obstructions to deal with. But I thought I would have gotten better performance. The MXT to T600 only got about 50-75 feet further than the two handheld T600s got with each other. I am awaiting the upgraded 3db antenna to see if that helps any. Also, just a note, I did some research and the Talkabouts are limited to max power of 1.5 watts. Probably more realistically 1 watt consistently. I decided to pick up a set of the new Midland T295 handhelds.. as they are rated at nearly 3 watts.. probably 2.5 watts more realistically. But thats still a 150% power increase over the T600s so in theory.. I'm hoping the more powerful handheld.. paired with the MXT and the upgraded 3db antenna will have far better performance. I'm sure I'll have far more success with this set up when we use them on camping trips away from the city tho. Cheers.
Question: Is the internal speaker in the microphone or in the base unit
Answer: There are speakers in both the head unit and the base unit
Question: Does this radio have an internal ID that will show up on another radio or be able to be identified if used with a repeater
Answer: Don’t be fooled, most users don’t and shouldn’t be required to have a license to use this radio. The other answer that says you are required to have and use a call sign is false. You can get a GMRS license which might be a good thing to have. Now if your setting up a repeater I believe you do need to be licensed.

Answer: Urban is about 2 miles. Not tried in the woods yet
Question: Do you need a license

There is no test, you simply sign up for an FCC ID and then fill out a form and pay! We have a few blogs on the topic on Midlandusa.com - https://midlandusa.com/why-do-i-need-a-gmrs-license-how-do-i-get-it/
Question: can you add additional handheld radio to the bundle
Answer: Yes they have bundles with that available
Question: Can you use CB channels on these

    User questions & answers

    Question: Is it water resistant
Answer: Yes, resistant to light splashing
Question: How many watts? this model clearly has more power than other midland radios because it's listed as gmrs and requires a license
Answer: Haha, you have entered the wormhole. These radios are 2.85W according to the FCC filing for the radio FCC ID MMAT295. (Both T290 and T295 have the same ID). Watts can be misleading though, because this radio has a longer internal antenna than the popular GXT1000 and therefore performs a bit better. And to add to your confusion, there are 3 (yes 3) different FCC filing for the GXT1000. The newest GXT1000 radios made after Sept 2018 under FCC ID MMAGXT1050G are now only 2.5w. These radios are junk. If you can find GXT1000s a bit older before 2018 under the FCC ID MMAGXT1050P, those are a bit better at 3.07w. Then there's the totally discontinued GXT1000s manufactured before 2015 that have FCC ID MMAGXT950 that have the full advertised 5.33w. If you can get your hands on these older radios, they are amazing.
Question: What is -the power in watts- of these - not the bs miles which is never attainable

    User questions & answers

Question: the truck i am currently driving is old and has no cig/12 volt power availible. can i charge this at night and use it without having it plugged in
Answer: No you have to plug it in charge it all the way up or wire a 12 v power adapter from the battery in your truck and you can charge it there
Question: Would this be a strong enough cb for listening to close (< 1 mile) truck drivers communicate while on the highway without an added antenna
Answer: No, it will not likely work. The metal body of the vehicle shields you from the signal of others. I take mine while I am driving on the Interstate. The only thing I have ever picked up is when the truckers are right next to me while I am sitting in traffic and not moving. When I am outside the vehicle, I pick stuff up within a mile or two. Most of the truckers are all using single sideband radios, and you won't be able to pick them up with this radio at all.
Question: what is the exact range this can be used if indoors like say im in a apartment my brother is like 2 miles away in a house will it go that far
Answer: There is NEVER an exact range for radio communication. The FCC rules require that CB's put out no more than 4 watts. I have accidentally talked to a guy in New Zealand from Ventura, CA and also from there to Florida. Other times you can't talk across town with the same radio. In your situation, if the two of you are in rooms with windows that face each other you can probably talk with two of these radios and no outside antenna. But put a small magnet mount outside your window, on a pizza pan (steel) and run a wire from your pizza pan to your radio and connect it to the outside of the antenna connection and now you have an ok base station antenna and ground plain, and will be able to talk much further.
Question: Has anyone used the uniden pro401hh? if so what do you think of it. what is the range of the device and do you think it would work in the woods
Answer: I have used this. In an open field was able to get .4 miles. I have not been in the woods yet.
