Product features

SHIMANO STABLE SPOOL DESIGN (S3D)

Shimano's S3D technology leads to significantly reduced spool vibration. By designing a balanced and uniform thin wall aluminum constructed spool, S3D creates an incredibly smooth feeling when casting and retrieving lures.

SUPER FREE SPOOL

SF was designed to eliminate friction on the spool shaft during the cast. In standard baitcasting reels, when the clutch bar is pressed down, the pinion gear is freed and actually can drag on the spool shaft creating friction that can limit the length of a cast. With SF the pinion gear is supported by a ball bearing so that when the clutch is disengaged in preparation for a cast, the pinion gear and spool shaft are kept in perfect alignment. The result is zero friction upon the spool shaft.

HAGANE BODY

The HAGANE Body is a metal reel body with high rigidity. The body stiffness and impact resistance virtually eliminates body flexing. The result transforms the angler's actions directly into cranking power. It's efficiency through strength.

SVS INFINITY

The SVS Infinity provides easy-to-manage, consistent spool control and brake force. With brake weights that use inner friction against the raceway during the cast, SVS Infinity controls spool speed for precision casting especially when using lighter lures. The external adjustment knob provides for quick, precise adjustments for either the conditions or when you switch baits.

User questions & answers

Question: Is this good for salmon fishing
Answer: I have used this fluorocarbon for several years. I use it for trout fishing in Colorado in the 8lb size. Never broke-off a fish, very tough line, virtually invisable in the water, good knot strength, total confident in this line.
Question: I have an extra shakespeare wildcat rod, (7' med-heavy 12-25lb) would this reel work or would the rod be too much for it? than you for any help
Answer: It depends on what type of reel you are installing the line on. To install it on Levelwind reels, the line spool is standing up vertically, narrow edge facing the reel. The line will be coming off the spool on the top, rotating counterclockwise, and transferring the line on to the levelwind spool at the top as well. Open face reels, lay the line spool flat on a surface with the label facing up, and reel the line on the spool. Key is to soak the line spool in warm water before installing it, this will relax the line and allow it to lay smoother and thus, reduce the twisting. Good luck
Question: Whats the difference between the x and the x-hs
Answer: We fish for salmon and Steelhead. A very popular river guide told me to use this leader. For 360 Pro-Trolls I use the 40 pound test. Two reasons one is the heavier line the Pro-Troll gives a lure or spinner a twitching action. Two would be we fish in around other boats and there are Sea Lions always watching. Getting a fish in as quick as possible and even if you have to release get it in quick as possible. I use the 25 pound test for Spring Chinook trolling Cut Plug Herring. This line is a bit easier to tie knots then say P-Line 40 pound test. Have never had it fail and it is supposedly invisible in the water. Most of the time I really don't think the line being invisible is necessary. One other thing important to consider if using Fluorocarbon line it sinks. If trolling close to the bottom you don't want to use any Fluorocarbon line because of it wanting to sink. I'm mainly using it for suspended fish meaning they are off the bottom.
Question: I am looking to purchase one of the abu garcia reels but i need to know which ones offer low gear ratio in the 5 range
Answer: I ordered 100 yards of 20lb and 100 yards of 40lb and received 100 yards of both. I even measured it to see if that was the issue but it’s 100 yards. A 100 yard spool on TackleDirect is $30... I paid $18. I guess they have the issue corrected!
Question: Will this reel work with abu garcia vendetta rod
Answer: Don't have the wrapper so unsure of diameter but can say that Jinki I and LI crimps are a perfect fit and hold strong when Jinki swaggers are used.
Question: made in
Answer: Yes it will . I have landed a 23 lb striper on 10lb Vanish Fluorocarbon. Strong line.
Question: What is the gear ratio
Answer: You could use it that way. I use it more as a leader. I use mono right off the reel.
Question: Does this one make the noise when thrown???? Like a whislte almost
Answer: Yes. Lubing the knot prior to pulling it tight prevents friction that may damage the line. Highly recommended practice for mono and fluorocarbon line.

Product features

MICROMODULE

The Micro Module Gear System creates a smooth retrieve. The new gear set makes use of smaller teeth and more of them. This means that there are more contact points between the drive gear and pinion gear. The result is a more efficient gear train with less gear feel.

X-SHIP

X-Ship provides improved gear durability. By supporting the pinion gear on both ends with bearings, the pinion gear maintains precise alignment with the drive gear. This means the gears will stay in the same position under the heaviest loads. The added benefit is that friction between the spool shaft and gear are eliminated. This will enhance the casting performance of the reel with lighter lures, and allow for longer casts.

HAGANE

The HAGANE Body is a metal reel body with high rigidity. The body stiffness and impact resistance virtually eliminates body flexing. The result transforms the angler's actions directly into cranking power. It's efficiency through strength.

CI4+

CI4+ is the ultimate in lightweight technology.

I-DC4

Intelligent Digital Control braking system with an easy to use, 4 setting, externally adjustable brake dial. This will allow anglers to fish a wide variety of lures, in any conditions, with minimal adjustment to the reel.

CROSS CARBON DRAG

This drag material provides a wider range of drag settings, along with the smoothest Shimano drag performance ever.

Calcutta B

The Calcutta series of reels represents the core of Shimano's quality, versatility, dependability and long-term value. In sizes from the ultralight 50 to the 30# class 700, there's a Calcutta reel for almost any application, in fresh or saltwater. With Dartanium Drag, A-RB (Anti-Rust Bearings), and Super Stopper, the Calcutta will give you years of solid performance.

Super Stopper

Super Stopper anti-reverse uses a one-way stainless steel roller bearing that eliminates back-play. This provides the angler with instant hook setting power.

VBS

VBS uses centrifugal force rather than magnets to aid in controlling the cast. When turned on, the individual brake weights are forced outward at the beginning of the cast when backlashes most often occur, causing friction that reduces the speed of the spool. Once the spool speed begins to slow, the pressure with which the brake weights contact the raceway lessens, allowing the spool to continue spinning.

CF Aluminum Cold Forge Spool

These spools provide increased strength and durability over diecast aluminum or graphite spools.

Metal Series

The metal construction showcased in some of our finest reels now appears throughout our line of Metal Series products. Metal frames not only keep moving parts in precise alignment, they also feature the use of the latest anodizing, plating and painting techniques for beautiful and durable finishes.
