I was also curious how it was going to work, but as soon as I plugged the sub in and set the speaker bar to ID SET and it automatically found the sub and connected. Hope it works as well for you.

Answer:	You can obviously do what ever you want however, this is a side firing sub. It is designed to perform optimally in upright position, with ample clearance to speaker side to ensure quality Room filling bass. If you lay it speaker side down, you will significantly degrade sound quality and muffle all low frequency audio. If you lay it speaker up, you will lose some of the low frequency throw to your room and risk damage if you drop something on speaker.
