13 best arris wifi modems

Arris is a prominent company that manufactures a wide range of networking products, including cable modems and WiFi modems. Their devices are widely used for home and business internet connections. Here's what you need to know about Arris WiFi modems:

1. Functionality: Arris WiFi modems combine the functions of a modem and a router. The modem component allows your computer or router to connect to the internet via your internet service provider (ISP). The router component enables multiple devices in your home to connect to the internet wirelessly (via WiFi) or through wired connections.

2. DOCSIS Technology: Many Arris cable modems use DOCSIS (Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification) technology. DOCSIS is an international telecommunications standard that enables the addition of high-bandwidth data transfer to an existing cable TV (CATV) system. Arris modems are often compatible with various DOCSIS versions, ensuring faster internet speeds.

3. WiFi Standards: Arris WiFi modems support different WiFi standards like 802.11ac or the newer 802.11ax (also known as WiFi 6). These standards determine the speed and range of the wireless network. WiFi 6, for instance, offers faster speeds and better performance in crowded areas with many connected devices.

4. Multiple Ethernet Ports: Arris modems typically come with multiple Ethernet ports. These ports allow you to connect devices like computers, gaming consoles, or smart TVs directly to the modem via Ethernet cables for a more stable and reliable connection.

5. Security Features: Arris modems often include security features such as WPA3 encryption for WiFi connections and firewall settings to protect your network from unauthorized access and potential cyber threats.

6. Compatibility: Before purchasing an Arris WiFi modem, it's crucial to check its compatibility with your internet service provider. ISPs often provide a list of approved modems, ensuring that the device you choose works seamlessly with their network.

7. User Interface: Arris modems usually come with a web-based interface that allows users to customize network settings, manage connected devices, and perform firmware updates for improved performance and security.

8. Customer Support: Arris provides customer support services, including online resources, manuals, and technical assistance, to help users set up and troubleshoot their devices.

Arris WiFi modems are popular choices for home and business users due to their reliable performance, advanced features, and compatibility with various internet service providers. When setting up your modem, always refer to the user manual or online resources provided by Arris for detailed instructions specific to your model.

User questions & answers

Question: It seems impossible to connect a display via usb-c. use thunderbolt usb-c for video, then you can't charge the macbook air. why
Answer: The SBG7600AC2 USB 2.0 port supports connected hard drives with SAMBA and DLNA Media Sharing. In addition to supporting USB 2.0 hard drives, the USB port can be used as a charging connection for mobile devices. Note that the USB port does NOT support Internet connection.
Question: Received today and it is not new. already unwrapped. how do i return to get a new one, like i ordered? or get discount for receiving an open box item
Answer: Contact Amazon for return and replacement.
Question: Has anyone noticed their wifi will cut out randomly with this product throughout the day
Answer: Yes, this is happening increasingly. I bought about 3 months ago. The problem started maybe a couple of weeks later. Now, it’s multiple time, every day. The provider company says they can’t fix. Arris said I was only getting 1 upstream channel, instead of 3. And that was the cause of the intermittent WiFi. You can check your status by typing 192.168.100.1 in browser. Scroll down past your downstream list to see your upstream list. Each line represents a channel. An Arris rep also told me to ask for a ‘tier 1 supervisor’ at the internet provider company. Otherwise, they won’t know how to assist you. That’s where I’m at now. They’re sending a tech out to check everything. I’m just not sure they can fix my upstream problem. We shall see.
Question: It's impossible to get a true perspective of this modem/router because the reviews and questions are for many Arris products. How is this possible
Answer: I have Optimum as my ISP and my Arris modems have been very reliable. I had an Arris TM822A that worked perfectly since 2013. I wanted to stop leasing so I purchased the Arris SB6183 as an upgrade and it is working fine for the last 2 weeks. I would only buy one of two Arris. The SB6183 (16x4) or the SB8200 (32x8). I would not buy the Arris SB6190 /TM602/TM1672) or anything with a Puma 6 chipset. The Puma 6 chipset from Intel has a defect that firmware has still not fixed. You can google that chipset to see the issues with latency. If the Arris works with your cable company, I don't see an issue buying one of the two mentioned. BTW, the two are modems only, no router or telephone connection.

User questions & answers

Question: Is this both a modem and router ? (2 in1 thing
Answer: Yes it is! It has dual functionality. If you have a router you like already you can turn the wifi part off and just use it as a modem
Question: This says it isn't compatible with at&t, does that mean my iphone, with an at&t connection, will not be able to use this modem
Answer: It is not compatible with AT&T High Speed Internet service, only good with traditional Cable Service. Your iPhone will connect to the Wi-Fi without issue.
Question: i'm using this with netgear router (with port forwarding). therefore i have to run this modem in bridge mode. would i be better with a cheaper modem
Answer: I think you'd be better with a cheaper modem. The whole point of getting this modem is so you don't need to purchase a separate router/Wi-Fi access point.
Question: I was reading that you cannot run the lan jack and wifi at the same time on this device, is that true? Has anyone else experienced this problem
Answer: Yes, you can use LAN and wifi the same time.

Answer: This device is not listed on Suddenlink's website as an approved device with its service. Please call them to verify the compatibility
Question: Does this router allow for remote managment

Question: Currently we have a dpc3941t modem, and we are having problems watching got without system pausing. will or could this higher speed device help
Answer: Yes would help, but possibly you need to upgrade your internet speed. This is a modem/router combo so takes up less space and will handle up to 1000mbps so plenty of room to grow if you decide to upgrade internet speed. With Comcast/Xfinity this works great.

User questions & answers

Question: Does this modem support phone service from Xfinity
Answer: No.
Question: Is there any way i could use this in china? i've entered pppoe id and pw provided by isp on wan setting which is set as l2tp, but no luck
Answer: Wherever you are...; be it China or the USA; you must take your device to the local office of your ISP (Internet Service Provider) and have them approve it plus register it with their system. ISP protocols are generally universal worldwide but also universal is the premise that you may not access their system without their permission and they expect to get paid for providing the service
Question: Is this router compatable for voip phone services provided by the cable provider
Answer: No.
Question: how is the warranty isuue? how long
Answer: Warranty is for 3 months. I'd recommend to buy a new one not refurbished. My modem isn't working any more.

User questions & answers

Question: What is the difference between this modem, the SB6183, and the SB
Answer: The SB6180 enables channel bonding of up to 8 downstream channels and 4 upstream channels, which allows an operator to offer their customers advanced multimedia services with data rates of well over 300 Mbps in DOCSIS mode and 400 Mbps in EuroDOCSIS mode for downstream and 120 Mbps upstream. The SB6183 has 16 download & 4 upload channels. Download speeds up to 686 Mbps and upload speeds up to 131 Mbps based on your Cable provider service. That is the main difference I could find. I hope it helps.
Question: do most users need such a fast cable modem? I have comcast performance....is this over kill or futureproofing with docis 3.1 on horizaen
Answer: DOCSIS 3.1 is here, true. And the first set of cable modems using the standard will offer some improvements. As with many technologies, they don't saturate the market overnight. In most cases the availability and maturity of a technology in the marketplace can take years - as much as 3 to 5 years. Even if 15 to 20 percent of the market goes to DOCSIS 3.1 in the first or second year, that says 80 percent hasn't. Future proofing your technology is nice, but a measure of sensibility should be used too. I went to the ARRIS SB6183 knowing that my ISP service is 200 Mbps. It allows a considerable cushion for growth. If my ISP's average speeds jumped to 500 Mbps, and I were to consider another cable modem upgrade, I would focus on a faster cable modem that uses the DOCSIS 3.1 standard or any newer and more powerful standard - allowing me to benefit from the latest standards and speeds. The DOCSIS 3.0 standard may well be nearing its End-of-Life in 2 to 3 years. Therefore, I would see no value going to a 1.4 Gbps DOCSIS 3.0 modem.
Question: Does ARRIS/Motorola support firmware upgrades for the 6183 via downloads to the consumer's computer
Answer: The Cable Operators (MSOs) have complete control of what cable modem/gateway hardware they will allow installed and the firmware it uses, on their cable plant. This means anything directly connected to the cable plant (COAX) in your house. They do this to ensure that nothing happens to anyone upstream from your connections. Cable Operators follow the DOCSIS Specifications that control this methodology of firmware upgrades as well as providing security for the firmware upgrades. Cable Operators also run both the products and firmware through their own test cycles to approve any manufacturers' modems, wireless gateways, and the associated firmware updates for deployment. This is not an ARRIS only implementation, but the required implementation of any cable device manufacturer. After an MSO has tested and approved a new version of firmware for a cable device, they will then "push" that new firmware out to the devices. So upgrades to the modem firmware will be made automatically but you cannot download them to your computer and perform the upgrade yourself.
Question: I purchased this item almost 8 weeks ago 8 August 2014 will i receive this item in my lifetime or will i need to leave this item in my will for my kid
Answer: Purchased SB6183 a week ago, My invoice says estimated shipping between Oct 1 to 10th. What was your estimate date? If i don't see any update by Oct5th i'm going to cancel my order and stick with SB6141.

User questions & answers

Question: How is this model different than the arris surfboard sb
Answer: The sb6121 only has speeds of 172 Mbps download and up to 131 Mbps upload. This model has up to 343 Mbps download and 131 Mbps upload.
Question: Going with the cable modem option what’s the best router to pair this with for spectrum
Answer: It depends on your needs. Needs are based on the number of devices connected and the size of area you are trying to cover. I would highly recommend a mesh network unless your home is 1200sqft or smaller. A centrally located router could cover that. The biggest problem is getting the 5ghz frequency to reach throughout the home. The 5ghz gives you speeds over 30mbps on wireless devices. 5ghz will reach roughly 40ft in all directions from your access point (ap). A mesh system gives you multiple ap and thus more area covered by the 5ghz.
Question: How many devices can connect at once? Is that that the 8x refers to
Answer: The 8x doesn't refer to the number of devices you can connect to it. You only want to connect one device and that's your WiFi router. You wireless router determines how many devices can be connect based on the available number of ip addresses on the wireless device. The 8x refers to the speed of Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS). Its informing you on the speed of DOCSIS 2.0 vs the newer DOCSIS 3.0. Ultimately your speed will be determined by how much you want to pay your internet provider. And you can determine how many devices you want to connect by the router you choose.
Question: Do I also have to buy a router for the modem? And to make sure it obviously speeds up internet connection right
Answer: If you only need to have one computer hooked up to the internet you do not need a router. If you want to hook up more than one computer or if you want a wireless network, you will need to buy the appropriate router. My internet speed went from 20mb to 100mb(the speed I pay extra for). TWC has also stopped charging me $8.00 a month for the use of their inadequate equipment.

User questions & answers

Question: What’s the WiFi range on the sbg
Answer: In a house it tends to be sufficient. My security cameras run without issue 40-50 feet away. Range drops off outside the house after about 15 feet. So a 60-70 foot radius from the router, then I tend to jump to a neighbors xfinitwifi as a backup outside
Question: does this have a phone jack
Answer: No phone jack. Mine has 3 ports 1. Power, 2. Incoming Cable, and 3. Outgoing ethernet.
Question: will this work with WOW
Answer: This will work with WOW for everything but their 1 Gb service tier.
Question: Can you turn off the Mcaffee crap? Has anyone noticed this router not allowing you to visit sites it thinks are “dangerous
Answer: As OP said I never installed, so nothing to turn off. I started having many problems using a non standard gate way address (192.168.10.1). Router would forget WiFi password, couldn’t access the GUI there. Almost as though the firmware was becoming corrupted. I sent mine back, waiting for replacement - that’s another story.

User questions & answers

Question: Does anyone know if "Bridge Mode" is supported
Answer: Not sure if it's supported, per-say, however you are able to enable bridge mode on the device's interface. This disables both wireless radios and essentially gives you a pass through network connection to whatever you connect to it.
Question: How come the price is almost $20 higher when I put this item in my cart? Price jumped to
Answer: Price changes every time. Many times they only have a couple and when they are sold it jumps to the next seller. It's happened to me many times.
Question: Does this device still broadcast the the hidden and/or unhidden "public xfinity wifi" ssid
Answer: The xfinity wifi does not appear anymore since I switched to this modem. I also disabled the modems Wi-Fi in favor of a better Wi-Fi router.
Question: Is this arris surfboard svg2482ac sold by amazon carried the intel logo on the modem as the picture shown
Answer: this modem has the flawed Intel Puma 6 chipset which causes problems with streaming video and gaming. Arris knew of this problem as far back as 2015 yet they still released this piece of junk new in 2017. Avoid at all costs if you plan to use this for gaming or video streaming, it is not reliable.

Question: What if the mac address is not remove from previous owner's internet provider? that make i can not access internet from my internet provider
Answer: All I know is once I got it hooked up, I called my Internet Service Provider, and they asked me my mac address and pinged the modem and their tech support basically made the connection and granted internet access. I don't think it matters about the previous mac not being removed. What matters is the gaining ISP getting the mac address and granting you internet access so they can send you a monthly bill.
Question: How do you rename the network and set a new password
Answer: https://youtu.be/gJXrWyIfqQw
Question: What's the wifi range
Answer: The range is great. I get an excellent signal in my entire apartment
Question: Will this work with 100mbps xfinity connection
Answer: Yes

User questions & answers

Question: Does this work with u-verse
Answer: yes approved with at@t.
Question: Keeps dropping out. Installed June 30,2016 and have not been able to resolve the issue of constant dropping out of internet connection. Any ideas
Answer: Probably a loss of signal issue. See the link that follows for guidelines related to Comcast, which are most likely comparable to other providers. I would recommend contacting your provider to be sure it isn't something they can help with. Check for all compression fittings to the modem, be sure it isn't being split. Might need an in line signal amplifier. http://forums.xfinity.com/t5/Your-Home-Network/Connection-Troubleshooting-Tips/m-p/1253575#U1253575
Question: Does this modem have a telephone port
Answer: Are their any with a telephone port
Question: Can I hook a rip current directly to this modem / router or would I need to buy a ripcurrent modem as well
Answer: The SURFboard SBG6900 has built-in Wi-Fi, but unfortunately, it is not enabled with RipCurrent (G.hn technology), If you are interested in a RipCurrent solution, I would recommend purchasing the SURFboard SB6901 cable modem, which is the same modem unit as the SBG6900 but without the Wi-Fi. Then, I would purchase one of the RipCurrent routers, such as the SBR AC1200 or SBR AC3200 and add either a wired or wireless extender, depending upon your needs
