Question:	Do you need a sustain pedal or can you program a button or knob to perform the sustain function
Answer:	Hi, There may be ways to do this as a workaround but it would depend on your DAW. You would generally be better using a Sustain pedal. Answer:	I don't know about the AKAI, this is a midi controller, but once you buy it you get many links so you can download sounds, vst synths and FXs, I mean a lot...hope this works for you
Question:	It cannot record on its own right if I wanted to play my bass and I plugged it into the keyboard and then hooked it up to ableton it wouldn’t work
Answer:	You would need an audio interface. The 1/4" jack on this keyboard is only for an expression pedal, so the keyboard can't send your Bass' audio to ableton. Check out the focusrite Scarlett interface for recording your instruments directly into Ableton.

Answer:	I believe they mean you can send 1-6 commands with a single button click. I don't believe you can send one command with a click, then send a second, different command, with the next click of the same button. But there's always the possibility that you could send a certain MIDI CC command that is interpreted by your DAW in different ways, depending on the DAW's tools and/or scripting.

Answer:	Ableton actually recognizes this controller in the MiDI setup menu. The only drawback is that you need to manually set it up in Ableton each time you create a new playlist or set. I have used the Nektar “song” pedals with assigned MIDI notes to move between locators in my Ableton sets. The DAW control interface must be manually setup for play, stop, rewind, fast forward, etc. it’s a bit annoying, but once it’s set, it works perfectly. Check out the you tube tutorials for easy setup.
