12 best tb hard drive
A TB (terabyte) hard drive is a type of internal hard drive commonly used for data storage in computers and other electronic devices. Here's what you need to know about TB hard drives:
Capacity: A TB hard drive, short for terabyte hard drive, typically has a storage capacity of 1,000 gigabytes (GB).This makes it suitable for storing large amounts of data, including documents, photos, videos, applications, and more.
Types: TB hard drives come in various types, including traditional spinning hard disk drives (HDDs) and solid-state drives (SSDs). Each has its advantages and disadvantages:
- HDD: HDDs are known for their affordability and high storage capacity. However, they have moving parts and are generally slower in terms of data access and transfer speeds compared to SSDs.
- SSD: SSDs are faster, more reliable, and energy-efficient because they have no moving parts. They are a popular choice for those looking for speed and durability, but they are often more expensive per terabyte compared to HDDs.
Use Cases: TB hard drives are used for various purposes, including:
- Storing large media files such as videos and high-resolution photos.
- Backing up important data and files.
- Expanding the storage capacity of desktop computers, laptops, and gaming consoles.
- Running data-intensive applications or virtual machines.
Compatibility: TB hard drives can be compatible with a range of devices, including PCs, Macs, gaming consoles, and external enclosures. It's important to ensure that the drive you choose is compatible with your specific device and operating system.
Connection Interfaces: TB hard drives may use various connection interfaces, such as SATA (for internal drives), USB, Thunderbolt, or eSATA (for external drives). The choice of interface can affect data transfer speeds and compatibility with different devices.
Reliability: The reliability of a TB hard drive can vary depending on factors such as brand, model, and usage. Some manufacturers offer drives with features like error correction and advanced wear-leveling algorithms to enhance reliability.
Price: The price of TB hard drives can vary widely depending on factors like capacity, type (HDD or SSD), and brand. SSDs generally tend to be more expensive per terabyte than HDDs.
Maintenance: Regular backup and maintenance are essential to protect your data stored on TB hard drives. It's advisable to have a backup strategy in place to prevent data loss in case of drive failure.
In summary, a TB hard drive is a storage device with a capacity of 1,000 gigabytes and is available in both HDD and SSD formats. It is commonly used for data storage in computers and electronic devices, offering a range of options for different use cases and requirements. When choosing a TB hard drive, consider factors like capacity, type, compatibility, and reliability to ensure it meets your specific needs.

User questions & answers
Question: | Usb 2.0. Support |
Answer: | When I use it, I feel its heat dissipation function is good, it won't be very hot. |
Question: | What is the warranty? i can't find any info on it at seagate except that there isn't a warranty via seagate based on the serial number i entered |
Answer: | Hello,It can be used as a boot drive, but the PSSD needs to be connected to the USB2.0 interface on the computer.Thank you. |
Question: | Can you use this for PS |
Answer: | USB ports are charging only. Not a hub. |
Question: | How many hours of music can this hold |
Answer: | I have two WD Mybook 10TB HDDs and they act oddly, too. They vary between 130MB/s to 30MB/s for no known reason on a dedicated USB3.1 port. NO other drives are in use other than the NVe 128GB internal drive on Win10home 64bit system. Either HDD can start at 130MB/s and within seconds be bogged down at 30MB/s for 5 minutes at a time...briefly go back to 110MB/s, then right back down to 30MB/s. This is while transferring files from the internal NVe drive to the MyBook HDD. It may be cache management that is perhaps screwing around with the drive I/O. Either that or there is some "wear management" going on in the HDDs and it is alternating between PHYSICAL inner and outer tracks on the drive. Typically as you fill-up more of a standard HDD, the MB/s decreases and it can be significant...but this happens even when these MyBook HDDs are brand new, with no new added data as yet. My lower capacity WD HDDs (1TB and 2TB) attached via a Wavlink HDD USB3.0 docking station do NOT act like these higher capacity drives. They have consistent and as expected I/O speeds typically exceeding 120MB/s. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is the 2tb (st2000dm008) internal hard drive cmr or smr |
Answer: | The 2TB, 4TB, and 8TB drives are all SMR, which means they are slow for random writes and not suitable as boot drives. (Google "Why SMR drives are sub-optimal for write-intensive workloads".) |
Question: | Is this really 7200rpm? the model number suggests otherwise |
Answer: | I got the ST4000DM004 which claims 7200 rpm on amazon and my computer is reporting it has a media rotation rate of 5425 rpm |
Question: | Is a sata cable included in the package |
Answer: | Cables not included. You can buy a SATA data cable and likely the appropriate power cable for your computer right here on Amazon. Depending on your power supply, the power cable may already be connected to it in your computer -- some have that and some do not. |
Question: | Is this 7200 or 5400rpm |
Answer: | Only the 1 TB (#ST1000DM010) and 2 TB (#ST2000DM008) models are 7200, all the larger models are 5400. Both the llisted speed and model number change in the product description as you pick different disk size options. This is consistent with Seagate's website -- From the home page, drill down through (or search for) Internal / Hard Drives / BarraCuda - Learn More, and then click the 3.5 inch models tab (NOT the 3.5 inch PRO models tab). Then click on the data sheet next to any model to get a PDF with a table containing all of the models along with their drive speeds and other specs.. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Just for clarification, this 1tb version will work if i plug it into my S8+ without any additional hardware to retrieve and transer files? Thank you |
Answer: | 2 USB Ports, C-Port, HDMI, and SD |
Question: | Can i boot windows 10 directly using boot camp if i connect it to my mbp? im running out of storage on my mac so i don’t want to partitin&useboot camp |
Answer: | No. You can transfer with a flash drive. |
Question: | Will this ssd work as a external hard drive for ps |
Answer: | Which os and service pack or kernel level are you using, if linux based. also let me know the model of your laptop, onto which its installed.. mine works great on a dell latitude E6320, also crosscheck your ATA/AHCI settings on bios. any cloning utility used..? or fresh installs? |
Question: | I am running mac os catalina. if i reformat the drive, will it erase the cache that’s built into the drive |
Answer: | I tried it in a usb3 dock and didn't get nearly the performance others get hooking directly to sata. About 80Mbps average write speed backing up to capacity with HD video projects. Started out at around 270Mbps but that only lasted the 1st 20 sec or so. I get closer to 100Mbps average throughout with 7200 rpm Seagate laptop drives of same form factor and size. eSata might be a better bet and you won't need an enclosure... no circuitry is exposed as is. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this come with the power adapter |
Answer: | Yes, 110-240v power supply |
Question: | Is this compatabible with the ps |
Answer: | PS4 maxes out at 8TB. Do not buy this 12TB thinking it will work...trust me I already checked. |
Question: | Will this work with a system that only has USB2.0 ports |
Answer: | Technically it won't be any faster than a USB2 drive since the limit will be the port on the PC. But it will work no worse and if you ever get a PC with USB3 ports it will work much better. |
Question: | which one is better? elements 8tb or my book 8tb |
Answer: | I bought a My Book 8TB several years ago, and I bought the Elements 8TB about a week ago. I love the Elements drive, in my experience it is much better than either the My Book or the Seagate 8TB which I also own. The Elements drive is nearly silent and I got a solid 100MBps sustained write speed, which none of the other drives match. The Seagate is very slow. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How many RPM |
Answer: | I am 100% certain that the drive inside is 5400 RPM. The 4TB is a ASIN:B013HNYV8I WD Blue WD40EZRZ 5400rpm.See my review: https://www.amazon.com/review/R388G5P0ACHROS |
Question: | I did not realize this has a a/c power cord. does it require a/c power to work or will the usb power it |
Answer: | A desktop hard drive requires both 12 volts and 5 volts for power while a USB port only supplies 5 volt power. A laptop hard drive does not require 12V power which is why portable drives based on such drives can be powered by the USB port. |
Question: | What is the hd speed for this storage device? do they spin at 7500 rpm |
Answer: | We'll need to clarify "speed" vs. rpm to answer the spirit of your question. First, to answer one of the above commenters,- Having RAID doesn't alter the disk spin rate of each drive, and for the original poster the hard drive rpm speed is not necessarily directly tied to the ultimate "speed" you're thinking of, for general questions of speed you should be looking at the Data Read/Write speeds. This unit does have RAID 0 setup out of the box with two 4TB WD Red 5400 rpm drives. But the fact that it's 5400 rpm isn't because it's "cheapo" as mentioned above, it's a very deliberate decision on behalf of the product manufacturers, for very good reason. Most "NAS Certified" spinning hard drives, as the WD Red series is, are 5400 rpm, this is because NAS devices are generally always left on, so that any PC on the network can access the device when needed. Using 5400 rpm drives in this way saves power consumption for each drive; it also keeps the radiant heat down coming off each and every drive in the NAS unit (this unit only has two hard drives but they can have any number of drives: 2, 4, 5, 8, 12, even more in high end units), so if you keep a unit like this on in your room or office it keeps the temperature of the room cooler; it also extends the life of each of the drives, slower spinning disks are proven to be less likely to run into issues than their faster spinning counterparts, and a longer life is CRITICALLY important given the use case of these drives as RAID enabled backup/storage destinations- If RAID 1 is being used, the higher the drive failure rate, the more often you need to be reacting quickly to replace the failed drive, because the second a drive dies in a RAID array you're up against a clock of unknown time-limit counting down to the loss of your data, because if another drive dies before you replace the first and rebuild the array, you will lose all the data on the NAS (in most cases); If RAID 0 is being used as is setup by default, you lose ALL the data the moment EITHER drive dies. So drive longevity is very important. Beyond all those benefits, there's one very important reason to note regarding why it doesn't really negatively impact speed very noticeably when 5400 rpm drives are used- Drives used in a RAID array work as a team, and generally speaking the more drives in a RAID array the faster the read speed, because reads for each file are distributed across all of the spinning disks, meaning the 2 discs in RAID 0 only need to spin up to retrieve half the file each. 3 Discs? 1/3 the seek time (i'm oversimplifying but that's generally a good way to look at it). Given these massive speed increases while working in parallel, any speed bottlenecks you may run into are just as likely to be due to any number of other interface areas. TL;DR- 5400 rpm is GOOD for NAS devices! Increasing to 7200 rpm provides negligible data access speed increases, and could cause various long-term issues. If you need a drive speed increase nowadays you simply pay-up for SSD drives and live in luxury. |
Question: | Does somebody know which hdd is inside the new wd my book 8 tb ? maybe a helium hitachi or a red wd |
Answer: | Previously in the case of the 8TB model WD80EZAZ. As of Jan 2021 (and probably earlier) they use WD80EDAZ, mine was manufactured late Sept. 2020. These new ones don't appear to be helium sealed and run quite a bit hotter. Previously the EZAZ drew 400/500mA while these newer EDAZ draw 700/900mA from the +5/12V rails so that probably accounts for the extra heat. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this work with PS4 if you have the nyko data bank plus |
Answer: | Yes it does - I have this one and also a black one with a black pop socket on it as well. |
Question: | My old 2tb is getting old I’m looking to buy one for the data bank I have for my old ps4 will the 4tb be compatible with the 3.5 nyko data bank |
Answer: | The inner sleeve (best way i can describe it) is made of rubber and goesaroune the entire edge leaving openings where needed and then that is held in place with a plastic-like shell. I say plastic-like because it doesn’t seem as brittle as plastic. |
Question: | So im seeing two different answers, will the 4TB model work in a ps4 or no |
Answer: | The Symmetry series does not offer direct protection over the screen. The OtterBox Defender series does. However, I have the Symmetry case on my iPhone 7 Plus and have never had issues with my screen. The bumpers help provide protection around the screen. I did apply a tempered glass screen to it for extra protection. I hope this helps! |
Question: | Is this 7200 rpm |
Answer: | No, the Prefix Series Case for iPhone 12 Pro Max doesn't have the silver-based antimicrobial additive that is integrated into some of our other models. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can I plug this in as an external hdd enclosure with usb 3.0 capabilites and have it function on an xbox one |
Answer: | Yes, the only requirement on the Xbox One side is that the connection be USB 3.0 and the drive be a minimum of 500 Gb. Other than that purchase a reliable enclosure kit that also supplies power and uses the SATA connection already on the HDD. |
Question: | On the picture it shows the hard drive's insides, do I need a special enclosure besides me computer case for this |
Answer: | If your are installing in a Windows PC, that is a new-ish computer (probably any that came with vista and many that came with XP) it will support Serial ATA hard drives, open abbreviated to SATA drives. You should look up the specs on your computer to insure compatibility. This hard drive is a SATA drive so it will install and replace your other computer. I purchased this drive, and also bought an external case. This would allow this internal hard drive to work as an external drive. It plugs into an external power supply and connects to the computer with a USB cable. The external case I purchased here on amazon is a: Sabrent USB 3.0 To 3.5-Inch Sata Aluminum Hard Drive Enclosure Black Case.I was installing Windows 7 on my PC. I stalled the WD 1 TB drive in the PC, installed the Windows 7 software, then installed my older smaller drive in the external case. |
Question: | Is this the retail version (boxed) or is it an OEM bulk drive |
Answer: | What do you think you get for $86/4TB? It's OEM without a warranty. If you want that spend $20 more for 2 years with the retail version. For my use I don't need a warranty anyway, odds are it will fail decades from now since I use these as storage mostly sitting unpowered on a shelf 95% of the time (with LTO backups just in case I'm unlucky). The 4 in my PC are the same drives in an 8TB raid1, and they have been spinning 24-7 for 3 years now with no HDD replacement needed. |
Question: | Which 1 TB hard disk you recomend between the Western Digital Blue WD10EZEX or the Seagate Barracuda ST |
Answer: | I have bought and used WD and Seagate hard drives. I have never had an internal WD hard drive fail on me yet, but I have had one of their older Elements external hard drives fail on me. As for Seagate, I purchased an ST2000DM001 (which is the 2tb version) several months ago that has now failed. I lost everything and got a clicking sound, as if it were stuck. Only lasted 5 months. In comparison I have had my 1st WD blue WD10EZEX for more than two years now and I have not had a failure at all. It's extremely reliable, so much so I decided to replace the Seagate one with a another one of the WD10EZEX's. I have 4 hard drives in my computer 1 SSD (For operating system), 2 WD Blues 1tb and an older Seagate one from an older computer (a dell dimension) with about 250gigs of capacity. I'm planning on getting another blue or black 1 tb to replace it later. I definitely would recommend the blues. It's not that expensive, it's reliable and comes with a decent warranty. I would not recommend Seagate. Just can't trust it. No matter what hard drives should last past the warranty, not even a year and it fails? What kind of QC are they having at Seagate? |
