Answer:	The holes are required by our Safety Standard BS 7272 to prevent suffocation. If the cap is swallowed, the airway will not close off due to the holes. In regard to drying out, the holes are outside of the sealable cover so air will not touch the nib when the cap is on.

Answer:	The tablet stay dormant if you do not use it. You can write something & lock the screen too. I don't have any problems with battery life. I do not think you will have any as well. It's a great writing surface for kids, but the stylus will probably be loss within the first month if not earlier depending on the age of your children.
