User questions & answers
Question: | will this plug into my kindle fire hd 8 tablet |
Answer: | Hello Michael,Thanks for asking this question. There is a lot of confusion about connecting a cable for video-out with the Kindle Fire tablets.Only some generations of the Kindle Fire have a Micro-HDMI port for video out. The easiest way to tell is to look for a 2nd port in addition to the Micro-USB port used for charging the tablet. If there is a 2nd port that is about the same size, then this is your Micro-HDMI port. We have posted an illustration with the pictures of the Micro-HDMI cable showing the size of the connector. Also, you will need an HDMI cable to connect from the adapter to a display. Please contact us at [email protected] if you have any other questions.Cable Matters Support Team |

User questions & answers
Question: | I can't get it to give me signal on a gtx 970 and an lg 24gm77. any clues |
Answer: | How long was the cable? I got a 15’ and it’s too long for my 1080ti to provide signal |
Question: | Is pin 20 disabled on this cable ? This is a big problem with most non-certified cables which prevent proper monitor shutdown and computer booting |
Answer: | I don't have a multimeter to check it, but I use that cable on my system and the monitor shuts down properly for me. I'm not sure if that's the signal on 20 or my monitor knowing to shut off when it doesn't have a video signal. My monitor is a VG248QE to a Sapphire nitro R9 380X video card. |
Question: | is this a DP 1.2 Cable? I need to know for the G-Sync monitor I will use this for |
Answer: | Yes, it is. I received this from a friend and it works with G-Sync. The 102005 and 102015 series are DP 1.2. The 102025 series is DP 1.4. |
Question: | I can't get it to go over 60hz with my Benq 144hz monitor, is there something that I must do to fix this problem |
Answer: | The issue is NOT the cable. The problem is that Windows is auto-selecting the WRONG OPTION. Instead of Ultra HD/HD/etc.... scroll down in your display settings to the PC settings. From there you can choose 1920x1080 @144hz. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this cable be used for charging my Kindle Fire? I need a heavy duty one that the tip that attaches to the Kindle won't keep bending |
Answer: | No, this is not a charging cable for the Kindle Fire (any model). For USB charging you need a MICRO-USB to USB cable. (Not Mini-USB as others have said.) Charging on some models is best done with the dedicated high-output charging module from Amazon, as fast charging takes more than most USB ports can supply. But if you're not in a hurry, or have a model with lower current requirements for charging, then simple USB charging is possible with a USB to micro-USB cable. |
Question: | I purchased the cable, but am confused. Is the micro HDMI cable different that a micro USB? I tried to connect to my tablet, but it doesn't fit |
Answer: | The 2014 HD7 uses a USB 2.0 (micro-B connector) to HDMI. This cable is a mini HDMI to HDMI. Looks very similar, but will not match. You need to go back to the tablet technical specifications to find the exact size of your charge/output port. This is just an example. |
Question: | Is this cable compatible with a kindle fire hd 7 4th generation |
Answer: | I brought this cable an it doesn't fit my kindle fire 6, 5th generation or my kindle 7, 5th generation |
Question: | Will this work to connect my kindle fire to my HDTV |
Answer: | Yes. That's what I purchased it for and that's what I use. I have an LG TV 40" and when you plug it into the hdmi it actually fills the entire screen on my TV! It works great & is worth the money. For a kindle fire like I have, be sure to get the micro hdmi/hdmi. A lot of others bought the mini hdmi & that isn't compatible. I hope this helps you! |

User questions & answers
Question: | will this work |
Answer: | Do you mean 1440x1080, a 4:3 format on the display? If your monitor has an HDTV port and your computer has a standard DisplayPort, then yes, it will work. |
Question: | Would the 4k variant of the cable work for my 21:9 monitor? it would be dp out of the gpu and hdmi in the monitor |
Answer: | I just tried this in the same situation and am having problems. It is only seeing a max native resolution of 1920x1080, instead of the correct resolution for a 21:9 Ultrawide monitor - 2560x1080. If anyone knows of a way to fix this, it would be appreciated.EDIT: I have resolved my issue. It was a bad AMD video driver installation on my Dell Latitude E6540. Manually cleaning out all AMD drivers (by running "uninstall ALL" in the AMD installer and then the Wagnardsoft DDU program in Safe Mode), and then doing a fresh, clean install of the latest driver package available from Dell seems to have fixed the issues I was having with the resolution. I am now getting the correct 2560x1080 ultrawide resolution over this cable, on BOTH monitors, through the two ports on its docking station. |
Question: | If my monitor only has a display port and no hdmi port, but the device i want to connect to it only has an hdmi port, would this work for me |
Answer: | This specific cable is supposedly for display port with laptop and HDMI for monitor. It did not work at all though... |
Question: | I'll be using a NVIDIA gtx 960 4gb will the 4K cable be sufficient to run three ASUS 24" 1080p monitors |
Answer: | Yes, I believe so. I am running three 1080p monitors, two 32" and one 29" I use a DVI on one display, HDMI on another and the DP cable on the the third which is a 33" 1080p. I have an NVIDIA GTX750ti 2gig GPU but can't think of any reason the GTX960 would be any different. Not a problem going DP on the computer to the monitor but do want to point out that it is a one way cable and doesn't work the other way. Hope this helps. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can i connect my sonos beam soundbar to my tv with this cable? i want to connect the soundbar to the arc port on my tv |
Answer: | These cables are to stiff to be useful in a close connection. Be careful the plugs will come apart if you pull on them.. |
Question: | Does it work with less than 4k monitors |
Answer: | Presumably any 1080p HDMI connection would work. |
Question: | Will this work for an 144 hz monitor |
Answer: | RESPONSE FROM MANUFACTURER-CABLE MATTERS: The HDMI Cable supports the latest HDMI 2.0b standard and is capable of 1080p@144Hz. For more information, please contact us through Amazon's messaging center. Open the product page, click on "Sold by Cable Matters" and then "Ask a Question”. Cable Matters Support Team |
Question: | are the HDMI cables 2.2 or |
Answer: | There are no HDMI 2.2 cables yet, in fact HDMI 2.1 cables have yet to hit the market, although there are a few HDMI 2.1 (8K) TV's available. Some of these aren't fully compliant yet, 8K (with HDMI 2.1) is supposed to be 60Hz, all I've seen today are only 30Hz. This HDMI 2.0 cable will be around for a few years to a decade to come (until 4K is the norm & 8K the option). Should be compatible with most any HDMI equipped device available as of this date (May 2019). Hopefully the quality is as good as the specs shown, some aren't durable (frays around the plug area), especially when installed in a bind (stress area). There are adapters to correct this, however it's important to get the one that meets the need. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can I use this cable to output video from my hackintosh via hdmi out from my nVidia video card to the thunderbolt input on a apple 27" display |
Answer: | No, this cable only works in one direction: video must be transmitted from your computer with Mini DisplayPort to a monitor/HDTV with HDMI input. Please email [email protected] if you have any further questions. Thanks,Cable Matters Support |
Question: | I have a 2013 MabBook Pro. Can I use this to connect to TV? Do I need a HDMI cable as well to use this |
Answer: | You will not need an HDMI cable. With a 2013 MacBook, this cable will transmit both audio and video. You're set with this. |
Question: | I have a early 2011 macbook pro and a hdtv is this cable compatible or do i need another connector |
Answer: | Hi Kara,I too have an early 2011 Macbook Pro and an HDTV. This cable worked perfectly for me. |
Question: | Is this cable bi-directional |
Answer: | I'm not completely sure what you mean, but I'll try to answer it a couple of different ways. If you mean does data go both directions so that it functions as an input and output cable then the answer is no. The cable connects to the mini display port on a mac computer and sends audio and video signals to a hdmi compatible television. This is really the only purpose that the cable can be used for since the mini display port is specific to mac computers. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will it fit the Galaxy S5 with an OtterBox Defender case on it? The end looks kinda big |
Answer: | I have a Galaxy S5 with OtterBox and this cable fits just fine. No problems whatsoever. |
Question: | Are they backward compatible with desktop USB 2.0 ports (just slower)? Some reviews imply yes, but the product description doesn't exactly say so |
Answer: | USB 3.0 usually refers to the "device end" of the cable. You can get a good idea of the specs at the following Wikipedia page: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB_3.0 In general, the PC end is an "A" type connector and may or not be "SuperSpeed" (blue insert indicates SuperSpeed whether it's the plug or a port). The "device" (plugs into the phone/tablet/drive) is a USB 3.0 SuperSpeed connector. If you have an older USB "Micro" connector from an older device, you'll notice part of the 3.0 connector is a twin. This info will be helpful for the times you've lost access to your 3.0 cable and only need to recharge your device (you'll get a nag screen abt data speeds, but I'd only advice using it as a last resort charge cable). The additional connection (not a separate end, they're a single connector) is what gives you the higher data throughput. Hope I've been helpful, without going too far into the "nuts and bolts" of everything. Blessings 🙏🙏🙏 |
Question: | Does the 6 foot cable charge at full speed or is it slower than the 3 foot cable |
Answer: | YES IT WILL CHARGE ABOUT THE SAME AS A 3 FT CABLE |
Question: | Has anyone tried these on the new Galaxy S |
Answer: | It should work on the S5, I bought 2 for the Note 3. Dont buy this one thou its very slow charging, but the Amazon basic version, it works perfect. I've bought 2 of this one and 2 of the Amazon Basic and the cable maters was a total waste. |

User questions & answers
Question: | can the 90 degree clip side be used in the ssd or does it only work in the motherboard |
Answer: | Normally, the 90 degree end goes to HD or SSD. On the motherboard, SATA connectors are placed close together making use of the 90 degree end limited, but possible. |
Question: | Just bought a samsung 850 evo 1tb 2.5-inch sata iii internal ssd for my gaming tower, should i buy the straight or 90 degree angle cables? thanks |
Answer: | If you are planning to install the solid state drive with the sata connector facing one of the side panels then you probably want a 90 degree because a straight will have trouble making that bend. A lot of newer cases have alternative mounting places where a 90 degree angle cable wouldn't work. Basically it depends where the drive is mounted. |
Question: | What is the difference between Right 90 or Left 90? when it comes to applying 2ND hard drive for PC Backup only |
Answer: | This would depend on how you are mounting the drive - if it would be in the case, then if it's mounted to the left or right (long-ways on the motherboard connection) is how you would determine which 'bend' you want. If you are mounting externally, then you would want the bend to work out so that the drive would not be upside down. |
Question: | Is this all i need for a hardrive? Cable wise |
Answer: | Depends. Is it an internal hard drive or external? These cables are for internal mounted SATA hard drives & SSD's (Solid State Drives). If your drive is internal, you will also need to power the drive from the power supply (PSU), so make sure you have an extra hard drive power cable coming from your PSU; it can be either the old style bigger 4 wire kind or the newer SATA power connector, unless your hard drive only has the new power supply connector (it looks like the end of these connectors, except it is a little wider). Smaller 2.5" drives (laptop size drives) usually only have the SATA type power connector; and the older 4 pin connectors are probably being phased out, though they are not extinct yet. These cables work for SATA I, II & III; the difference between I, II, & III is speed: I maxes at 1.5 Gb/s. II at 3Gb/s, III at 6Gb/s; both the HD and the motherboard SATA types will be rated at one of these three speeds. It is best to match speeds, but not absolutely necessary; mismatched speeds will work (they just won't be as efficient - e.g. hooking a SATA III drive to a SATA II mobo slot will work, but the potential max data transfer speed will be limited by the slower connector.. theoretically). Make sure your HD is SATA (I, II or III) - not eSATA (external SATA) USB, Firewire, TB (thunderbolt) or any of the newer formats like SATA express, PCI express or M.2 (if it is not an SSD, you can probably rule out the new formats). Check here for more info on drive types: https://rog.asus.com/articles/product-news/ssd-guide-pci-express-m-2-msata-and-sata-express-the-differences-explained/ ..or Google SATA, IDE (the older connector type), SATA express, mSATA, M.2, etc. The long answer: If your hard drive & motherboard were made in the last 5 - 7 years, and the drive is meant to be Internal (i.e. mounted inside the case - more importantly, hooked directly to the motherboard), then yes.. Well, you need to make sure you have an extra H.D. power connecter coming from your power supply (and your power supply needs to supply enough wattage to run everything in your system - a basic system with few internal peripherals can run on a P.S.U rated at 300 - 500 watts; if you have e.g. 6 hard drives, two high power graphics cards and an energy consuming CPU, you would need a P.S.U. rated higher - 650 - 1000 watts). There are also new SATA express PCI express and NVE M.2 Solid State Drives that mount directly in a slot on a motherboard - the PCI express and M.2 types don't usually need an extra power source but the motherboard has to have that kind of slot. It's a little like a PCIex1 slot, but not exactly. If you have a solid state drive and it looks a bit like a memory strip or a small video card, then it is some form of PCI express or M.2. If it looks like a laptop or desktop drive, it is most likely SATA, unless it is over 5 - 7 years old.. then it could be IDE (the older type that has a long data connector with a bunch of pins). |

User questions & answers
Question: | does it carry audio |
Answer: | DisplayPort and HDMI can carry audio, VGA can not. A separate audio line is required anytime you use a VGA connection regardless if you start with a DisplayPort or HDMi output. |
Question: | Is the VGA version a active adapter |
Answer: | This is NOT an active adapter. I don't know why Cable Matters answered the question saying it is. If you go to Cable Matters website, all their active adapters are clearly labeled as "Active". The web page for this particular adapter does not claim it is active any place on the page (https://www.cablematters.com/pc-181-154-cable-matters-displayport-to-vga-adapter-dp-to-vga-adapter.aspx). I had two of these adapters that I used on a Dell E-Port Replicator and they worked great. When I got a new work laptop that came with a Dell TB 16 Thunderbolt Dock, these adapters would not work (Monitors constantly flickering and disconnecting). Switching to active adapters fixed the issue. |
Question: | Should this work with the Lenovo ThinkPad OneLink Pro dock |
Answer: | can this be used coming off the vga port on onelink dock using a vga cable to connect to DP port of monitor...using lenovo onelink to vga/rj45 adaptor coming off laptop, connected vga cable to adaptor to connect back to DP monitor |
Question: | is there a chord that could go from DVI to displayport |
Answer: | Yes you can get it as one of those as well my systems have one or the other in some cases |
