They aren't "technically" required, but with a vehicle harness you don't have to cut up your factory wires and look up wiring colors, with after-market harnesses you should (in all cases I've tested) just match up same wire colors and twist-tie (or solder) them together, easy-peesy, the hardest part is usually getting the radio out.

Answer:	8 Guage can only handle a few hundred watts or so RMS. You might be able to get a 5-channel system that uses 700W RMS to be properly powered BUT that's probably right around the peak for this gauge of wire. That being said, BOSS WILL NOT WORK FOR THAT. Boss uses garbage materials and typically only deliver 1/3 of what they say they are delivering. I've seen the tests with my own eyes with wiring and amps and they fall apart. Don't wire anything more than 100W RMS or so total with this kit or you might melt it.
