5 best nikon telephotos

Nikon is a well-known manufacturer of camera lenses, including telephoto lenses, that cater to a wide range of photography needs.Telephoto lenses are a popular choice for various types of photography, including wildlife, sports, and portrait photography. Here is some information about Nikon telephoto lenses:

  1. Types of Nikon Telephoto Lenses:

    • Prime Telephoto Lenses: These have a fixed focal length and are known for their exceptional image quality and wide apertures, making them ideal for low-light situations and achieving a shallow depth of field (background blur).
    • Zoom Telephoto Lenses: These lenses offer variable focal lengths, allowing you to zoom in and out. They are versatile and suitable for capturing subjects at various distances.
    • Super Telephoto Lenses: These are extremely long telephoto lenses often used for wildlife and sports photography. They provide substantial magnification, but they can be quite large and heavy.
  2. Aperture: Nikon telephoto lenses come with different maximum aperture sizes. A wider aperture (e.g., f/2.8) allows more light to enter the lens, making it suitable for low-light conditions and achieving a beautiful background blur (bokeh).

  3. Image Stabilization: Some Nikon telephoto lenses feature image stabilization technology, which helps reduce the effects of camera shake when shooting at slower shutter speeds or using long focal lengths.

  4. Compatibility: Nikon telephoto lenses are designed to be compatible with Nikon DSLR and mirrorless cameras. However, it's essential to check compatibility with your specific camera model, as not all lenses may work seamlessly with every camera.

  5. Professional and Consumer Grade: Nikon offers a range of telephoto lenses, from professional-grade lenses with superior optical quality to more affordable consumer-grade options. The choice depends on your photography needs and budget.

  6. Specialty Lenses: Nikon also manufactures specialty telephoto lenses, such as tilt-shift lenses and defocus control lenses, which are designed for specific creative and technical applications.

  7. Accessories: When purchasing a Nikon telephoto lens, you may also consider accessories like lens hoods, filters, and protective cases to enhance your shooting experience and protect your investment.

  8. Nikon Lens Terminology:

    • Nikkor: Nikon's brand name for its camera lenses.
    • VR (Vibration Reduction): Nikon's image stabilization technology.
    • ED (Extra-Low Dispersion): Lenses with ED glass elements reduce chromatic aberration and enhance image quality.
    • Nano Crystal Coat: A lens coating that reduces ghosting and flare for better contrast and color accuracy.
  9. Price Range: Nikon telephoto lenses vary widely in price, from affordable options for amateur photographers to high-end lenses for professionals. The cost often depends on factors like the lens's focal length, aperture, and special features.

When selecting a Nikon telephoto lens, it's essential to consider your specific photography needs, budget, and the type of subjects you plan to shoot. Nikon's extensive range of telephoto lenses offers options for photographers of all levels, from beginners to seasoned professionals.

Question: How soft is this lens at 500mm? Whats the longest focal length where you keep max sharpness

Question: Is anyone using this with a DX
Answer: Works very good with 7200.........my go to combo for birds.
Question: will this lens work on a nikon d
Answer: I've mounted it and used it fine on a D3200, although it's hard to spot the camera body since the lens swallows it up! :)
Question: Is this lens compatible with the nikon d5000? i've been getting mixed answers. thanks
Answer: Yes this FX lens will work on any modern Nikon DX camera but it's not as simple as the answers I see provided. Yes the Lens effectively becomes a 350-750mm lens and for wildlife that is great but what you are not hearing about is that the effective aperture also goes up proportionately from 5.6 to a higher number. That decreases your depth of field. Second problem is that most people think the image will be sharper because your "using the center of the glass". This increased sharpness myth has been debunked and is not true! If you had a true DX lens of roughly the same quality and in the same focal range you would get a sharper picture from it on a DX camera. All I am saying is that your paying a lot of money for high a high quality lens that will not work as well as a true DX lens that would cost 1/3 the price. If you are sure that at some future date you will be moving to an FX camera then it's worth it, if not I suggest you do some reading and confirm what I am saying is true. There is an excellent video by Tony Northrup that explains and photographically demonstrates the gains and loses of using an FX lens on a DX camera.

User questions & answers

Question: Le queda a una Nikon D
Answer: Nikon provides a compatibility chart that shows the limitations (if any) with their lenses. I'll try and paste the link here, but if that does not work you can easily find the chart on the internet. http://www.nikonusa.com/en_INC/IMG/Assets/Common-Assets/Images/Teleconverter-Compatibility/EN_Comp_chart.html
Question: is the 18-140mm a wide angle lens
Answer: No, it won't. That lens is not on the compatibility list at nikonusa.com. There is another website that explains teleconverters in a fair amount of detail, and it doesn't list the 28-300 mm lens either. https://backcountrygallery.com/all-about-teleconverters-tcs/
Question: Will this len work with Nikon D
Answer: The D500 Yes. I don't know about the lens but Nikon could give you the answer.
Question: My certified refurbished lens arrived in bubble wrap without a box or warranty. Is this typical for a refurbished product
Answer: Does this teleconverter lens work with the Nikkor 18-300mm lens?
