5 best flash for canon slrs
Flash units for Canon DSLRs, often referred to as "shoe mount flashes" or "external flashes," are essential accessories for improving photography in various lighting conditions. These devices are specifically designed to provide additional and more versatile lighting options for Canon digital single-lens reflex cameras. Here's what you need to know about flash for Canon DSLRs:
Purpose: Shoe mount flashes are used to enhance and control lighting when taking photos with Canon DSLR cameras. They are especially useful in low-light conditions or when the existing ambient light needs modification.
Compatibility: Canon produces its own line of dedicated flashes that are fully compatible with Canon DSLRs. These dedicated flashes offer seamless integration and communication with the camera for advanced features.
Power: Shoe mount flashes vary in power output, with more advanced models offering higher power levels. This allows photographers to illuminate subjects at various distances and in challenging lighting situations.
TTL Flash: Many Canon flash units support TTL (Through-The-Lens) metering. This feature allows the flash to automatically adjust its power output based on the camera's metering and the scene's requirements, ensuring well-exposed images.
Swivel and Tilt: Most shoe mount flashes have a swivel and tilt head, which can be rotated and adjusted to bounce the flash off walls, ceilings, or other surfaces. This indirect lighting technique helps create more flattering and natural lighting for portraits.
Wireless Flash: Some Canon flashes have built-in wireless capabilities, allowing for off-camera flash setups. This enables creative lighting setups and the use of multiple flashes for more dynamic lighting effects.
Flash Modes: Shoe mount flashes typically offer various flash modes, including manual, automatic, and semi-automatic options, giving photographers full control over their lighting.
Zoom Head: Many flash units have a zooming flash head that can adjust to match the focal length of the lens. This ensures that the flash coverage is optimal for the scene.
Diffusion and Accessories: Accessories like diffusers, bounce cards, and colored gels can be added to the flash to modify and soften the light, providing different lighting effects.
Battery Power: Shoe mount flashes are powered by batteries, usually AA batteries. Some advanced models offer faster recycling times and longer battery life.
External Battery Packs: For professional photographers and enthusiasts who need rapid-fire shooting with quick flash recycling times, external battery packs are available to provide extra power.
Third-Party Options: In addition to Canon-branded flashes, there are third-party options available from companies like Yongnuo, Metz, and Godox. These flashes can be more budget-friendly while still offering many features and compatibility.
In summary, flash units for Canon DSLRs are versatile tools that can significantly improve the quality of your photography by providing controlled and adjustable lighting.Whether you're capturing portraits, events, or creative shots, a dedicated flash can be an invaluable addition to your camera gear.

Question: | Hi:will this flash compatible with canon rebel t7i ? thanks |

Question: | Any chance this hood will fit with the bay iii to 43mm step up ring on |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is there a way to power this via a DC wall adtpater instead of batteries |
Answer: | There is a side plug for power but the power cord is not included. |
Question: | Will this work on a Canon T6i |
Answer: | Yes. It doesn't work with some T7 because some early T7 didn't have the center pin in the hotshoe. T6 and newer T7 with the center pin will work |
Question: | Why does it turn my pictures white on my sony a |
Answer: | The Sony A7 has an advertised flash sync speed of 1/250 of a second. I don't own one but I've seen posts suggesting that some folks struggle to get it above 1/60th of a second. So when you use your flash, your camera may be forcing the shutter speed down to the maximum flash sync speed (1/250th or 1/60th of a second) WITHOUT OTHERWISE ADJUSTING YOUR EXPOSURE. So, say you're shooting outside on an overcast day and you want to use a fill flash. Without a flash maybe you'd be shooting at 1/1000th of a second or faster. With the flash you'd expect to shoot FASTER but, because of the slower flash sync, you're shooting slower. That slower speed means more light and that gives you a white image. To compensate, either use a filter to dim the entire scene or look into a camera with a faster flash sync speed. Unfortunately, faster is more expensive. |
Question: | Can this flash be fired by the Canon 60D internal flash control off camera |
Answer: | Yes. The 60D uses the Canon E-TTL flash system which fires a pre-flash to test exposure. You can set the TT560 to ignore this pre-flash. You won't get flash metering control via the camera, but it can trigger these flashes off camera. However, my own testing shows this flash only outputs 40% of the claimed power, so be aware of that issue as well. |

Question: | Is this flash compatible with the Canon EOS Rebel SL |
Answer: | I'm assuming its compatible with all canon dslrs. |
Question: | Thinking of using this as a backlight strobe slaved off a t4i. Will it have sufficient juice and recharge time for something like a headstshot shoot |
Answer: | I have both this flash and the 430EX, and I personally would not use this one for portraits unless I had no other option. It kind of depends on how you plan to use it? If you don't mind waiting or watching to make sure it is charged, then it would work fine. When I have done interior portraits I used a simple studio strobe setup and have used my 430EX in concert with these and it worked well, Recharge times on strobes are really pretty quick in comparison to either of these flashes, but the 430EX was fast enough for me. However, I have used my 270 EXII as a fill flash for outdoor portraits, and I was not satisfied. When I take portraits I like to try and capture the moment when a smile is good or when the look in the eye is just right or whatever and sometimes that requires taking the photos in quick succession. I had not been bothered or noticed any lag with the 270EXII prior to this so, when I recently wanted to get some outdoor portraits of my kids, I chose to bring it instead of the 430EX. I felt this was one of two mistakes I made that day. My second mistake was to not use fresh batteries and I found it very frustrating. Luckily I had new batteries, and I popped them in. This helped a lot, but I still found that when I used the 270EXII, I had to wait more than I would have liked, and I feel that I missed some shots and made everyone more frustrated because it took longer. I had several photos where I took the shot, but the flash was not recharged enough and did not fire (even with the new batteries). This was a learning experience for me and I will be bringing my 430EX in the future for this type of shooting. Always also have one or two sets of spare batteries as well.As for your question of having enough juice for a backlight strobe, I guess that would depend on your lighting scenario. I suspect that it would be fine for a highlight type of backlight. My 430EX definitely worked well in that scenario, but I have never tried the 270EXII. I am not as sure how well it would work for a backlight on the background. I have used the 430EX for that successfully, but seem to remember that it did not work as well as when I used the studio strobes (although I think some of that may have been more the light spread than the power). The 270EXII is even less configurable and powerful, so I would not do it unless I had no other option. if you are trying to decide on this or something like the 430, I would spend the extra money on the 430. If that is not an option and you want this flash for other reasons, than I suppose it would not hurt to try it as long as you understand the potential pitfalls.I hope this helps. |
