12 best bayite ferro rods
Bayite ferro rods are popular outdoor survival tools used for starting fires in emergency situations while camping, hiking, or engaging in other outdoor activities. These rods are known for their reliability and durability, making them essential tools for survivalists and outdoor enthusiasts.
Here are some key features and information about bayite ferro rods:
Ferrocerium Material: Bayite ferro rods are typically made from a combination of metals, including iron, cerium, and other rare earth elements. This special alloy is highly reactive to sparks and friction, making it excellent for fire starting.
Sparks and Ignition: When you strike the bayite ferro rod with a sharp edge or striker, it creates a shower of hot sparks that can reach temperatures of around 3,000°C (5,432°F). These sparks are capable of igniting a variety of tinder materials, such as dry leaves, cotton balls, or specially designed fire-starting tinder.
Waterproof and Weather Resistant: Bayite ferro rods are designed to be waterproof and weather-resistant, ensuring they can still function even in wet conditions. This makes them suitable for use in rain, snow, or high humidity environments.
Longevity: These rods have a long lifespan, as they can produce thousands of strikes before needing replacement. This longevity makes them a cost-effective choice for survival kits and outdoor gear.
Portability: Bayite ferro rods are compact and lightweight, making them easy to carry in your backpack, pocket, or survival kit. They are a reliable backup for starting fires when matches or lighters are unavailable.
Safety: Using a ferro rod is generally considered a safe method for starting fires, as it doesn't involve the use of open flames or potentially hazardous chemicals.
Versatility: Bayite ferro rods can be used in various situations beyond camping and hiking. They are valuable tools for emergency preparedness, bushcraft, wilderness survival, and even in everyday outdoor cooking.
To use a bayite ferro rod effectively, you'll need a suitable striker or sharp-edged object, such as a knife spine, to generate sparks. It's essential to practice fire-starting techniques beforehand to ensure you can confidently use the ferro rod in an emergency situation.
Overall, bayite ferro rods are trusted and reliable fire-starting tools, valued for their durability, weather resistance, and long-lasting performance in outdoor and survival scenarios.

Question: | What do you suggest for the striker? The back of a pocket knife? Can a hard stone be used? What type of "striker" does this need |
Answer: | I wouldn't use the back of a pocket knife. It could close on you at the wrong time. OUCH! Some still advocate using a knife's blade as a striker. A little tough on the blade but an effective striker, nonetheless. If I only had a pocket knife, I'd use its (sharp side of the) blade as a striker. Ideally, you'd have and would use the back of a fixed blade knife or a dedicated (store bought or home made) striker. This striker is drilled. Attach a lanyard & a small striker & it'll always be ready to go. |
Question: | What does Each rod weigh |
Answer: | The weight of one 1/2" x 5" ferro rod is approx 115g. |
Question: | Is this ferrocerium all throughout the bar? I’ve seen some where the core is just steel and only a thin outer layer will make a spark |
Answer: | I could be wrong but I think you might be having a problem with smooth pressure if you use a knife with a sharp spine you will have more leverage to apply the pressure I don't think any ferro rod has a solid steel bar inside they all should spark all the way through some are softer than others though and I think the softer ones have more magnesium this one is hard |
Question: | they" recommend the use of a "art knife" as a striker -- what is a art knife |
Answer: | Don't know what an art knife is but THE BEST thing i have found to use for a striker is a 3 inch piece of either a hack saw blade or sawzall blade, use the edge of the SMOOTH side of the blade at a slight angle (press against it hard). practice with it you'll get it,, and it will shower sparks !!! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does it come with a striker |
Answer: | Our feeders are about four to five feet off the ground but we don’t have feral cats. The squirrels are faster than our dogs and we always make it a point to be out with the dogs to avoid problems. |
Question: | How do they perform if wet |
Answer: | No. Ingredient list is: Corn, Black Oil Sunflower seeds , Peanuts, Whole Peanuts. I have squirrels, rabbits and several bird varieties that enjoy it in my yard. |
Question: | Is this a hard, medium, or soft ferrocerium rod? What's its magnesium content |
Answer: | It says it's American made. So yes it is made in the U.S. I live in the U.S. And I feed it to my back yard wild life. The squirrels, chipmunk, birds and deer gobble it up! I watch squirrels eating it for hours! I put it out in the morning before I go to work, and most of it is gone when I get home. By the next morning it is all gone, so I put more out. When I am home for a day, I put it out in the morning, and within a few minutes the squirrels are there to eat. |
Question: | Just to be sure, when you strike this item with a knife it will creat sparks |
Answer: | HiIt is a plastic type strong bag |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this firesteel fit the traditional loop on a sheath? Thank you |
Answer: | No. Please check this rod which comes with striker: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01I53VRVO |
Question: | Does the firesteel fit in a standard sheath loop? Thanks |
Answer: | Water has NO effect on the rod itself, other than causing the exposed material under the black protective coating to corrode and dissolve if left wet for a very prolonged period. Really no different than regular metal rusting over time if not protected with oil/paint/etc. The beauty of ferro rods is that they work in ANY condition; subzero temperatures, torrential rain, high altitude, etc. However, your tinder must be dry and properly prepared for it to ignite from the sparks of the rod. If you're in a marine environment or a place with high humidity, you can simply use a light coating of spray paint on your rod after use to prevent corrosion. On your next use, simply scrape through the paint to expose the bare metal, and then scrape your sparks as usual. |
Question: | How long is the actual ferro part of the rod not covered by wood |
Answer: | It's hard version. But works great. We also have the soft versioin: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01I53VRVO |
Question: | Is this product actually made in Germany or is it a Chinese product disguised by a German name |
Answer: | Ferrocerium does not require a particular edge material to strike sparks. That is a myth. Anything harder than the ferro rod will throw sparks. Just look on YouTube for 'strike ferrocerium with glass' and you'll get several examples of ferro rods successfully striking sparks with glass, stone and ceramic. Also, as has been said, NEVER use the cutting edge of a knife to strike sparks off a ferro rod. |
- Ferrocerium Rod Length:3.14"(8cm); Diameter: 5/16"(8mm)
- We drilled a 4mm Hole in the rod. And the rod comes with a Stainless Steel Wire Keychain. You can use it to keep product secure and together.
- Works in any conditions - rain, snow, high-altitude, ultra-durable. Made of rust-free ultra-strong ferrocerium rod. Provides up to 3000 degrees C spark in any weather, at any altitude. Durable.
- Striker lights up small piles of dry grass, paper, Hemp, and other flammables
- Search 'bayite striker', bayite 6 Striking Edges Striker-Pro striker is made from TOOL GRADE HSS STEEL and has a distinct hardness, maximizes a shower of hot sparks, no matter whether you prefer to use your left hand or right hand to scrape. Buy them together.
User questions & answers
Question: | What is the size when compared to the litemyfire brand army size (larger/smaller?)? i want to figure out if these will fit my ferro rod loop well |
Answer: | From just below the orange handle it’s 2 3/4 inches |
Question: | How different is it in performance compared to the Bayite Ferrocerium rod (the 6 inch length ,12.7 mm diameter one)with 9ft paracord |
Answer: | You can order 2 packs per order and you can place 2 or more orders on Amazon. You can order something other that you needed on Amazon. Free Shipping, If the total amount is over $25. |
Question: | Has anyone attached to a boot lace and then placed under the laces |
Answer: | No I use the spine of my knife but you can make a scraper out of a lot of things..... these are awesome rods and well worth the money |
Question: | do these come in a tin |
Answer: | I remove ALL the coating on my Ferris rods. Usually with sandpaper or similar. The the next thing to consider is what your striking it with. The spine of a knife works awesome, as long as it’s sharp. A broken piece of hacksaw blade, or similar. I’ve never had a ferro rod not work. I buy these all the time to teach wilderness classes. They work just fine after the learning curve.... hoot this helps |

Question: | What is the country of manufacturer |
Answer: | Yes it does |
Question: | Approximately how many strikes will it last |
Answer: | Great question, Our product is a single rope that is approximately 5.5 inches long and 1 inch in diameter. When separated a whole stick is made of 33 smaller strands and each strand will burn for 8 minutes. |
Question: | Can you scrape pieces of the rod into your kindling with the striker itself? Or only use it to strike |
Answer: | Yes it can! Black Beard Fire Starters were specifically designed to light with a spark from a ferro rod. |
Question: | Does it have magnesium |
Answer: | The company sells an excellent arc lighter that looks just like the much lower price on the Amazon app. I’d check and see that it has the same features, I have the Black Beard one, it works every time, floats, hold a charge and they claim 300 uses, I haven’t used it 300 times, but it’s holding its charge and worth the money. |
