Microscope slides are essential components in the field of microscopy, enabling scientists, researchers, and educators to prepare and examine specimens under a microscope. Here's what you need to know about microscope slides and their relevance to microscopy:
Composition and Types:
- Microscope slides are typically thin, flat, rectangular pieces of glass or clear plastic.
- Glass slides are the most common and offer high optical clarity, while plastic slides are lightweight and less fragile.
- Slides may have various dimensions, but the standard size is approximately 1 x 3 inches (25 x 75 mm).
Preparation of Specimens:
- Scientists and researchers use microscope slides to mount and prepare specimens for observation.
- This process often involves adding a liquid mounting medium or a coverslip to protect the specimen and provide a clear view under the microscope.
Applications:
- Microscope slides are used in various scientific disciplines, including biology, microbiology, histology, and pathology.
- Researchers use them to examine tissue samples, microorganisms, blood cells, and other small objects at high magnification.
Labeling and Identification:
- Proper labeling of microscope slides is crucial for tracking and identifying specimens.
- Labels typically include information such as the specimen's name, date, staining techniques used, and other relevant details.
Storage and Preservation:
- Slides are stored in slide boxes or slide racks to protect them from dust, damage, and contamination.
- Some specimens may require long-term preservation, and special techniques like slide sealing with wax may be used.
Quality and Cleaning:
- The quality of microscope slides is essential for obtaining clear and accurate images.
- Slides should be free of scratches, bubbles, or defects that could interfere with microscopy.
- Before use, slides are often cleaned with laboratory-grade solvents or detergents to remove contaminants.
Compatibility with Microscopes:
- Microscope slides are designed to fit the stage of compound binocular microscopes and other types of compound microscopes.
- They are often used in conjunction with objectives and condensers to focus and illuminate the specimen.
Photography and Documentation:
- Microscope slides can be used to capture images of specimens using a camera attachment or a digital microscope camera.
- This documentation is crucial for research and educational purposes.
Microscope slides are fundamental tools in the world of microscopy, enabling scientists and educators to explore the microscopic world and gain valuable insights into various biological and scientific phenomena. User questions & answers
Question: | Slides arrived damaged. Happy to send pictures |
Answer: | I think all you need to do is is go to your orders in your account and print off a return sheet and send back or just call customer service. |
Question: | Are the cover slips real glass or plastic |
Answer: | real glass |
Question: | Okay this is embarrassing but how do I open the little cube of cover glass slides. I have fiddled with it for 30m now and have zero clue how it opens |
Answer: | Gently grip the top & sides while holding your other hand beneath. It should slip off it's a cube inside another cube |
Question: | Is this 100 slides |
Answer: | No it is NOT! There are 50 slides and 100 covers. Very very misleading!! I bought these because they were the cheapest for what I thought was 100 slides, but I was duped. Buyer BEWARE! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is there room in the box to store additional slides |
Answer: | For future reference, I found only listings for Geosafari _JR_ Talking Microscopes. All the photos I could find for that model clearly indicate that Geosafari Jr slides are encased in some kid of plastic framework for use with only the Geosafari Jr Talking Microscopes. Silly? Yes I agree but Marketing rules. As such, IMHO regular slides (such as those in the AmScope set) will _not_ work in Geosafari Jr Talking Microscopes without heroic measures. |
Question: | Will this work with kids geosafari taking microscope |
Answer: | I thought 25 slides were more than enough just for entertainment with a microscope. |
Question: | Do you feel like the 25 slides are plenty? Or do you wish you had bought one with 50 or even 100 slides |
Answer: | Rachel: The list of slides is on the product description page on Amazon. You will find inside all 25 slides, each labeled and numbered, and a printed master list atop the foam insert that presses against the slides. The list is as follows:Specimen slides in the set are: Pine Leaf, Coprimus Mushroom Set, Sunflower Stem, Young Root of Broad Bean, Onion Epidermis, Tilia Stem, Pumpkin Stem, Lillium Ovary, Lillium Anther, Zea Stem, Nymphaea of Apustio Stem, Hydrilla Verticillata Leaf, Pine Stem, Dog Esophagus, Human Blood, Dog Skeletal, Muscle, Pig Motor Nerve, Rabbit Spinal Cord, Rabbit Testis, Dog Cardiac Muscle, Dense Connective Tissue, Housebee Mouth Parts, Honeybee Worker Leg-Composite, Hydra and Dog Stomach. This is a nice selection to start from. I was not disappointed and I taught biology for 30 years. |
Question: | what is inside here |
Answer: | It comes with a couple slides and they are probably counting them separately as well as the other little things that you would think mean one item. The items are very hard to get out of the case and are very poorly made with the exception of the microscope, although mine has a big black thing IN the shaft that I cant get out and blocks some of my view. |

Product description
Labvida Frosted Microscope Slides are made of super grade glass material which could meet higher transparency and more uniform thickness requirements.
Including 144pcs of Microscope Slides, White color frosted 1 end 1 Side, Dim.75mmx25mm, Frosted 1 end 1 Side, 45°Corners, pre-cleaned and ready for use.
White color frosted area of approx.20mm depth displays at one surface end for marking.
Storage:
Microscope slides should be stored in a dry place at constant room temperature, not directly on a floor.
Do not store slides and solvents together as the slide surface can turn hydrophobic. The frosting layer may fall off the glass where caustic condition are applied.
If the temperature is constantly warming and cooling, condensation may occur, which can cause sticking of the slides. Allow the slides to REACH room temperature prior to opening the cartons and using them.
Since soda Lime glass is subject to an aging process, we further recommend continuously rotating stock so the oldest slides are always used first, ensuring that all slides being used are of the highest quality.
After-Sales Service:
Labvida always persists in “Quality First, Customer First”.

User questions & answers
Question: | Where are the slides, covers, and dyes manufactured |
Answer: | First there are no indications on the box of contents where they were manufactured. Having said this, based on the company's profile I would wager they are manufactured in China. All they have state side are representatives but no manufacturing. |
Question: | What stain would you need to prepare a parasite slide |
Answer: | As a professional microbiologist ( college professor), I haven't done this in decades, but I'd recommend searching online as staining procedures are very specific for good reason. Timing , techniques for what we term "fuxation", order of staining, rinsing, are the results of many trials. You can try discovering your own pricedure, but you may find it frustrating -or not. One tip: even "pre-cleaned" micro slides need extra cleaning. Buy some Bon Ami cleanser (One of the soft scrubs will work in a pinch), and rinse the slide under running warm tap water. Sprinkle with Bon Ami powder on both sides, and gently scrub with your clean fingers. Rinse both sides. Drain, touching edge to clean, dry paper towel to assist drying. Then rinse with a few drops of 70% isopropyl rubbing alcohol the slide, and drsin and air dry. NOW your slide is clean and grease/oil free. Rinse cover slips under running warm water, then with the alcohol and allow to air dry. These steps will do much to ensure a good outcome to your slide prep work. |
Question: | The stains came as a dry concentrate but there are no directions as to how to dilute them, how do I do this |
Answer: | Add one shake/drop of powder to a teaspoon of water. This was our guesstimitation and it worked. |
Question: | how is the Eosin diluted |
Answer: | As a Medical Technologist, I can answer that question. Eosin and Methylene Blue are used to stain blood slides. First you make the blood smear, then fix it with an alcohol-based fixative, let it dry. Put the eosin on straight, do not dilute. Then rinse the slide with distilled water, put the methylene blue on, and rinse again. Each stain needs to sit on the slide about a minute, I like to leave them for two minutes. If you don't fix the slide first and let it dry, the blood will wash off. There were no directions included stating that the eosin had the fixative incorporated into it, so I bought separate hematology stains with the fixative included. Let the slide air dry before looking at it under your microscope. Use the oil-immersion lens and immersion oil for best viewing. |

The smartphone digiscoping clip will work with most current smartphones including models by iPhone, Samsung, HTC, LG and more. Thicker cases, like Otterbox style cases, may need to be removed before attaching the digiscoping clip.
