8 best olympus dslr camera

Olympus is a well-known brand in the world of digital cameras, particularly in the Micro Four Thirds mirrorless camera segment. While Olympus has produced a range of digital cameras, including point-and-shoot models and DSLRs, their DSLR cameras were part of the Olympus E-System series. Here's some information about Olympus DSLR cameras:

  1. Olympus E-System: Olympus DSLR cameras were part of the E-System lineup. These cameras featured the Four Thirds System, which was designed to provide high image quality while keeping the cameras relatively compact compared to traditional DSLRs.

  2. Image Sensor: Olympus DSLRs typically used Four Thirds image sensors, which are smaller than the APS-C sensors commonly found in many other DSLR brands. However, these sensors still delivered good image quality.

  3. Lens Compatibility: Olympus DSLR cameras used a specific lens mount designed for the Four Thirds System. Olympus produced a range of compatible lenses for their DSLRs, and third-party manufacturers also offered lenses for these cameras.

  4. Live View: Many Olympus DSLRs featured Live View, allowing users to compose their shots using the LCD screen instead of the optical viewfinder. This was a useful feature for both photography and video shooting.

  5. Image Stabilization: Olympus was known for its in-body image stabilization technology (IS), which was present in many of their DSLR models. This IS system helped reduce camera shake and allowed for sharper images, even when using non-stabilized lenses.

  6. Art Filters: Some Olympus DSLRs came equipped with Art Filters, which were digital effects and filters that could be applied to images in-camera. These filters allowed photographers to experiment with creative effects without the need for post-processing.

  7. Weather Sealing: Certain models in the Olympus DSLR lineup offered weather sealing, making them more rugged and capable of withstanding challenging environmental conditions.

  8. Compact Design: Olympus DSLR cameras were known for their relatively compact and lightweight design compared to traditional DSLRs. This made them appealing to photographers looking for a balance between portability and image quality.

Please note that Olympus announced in 2020 that they would be selling their imaging business to Japan Industrial Partners, effectively exiting the camera market. Olympus was no longer actively developing new DSLR models, but their mirrorless Micro Four Thirds cameras were still popular. The camera market is constantly evolving, so it's essential to check the latest updates and developments if you're interested in purchasing a camera from Olympus or any other brand.

User questions & answers

Question: Does the EM-1 Mark iii come with a flash
Answer: Probably they say that because the D7000 is a DX camera and the lens is FX. It is compatible with the D7000. It requires a motor in the body to focus. The D7000 has that. Some of the lesser Nikons such as D3000 series don't have that and require a focus motor in the lens.
Question: Does all the packaging utilize tamper-evident tape? My "new" kit appears used
Answer: Anything above 20 or 30 power will begin to get fuzzy. Anything above that and remain clear will cost you MONEY.
Question: Can you see through the electronic viewfinder in bright sunlight
Answer: I use my camera tripod and it fits just fine. I think that any adapter tripod mount should work if another size is needed.
Question: How does the evf compare with the mark ii? my understanding is that the mark iii has an oled evf, which should be an improvement on the mark ii's lcd
Answer: I have never tried to put filters on this. I use this scope with Iphone for zooming on wildlife. i suspect the best answer would be contact this company for complete specs and compatibilities.

User questions & answers

Question: Whats in the box
Answer: I'm sorry, I do not understand what you are asking. This is a digital camera, you can turn it on and shoot a picture in a couple seconds.
Question: Does it come with a battery and charger
Answer: No
Question: Will lens from the E-510 system fit and work on this body
Answer: I'm not sure about that, can't remember if it does or doesn't I have memory cards from a Evolt 300 (which did not come with memory card). if memory serves me correctly the Memory Card is purchase separately.
Question: Are all the items contained in the kit new? I mean they're in the box, with their manual and original accessories
Answer: you know...that 510 goes way back.... like 3 cameras back. I do not think it does. But won't swear to it. I moved on to Canon.
Question: Hi, how much time to use
Answer: An SD card. If you plan on making heavy use of Pro Capture, I've been very happy with this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07H9J1YXN/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Question: Is this camera better then the E500? never had a camera before and cant decide? also does it take videos? and does it come with the lense? please help
Answer: I use the Sandisk Extreme pro SDXC Memory Cards. The camera holds two cards. I use the 32gb size, two of them. I don't shoot video and I do not shoot in raw. You always have a backup card in the camera. You can save to both cards at once or have the cards switch when the first card fills up. I have had no issues using these cards. Hope that helps.
Question: question for camera spot does the camera come with memory card
Answer: Yes, mini flash FL-LM3. Watch Robin Wong review on FL-LM3 on YouTube.
Question: does this camera take video
Answer: Simple answer yes. Offers these formats Motions JPEG, Hign Definition (720p), Full HD (1080p) 4K Ultra HD (2160[ with a 16:9 ratio) and Cinematic 4K (C4K; 2160p with a 17:9 ratio, matches widescreen aspect used by digital cinema cameras ) in other words, video on this camera will do just about anything you want. The camera's HDMI port allows streaming directly into a computer giving a recording time only limited by the storage size (and camera battery). To record to an in-camera memory card the camera uses one of two formats, H.264 MPEG-4 AVC or Motion JPEG. In-camera recording is limited to 29 min segments or 4 GB. And if this is not enough every mode has additional custom video settings. Yeah, you can get lost in this camera for a long time learning all the aspects of just its video functions. Play and experiment that's the fun of having such an instrument, to begin with.

User questions & answers

Question: ib activation code what is it
Answer: Exactly what you see in the picture. There is a camera body, the kit lens, lens caps, a strap for the camera, manuals, coupons, and the camera bag which is rather nice. Oh, yes, an SD card too.
Question: Can you put filters on it? and what is the filter sizes that fit on it
Answer: Yes from Berger Bros it does
Question: What is the maximum sd storage size this camera will support? i have a 64gb sd. camera won't read card, but other devices will
Answer: The Olympus E-Volt E510 was a 4/3rds “SLR” camera, while this Olympus OM-D EM-10 mkIII is a Micro 4/3rds “Mirrorless” camera. The E-510 system has a mirror, while mirrorless cameras are thinner and are designed to mount lenses closer to the sensor. You need an adapter to add the space back in, and bridge the electrical contacts for autofocus and aperture control. Autofocus and autoexposure will work, but the focus system is a little different so you will get very sharp results with a great hit rate, but it will be a bit slower than on the E-510. A Micro 4/3rds lens on the OM-D EM10 will often focus faster than an E-510 with a 4/3rds lens. Micro 4/3rds is great! Because of the mount’s size and closeness to the sensor, almost any lens can be adapted to M4/3!
Question: Can I get close enough to take a picture of a 35mm negative on a light table? My lights are bright enough, I just need to get real close and be clear
Answer: Yes, all the items contained in the kit are new, including original accessories and manual.

Olympus Evolt E410 10MP Digital SLR Camera with 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 Zuiko Lens

Product description

Life is in the details, and the EVOLT E-410 was built to let you capture all of them. The Live View LCD is an uncommonly cool feature for a digital SLR. And when you experience the ergonomic feel and lightweight portability of this camera, youll want to take it everywhere. Whether the important details of your life are smiling faces or far-away places, youll capture pristine, detailed memories, thanks to a proven Dust Reduction System and powerful 10-megapixel imager.

EVOLT E410 Highlights

Innovative 2.5-inch Live View HyperCrystal LCD The E-410 offers ease-of-shooting and greater flexibility with the Live View LCD. Composing photographs is easier as subjects can be seen on the Live View LCD, which offers a wide 176-degree viewing angle. This enables images to be effortlessly taken from angles that would typically be difficult with a traditional optical viewfinder -- which is still the only option on many competing digital SLR cameras. Interacting with subjects, such as toddlers and pets, is also possible thanks to the Live View LCD, which enables pictures to be taken while holding the camera away from your face.

The E-410s big and bright 2.5-inch LCD display with approximately 230,000 pixels includes HyperCrystal technology, which offers many times the contrast of conventional LCD monitors, and enables images to be beautifully displayed in vivid color -- both in preview and playback. The HyperCrystal LCD also provides a wide viewing angle, which ensures images can be composed from even the most obscure angles. The larger LCD makes viewing icons and text on the cameras menu a squint-free process.

Coupled with the underwater housing, the Live View LCD also makes underwater photography easy, where looking through a traditional optical viewfinder is extremely inconvenient.

Detailed, bright, and colorful photos with 10-megapixel Live MOS image sensor The E-410 is loaded with an impressive 10 million pixels for high-resolution photos. The 10-megapixel sensor gives users the flexibility to blow-up their prints to the large sizes supported by many of todays printers, or crop the image to print only a part of the image that is important to them. The high-performance Live MOS image sensor in the E-410 delivers excellent dynamic range for accurate color fidelity, and a new state-of-the-art amplifier circuit to eradicate noise and capture fine image details in the highlight and shadow areas.

Dust Reduction System for spot-free images Olympus proven Dust Reduction System produces spot-free photos with the exclusive Supersonic Wave Filter. The patented ultrasonic technology vibrates to remove dust and other particles from the front of the image sensor and captures it on a special adhesive membrane every time the camera is turned on. These spot-free photos liberate users from hours spent retouching photographs at the computer or sending their cameras back to the manufacturer to remove dust trapped inside.

TruePic III for image clarity Olympus enhanced TruePic III Image Processor produces crystal clear photos using all the pixel information for each image to provide the best digital images possible for every photo with accurate color, true-to-life flesh tones, brilliant blue skies and precise tonal representation in between. TruePic III also lowers image noise by one step to reduce noise in images shot at higher ISO settings, enabling great results in low-light situations.

Underwater photography An optional underwater case (PT-E-03), five lens ports and a flash housing enable adventurous photographers to capture the delights of the aquatic world down to depths of approximately 131 feet (40 meters). The EVOLT E-410s Live View mode makes digital SLR photography a breeze for both the first-time or experienced underwater photographer.

Easy-to-use, easy-to-handle light and ergonomic design The EVOLT E-410 is extremely portable, measuring 5.1 inches (129.5mm) by 3.58 inches (91mm) and 2.1 inches (53mm), excluding protrusions, and weighing 13.4 ounces (380 grams) body only. The new camera has a classic penta-mirror design that is light and compact enough to comfortably shoot with all day. Beyond its portable size, the E-410 delivers unparalleled ease of use -- from menus that make sense and buttons on the body that are easy to understand and operate, to automatic settings for every imaginable situation.

While the E-410 includes a full range of manual control options to customize your creativity, it also has 30 shooting modes designed to provide the ideal settings for a variety of shooting situations automatically. These include Digital Image Stabilization, Night Scene, Fireworks, Beach and Snow, Underwater, and Candle Light to name a few, as well as an xD Panorama mode (for use with Olympus xD-Picture Cards). Users also benefit from special color modes and the possibility to apply a variety of Black & White filters.

A new high-power rechargeable battery is included with the E-410 so that users can keep shooting for extended periods. Accepting both CompactFlash Type I & II, Microdrives, and xD-Picture Cards, the camera provides a choice of data storage options for enhanced flexibility, and it is possible to transfer image files from one card to the other right inside the camera.

Included 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 Zuiko lens The E-410 one-lens outfit includes a compact, Zuiko Digital ED 14 - 42 mm f3.5 - f5.6 lens (equivalent to 28mm - 84mm in 35mm photography) that perfectly matches the imager so light strikes the sensor directly to ensure rich, accurate colors and edge-to-edge sharpness. Its 3x ED Glass zoom lens covers the range most frequently used in everyday photography and weighs just 7.5 ounces, offering users an extremely dynamic, portable everyday-use zoom. Close-ups as near as 9.84 inches (0.25 m) are also possible throughout the zoom range.

All E-Series cameras support the Four-Thirds Standard whereby Olympus and various other manufacturers produce high-quality Four-Thirds-compliant lenses and accessories that are specifically designed for digital SLR image capture. Because the E-410 is part of the Olympus E-System, it is compatible with a large and growing range of Olympus E-System accessories to further enhance personal shooting styles and applications. This includes the full line-up of Zuiko Digital Specific lenses and flashes.

  • 10-megapixel CMOS sensor captures enough detail for photo-quality 18 x 24-inch prints
  • 2.5-inch Live View HyperCrystal LCD display
  • Exclusive dust-free technology for spot-free photos
  • TruePic III for superior image quality in all lighting situations
  • Lightweight ergonomic design; kit includes one 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 Zuiko Lens

User questions & answers

Question: What is the correct memory card to purchase for this camera, Olympus E-410, SLR camera
Answer: Hi Baku, the E-PL5 is a significant update. Higher ISO for low light shooting and he image quality is stellar as are all Olympus cameras, but please be aware that if you want to use the two lenses you mentioned you will need a micro 4/3rds to 4/3rds adaptor, since the PEN is a micro 4/3rds camera. I have the E-PL1 in addition to the E-520, and it is an amazing little camera. Also with an adaptor for the Olympus film camera you can use film lenses as well except you have to manually focus. The E-520 is five years old and while still a great camera technology has advanced so yes you should consider upgrading.
Question: Does it have Auto focus
Answer: Yes, same 4/3 mount as the e420. Unfortunately has largely been superseded by the micro 4/3 mount with more modern Olympus cameras.
Question: Will this be good to make YouTube videos and profetional adds
Answer: It appears that the cover is attached by a single spring loaded pin similar to a the pins on watch band links. I should think that Olympus has a part # for the door and a decent repair shop could install it for you.Irwin
Question: Does thia also have a built in flip up flash
Answer: Olympus IB is the software that comes with the camera, I did not find it very useful, but is intended for taking the pictures from de camera to your pc. Also lets you download new firmware to the camera but there is no new software for this camera in particular. To move the pictures from the camera to the pc you can copy and paste. Other models of Olympus admit GPS and that information can be modified using IB. Please excuse my english is not my ML.
Question: Would E-PL5 be considered a significant update? I have 70-300mm and 11-22mm lens that I still would like to use.Not sure if I need to upgrade
Answer: I find no threads for filters on the fixed lens. You might be able to put filters on it that have an outside rim offset like the lens cover, but keeping them from falling off would be difficult even if you could find such an arrangement. Nowadays most filter colors and/or effects can be added by photoshop or its equivalents, so they aren't worth the bother most of the time. There are exceptions, but for most picture taking those are not really applicable.
Question: are the lenses for the e520 Four Thirds Mount ? like the e
Answer: haven't used more than 4 gigs.
Question: rd access door on e
Answer: I'm a dentist and when patients come to me with analog xrays, I take pictures of all even the small ones for the digital record .I use a Sony N50 for that. The small dental xray is like a 35mm film but I can not get too close so I have to croop all the images.I just recived your cuestion so I did the exercise with the Olimpus SP 800 UZ and I can tell you it works.Even better because I can litteraly TOUCH the film when is on the xray viewer when I use the Super zoom function.Feel free to write again if you need more help and excuse my english.Richard Lenis D.D.S.

Evolt E420 Digital SLR Highlights

Worlds smallest digital SLR A camera designed to be held away from the face lets you take great photographs without weighing you down. The E-420 is small enough to fit into a purse or a jacket pocket and light enough to shoot with comfortably all day. Measuring 5.1 inches by 3.6 inches by 2.1 inches (excluding protrusions), it is the worlds smallest digital SLR. And at a featherweight 13.4 ounces, only its predecessor (E-410) weighs less. The E-420s new ergonomic grip on the front of the body allows for easier one-handed operation and ensures a secure hold in the most challenging shooting conditions.

14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 Zuiko lens included The Zuiko Digital 28-84mm equivalent (ED 14-42mm Four Thirds) f3.5-f5.6 lens perfectly matches the imager so light strikes the sensor directly to ensure rich, accurate colors and edge-to-edge sharpness. This lens are part Olympus expanding line of 100 percent digital lenses -- designed specifically for digital photography. Unlike other camera companies, Olympus does not rely on old film lenses, which often result in images with soft edges or other imperfections.

The Live View experience Olympus was the first to bring Live View to a consumer DSLR (the E-330 in 2006), and Live View has revolutionized DSLR photography. Anyone who has photographed young children knows that you get the best reactions when you hold the camera away from your face and maintain eye contact and an engaging smile. If you have tried to take photos high above the heads in a crowd or low near the ground, you will appreciate that it is easier to use a swivel LCD screen than to climb a ladder or lie on your stomach.

The E-420 solves these problems with its Live View LCD, which enables photographers to hold the camera away from their faces and at angles they just cannot reach by using the optical viewfinder alone. The E-420s new Live View autofocus functionality now simplifies the process by working just like a point and shoot. By simply pressing the shutter button halfway, your subjects come into focus on the LCD, so when the perfect moment occurs it is easy to capture sharp images.

A viewable LCD is where a great Live View experience begins. Few things are more annoying for a photographer than squinting to see an image on an LCD screen in bright sunlight or a dimly lit room. The E-420 solves this problem with its large, bright 2.7-inch LCD display that incorporates new HyperCrystal II technology. This display offers twice the contrast for better viewing in extreme light conditions (i.e. when the sun is at your back), a broader color gamut that displays a greater range of color detail, and a 176-degree viewing angle.

Always find a face in the crowd A camera this consumer-friendly is perfect for taking portraits of friends and family while out and about. The E-420s Face Detection feature distinguishes between peoples faces and the background. It tracks up to eight faces within the image area and automatically focuses and optimizes exposure for sharp, brilliant portrait pictures. Even if your subjects are moving, the camera continuously tracks their faces.

Bright day or deep shadow, never miss a detail Shooting scenes with shadows can be tricky because of the extreme contrast between dark and bright areas. The E-420 addresses this challenge with Shadow Adjustment Technology that compensates for extreme contrast when shadow areas are underexposed and lack visible detail. Now users can preview and capture images with the same fine contrast they see with their own eyes.

Preview all the possibilities With 18 pre-set scene-select modes for every imaginable shooting scenario and full manual controls, the E-420 offers a world of possibilities to photographers. Additionally, Perfect Shot Preview enables users to preview and select various photographic effects on a live, multi-window screen on the LCD before snapping the shot. This feature shows photographers what their images will look like beforehand under various settings, ensuring that they capture exactly what they want. It is an ideal way for novice users to learn about the effects of different photography techniques, such as exposure compensation, white balance and metering.

Enlarge your photos Capturing, enlarging and displaying amazing images on your wall is a snap thanks to the E-420s 10 million pixels for high-resolution photos. The 10-megapixel sensor gives users the flexibility to enlarge prints to the sizes supported by many of todays printers, or crop the image to print only a part of the image that is important to them. The high-performance Live MOS image sensor in the E-420 delivers excellent dynamic range for accurate color fidelity and a new state-of-the-art amplifier circuit dramatically reduces noise and captures fine image details in the highlight and shadow areas.

Improved auto white balance Many digital SLR users want to focus their attention on things other than white balance while they are on the move. As a result, the E-420 features an improved automatic white balance performance with a new algorithm for more accurate color.

TruePic III for image clarity and speed Olympus TruePic III Image Processor produces crystal-clear photos using all the pixel information for each image to provide the best digital images possible for every photo with accurate color, true-to-life flesh tones, brilliant blue skies and precise tonal representation in between. TruePic III also lowers image noise by one step to reduce graininess in images shot at higher ISO settings, enabling great results in low-light situations.

Worried about missing the winning goal at the soccer game? The image processor on the E-420 enables it to shoot up to 3.5 frames per second in sequenced shooting mode, which means that photographers will be able to capture fast-paced action as it happens.

Dust Reduction System for spot-free images Life moves too fast to spend time worrying about dust ruining your images. Olympus proven Dust Reduction System produces spot-free photos with the exclusive Supersonic Wave Filter.

Media versatility Accepting both CompactFlash Type I & II, Microdrives, and xD-Picture Cards, the E-420 provides a choice of data storage options for enhanced flexibility, and it is possible to transfer image files from one card to the other right inside the camera.

Wireless flash capability If you decide to venture into the arena of advanced lighting, the E-420 is ready to meet the challenge. The E-420 is compatible with the Olympus FL-50R and FL-36R wireless electronic flashes that are designed exclusively for digital photography. When these flashes are used in combination with the E-420, wireless multi-flash photography is possible. The E-420 can control up to three wireless flash groups independently, with several flash units per group.

Olympus Evolt E-420 Digital SLR: Highly Recommended (just) by dpreview.com

The Olympus E-420 is the most 'junior' member in Olympus line of digital SLRs. It was announced on the 5th March 2008, exactly one year after the launch of its predecessor, the E-410. Like the E-410 it comes with a 10 megapixel resolution, live-view and the SSWF dust reduction system; and like its predecessor at the time it is also the currently lightest and smallest digital SLR on the market, especially if you combine it with the Olympus Zuiko 25mm pancake lens that has been launched at the same time. All in all the E-420 is only a relatively minor update but it does also incorporate a number of new features.

New features (compared to the E-410)
  • Larger, 2.7" LCD display (versus 2.5" on the E-410)
  • Contrast detect autofocus (with select lenses)
  • Face detection in live view mode
  • Auto Gradation (Dynamic Range enhancement)
  • Faster continuous shooting speeds (3.5 vs 3.0 fps)
  • Improved right hand grip
  • Perfect Shot Preview
  • Wireless flash control

User questions & answers

Question: I'm new to DSLR cameras and bought this one not too long ago and I can't seem to get good night pictures even while on manual/ Any advice
Answer: As a former user of the E-5, unless you have a stock pile of 4/3 glass, you're better off moving on or using that glass on the EM1 or EM1ii.
Question: I have older Olymus Zuiko lenses. Does this camera have the ability to use older lenses or do I need to purchase an adaptor
Answer: As far as I know, it is only a still shot camera you would need a video camera as well. The only instance of still and video combo that I have seen is in video cameras, smart phones and tablets. I don't think they have put video in 35mm cameras yet but they're probably working on it,
Question: Is there a microphone imput
Answer: I purchased the Olympus flash made for the camera. No issues. It. Has been OK.
Question: what exactly comes in the box with the camera? I can't see it described anywhere
Answer: All adjustments are in camera menu. I used it to take picture during a trip to /Alaska using semi-pro lens and I was well satisfied. I even have one picture where it was able to stop a diver in mid air. Body wise it is a little clunky by todays standard, however it still takes good pictures. Maybe I was lucky and got a good one.
Question: Does thia also have a built in flip up flash
Answer: As far as I know, no, it is a still picture camara oniy. If you have a camara store nearby, take it in they're usually pretty good with answering questions re your equipment. Don't go to Best Buy, they wouldn't know. Wolf Camera or something similar is better.
Question: Would E-PL5 be considered a significant update? I have 70-300mm and 11-22mm lens that I still would like to use.Not sure if I need to upgrade
Answer: What do you exactly mean with "add an E-5 to E1/E-3 + glass"?
Question: are the lenses for the e520 Four Thirds Mount ? like the e
Answer: If you are using autofocus, it may seem that there is a slight delay as the camera acquires focus then the shutter activates. Once focus is locked, there is no delay that I am aware. When using manual focus, there is no delay as the camera does not attempt to confirm focus.
Question: rd access door on e
Answer: This camera is no longer available.
