Question:	works with small insects
Answer:	The field on this microscope in bottom lit. So you can see anything that the light can shine through. It will also illuminate small insects, their wings, legs etc. Quite alot of the body of the insects are translucent, so you can see inside the bodies etc. I have also looked at blood samples (my own) and it shows the blood cells, and white cells and other scary little critters swimming around in there. I had a microsocpe i gave to my grandaughter that also had a light that shinned from above. This would be nice to have on this one, but does not. with a top light you could look at objects that the light will not shine through. I especially like the camera/computer hookup. I hook it to a 32 inch tv and it gives a great picture of the object and you can take moving videos of little critters, like in pond water, or even small blood samples. the camera and software came with the scope i bought. this scope has four lenses. i use the lowest and next highest the most. that is the .4 and the 10 (which are then magnified by the optical by which ever lens you put in. this scope came with two options. The third lens is a 40, i have a little trouble focusing with this one, you have to get really close to the object, so make sure you use a cover on the slide over the object so you don't get stuff on the lens. And the fourth lens is oil emersion, a small bottle of oil comes with the scope. I think if i where doing it again i would try to find one that is both bottom and top lit. Not sure how that effects the price. Over all very happy with the quality of the scope, I would give it a 9.5 on a scale of 10. Have fun.

Answer:	No, you cannot use this microscope to view gemstones, or any solid object (at least not in a way that will be useful). There are two main types of microscope - compound, and stereo. A compound microscope, like the AmScope B120C-E1, is designed to look at translucent samples - drops of pond water, thin slices of tissue, and so on. Light is shined up through the sample and into the eyepiece, allowing you to see the cells/organisms in the sample. For viewing solid objects, you need a stereo microscope such as the AmScope SE400 (http://www.amazon.com/AmScope-SE400-Z-Widefield-Inspection-Microscope/dp/B005C75IVM). These microscopes are more like magnifying glasses on steroids, and use reflected light to illuminate the top of whatever you're viewing. Answer:	No. This microscope is for specimens that can allow light to pass through them. Rocks do not allow light wavelengths to pass through them. A polarizing microscope can be used to study thin mineral sections with rotatable filters that can be inserted into an instrument designed to receive them, but even these microscopes cannot resolve individual crystal structures. To accomplish that, it is necessary to use an electron microscope and take pictures of the X-ray diffraction patterns made by the specimen, then analyze the X-ray pictures to determine the crystal structure.

Answer:	been a while since I have used mine, however, connect power cord to wall, or use 4 AA batteries, then I turn lights on, and push and hold screen power button. after that, this is a "touch Screen" so there are hidden commands that you can pull up by touching the lower or upper "edge" of the screen. they will come to view then. did your microscope come with a manual (about 4 pages in english, the rest is all other languages) ?

Answer:	Like others, I have a different model (44345), but all models are pretty much the same, Mine is listed as a 5mp, but there are doc's listing it as 2mp and others as 5mp, You will replace the objectives! so don't buy it for them. The top LED is trash not bright enough for anything I have found! The unit has a auto focus and white balance with no way adjust or shut it off.So in the beginning it was almost useless to me, I added better Objectives and then discovered I could over power the auto light adjust. The cost of Microscope light are VERY high, so I added a Sewing machine LED lamp about $100 cheaper.I use it for insects, I have to trick it to get a good Pic, I flood it with light then turn down the base light with the disk (to almost blocking the light). Also it readjust the light after ever pic.I am getting what I need to complete the job.The Base stand is nice, I got mine at Fry's

For Best Results:

1. Place the base of the microscope flush against a flat viewing surface
2. Ensure the LED lighting is switched on
3. Start focusing on the lowest magnification setting (60x)
4. Once you have a clear view of your subject, increase the magnification to your desired level (you may need to slightly adjust the focus again slightly)

A note on using the MicroBrite Plus in the field: Due to high magnification, the focal distance of the MicroBrite Plus is very short (maximum of 2mm past the acrylic base). It is not possible to focus on subjects beyond this focal distance. Looking at larger, three dimensional objects or objects that are not on a flat surface takes practice and a steady hand, especially since small movements are exaggerated with higher magnification. This is why we recommend viewing flatter objects on a flat surface, especially when first using this microscope.

Features a Siedentopf binocular head that rotates 360 degrees for easy shared use and allows for quick adjustments to the eyepieces for different interpupillary distances without losing focus. The swiveling head can also lock in any position for additional stability. Ocular tubes are tilted at an ergonomic 30 degrees to reduce neck and eye strain. The microscope comes with two interchangeable widefield 10X and 25X glass ocular eyepieces, which pair with the four achromatic DIN objectives -- 4X, 10X, 40X(Spring), and 100X(Spring, Oil) -- in the rotating nosepiece to provide 6 magnification levels between 40X and 2500X. Coarse and fine focusing dials on both sides of the metal arm make fluid and exact precision adjustments.

For specimen viewing, an LED bulb beneath the stage transmits light up through an industry-standard Abbe condenser with 1.25 aperture and an iris diaphragm. Manually move the condenser closer to or farther from the stage to adjust brightness and evenness of light as well as image contrast. A metal slide holder locks specimens into place for viewing on the sizeable double-layered mechanical stage. An x-y translational control knob moves the stage and the slide holder left-to-right and front-to-back, eliminating the need to re-clip slides in order to view the entire specimen.
