Answer: | Yes the EX8000 used as a wifi extender you have the option of having a guest network. You can use same SSID name as your main router or use a different SSID altogether. I did have issues with more than one extender on the same network using same SSID name as main router so I had to change one of the extenders to a different SSID. |

From the Manufacturer
The Terk Technologies LF-IRX Leapfrog Remote Control Extender can control virtually any household device that is operated via infrared remote control, including satellite receivers, personal video recorders, VCR's, CD players, stereo receivers, tape decks, and other components.
Leapfrog, the industry leader in multi-room audio/video transmission products, introduces a line of remote control range extenders. The extenders convert the infrared signal from a standard remote control into a long-range RF radio signal, allowing components to be controlled from virtually anywhere in the home without the need for additional equipment or wiring.
Remote control extenders allow owners of satellite systems to control a single receiver from any room in the home, creating an instant multi-room solution. Simply network any TV set in the house to the receiver, set up the appropriate remote control extender, and enjoy the show. Remote control extenders put the full functionality of your satellite remote control right at your fingertips, at a fraction of the cost of a new receiver and multi-satellite dish.
Remote control extenders use the 418 MHz frequency band to command components through any obstacle, including walls and floors. User questions & answers
Question: | Does "triple infrared extension" mean three cords and emitters, one to each controlled device? Do you have to use the extender |
Answer: | If I remember right, it's one cord with 3 emitters at the end. (It splits into 3 so you can place them in front of different components.) I do recommend using the emitter - trying to point the receiving box at the components didn't work nearly as well as hiding it behind everything and running the emitter cable directly in front of the component to control. I had great results with the transmitter in my bedroom and the receiver in the living room behind the TV with the emitter cable running under my TiVo from behind and ending up on the shelf directly in front of the TiVo. (I had 2 tvs fed from the same TiVo one in each room) |
Question: | I have two set top boxes each on a different TV, can I have two separate Terk extenders one for each wihin the same 50 foot area |
Answer: | I would not buy this thing. Cheap. And it does not work at all. |
Question: | Does this operate over RF and will it worth through walls |
Answer: | RF is the communication link between the two. The Infrared Remote detecting unit converts to RF. The receiver unit receives the RF and converts it back into Infrared. The Infrared emitter device of this receiver unit, when positioned properly, will address the intended equipment. This RF will travel through most walls; however, if a metal wall separates the two, the performance would likely be impeded. In my case, I used the system in a typical home ( wood studs & sheet rock). The separation between the two units was about 40 feet (with a bedroom and a bathroom between the units). It continues to work flawlessly in this application. |
Question: | Do you have to do anything with the existing batteries in the remote |
Answer: | No, you will still use your same remote, not battery changes are needed. It just helps strengthen the signal. I bought it because our Suddenlink remote would not work unless the cabinet doors were open. It has been a great solution! |
