10 best speaker cable with banana jacks
Speaker cables with banana jacks are commonly used in audio systems to connect speakers to amplifiers or receivers. These cables are known for their convenience and reliability in delivering high-quality audio signals. Here are some key points about speaker cables with banana jacks:
Banana Jacks: Banana jacks are a type of connector used to terminate speaker cables. They feature a cylindrical plug with a spring-loaded, banana-shaped tip. These jacks are popular because they provide a secure and low-resistance connection, making them ideal for audio applications.
Compatibility: Banana jacks are compatible with a wide range of audio equipment, including amplifiers, receivers, and speakers that have corresponding binding posts or sockets designed to accept banana plugs.
Conductivity: Speaker cables with banana jacks are often made from high-quality materials like copper or silver-plated copper conductors. These materials offer excellent conductivity, reducing signal loss and ensuring that the audio signal remains clean and clear.
Ease of Use: One of the primary advantages of banana plugs is their ease of use. They are simple to connect and disconnect, making them a preferred choice for both professional and amateur audio enthusiasts. Unlike bare wire connections, banana plugs prevent accidental short circuits and help maintain a neat and organized setup.
Banana Plug Color Coding: Some banana plugs come with color-coded rings or shells, which can be useful for easily identifying and matching the correct connections, especially in multi-speaker setups.
Soldering: While many banana plugs are designed for tool-free installation, some may require soldering the cable wires to the plug connectors for a more permanent and secure connection.
Cable Length and Gauge: When selecting speaker cables with banana jacks, consider factors like cable length and gauge (thickness). Longer cable runs may require thicker cables to minimize signal loss. The gauge is typically measured in American Wire Gauge (AWG), with lower numbers indicating thicker cables.
Quality Matters: Investing in high-quality speaker cables can have a noticeable impact on audio quality. Look for cables that are well-constructed, use quality materials, and have good insulation to prevent interference.
Bi-Wiring and Bi-Amping: Some speaker cables with banana plugs are designed for bi-wiring or bi-amping setups, where separate cables are used for different frequency ranges or amplifier channels to potentially improve audio performance.
Price Range: The price of speaker cables with banana jacks can vary widely depending on factors like length, gauge, and quality. There are options available for various budgets, from budget-friendly to premium audiophile-grade cables.
In summary, speaker cables with banana jacks are a popular choice for connecting speakers to audio equipment due to their convenience, compatibility, and reliable signal transmission. Choosing the right cable for your setup depends on factors like cable length, gauge, and the overall quality of materials and construction.

User questions & answers
Question: | im trying to make my own test leads for different applications, will these work/fit with a voltmeter |
Answer: | Depends. It should fit as the multimeters use standard banana plug socket innerds, but for years commercial test leads have no longer used bare plugs because of the hazards associated with accidental contact which would be shockingly dangerous if working with high voltage (yes, these meters are routinely used in high voltage electrical applications - my meter carries a CAT III rating for use with 1000V, CAT IV for 600 V). BUT, I mainly use my meter on ham radio stuff and sometimes on cars - all low voltage DC applications.I just ordered these to make a current (amperage) test rig with Anderson Power Pole sockets. Again, I stress that I am working with voltage running significantly less than 30V (sometimes 24 V systems in aviation or other automotive systems), but I will wrap the plug bodies in heat shrink insulation to minimize likelihood of contact. |
Question: | I've read that these plugs can accept 12-18 AWG wire; however, I'd like to know what you all have used/what is working best |
Answer: | I use 12 gauge on my fronts and 14 on my surrounds with no issues. The 12 gauge was a little difficult to get wrapped back around and then screw down, but I really don't know of any banana plug that would we easier, without going to the kind where they use a screw to fasten. This is the easier, cleaner look in my opinion! |
Question: | The description says: "Can accept bare wire and spades. " How do you connect spades |
Answer: | As PCKIDZ replied, this is a two function connector. The banana plugs are pushed into the hole in the end.If you unscrew the barrel which is knurled, the smaller shaft is exposed, where you can slip on your spade lug and then tighten the knurled shaft to secure the lug. |
Question: | whats the differance between open screw and closed screw banna plugs |
Answer: | "Open Screw" type plug (side wire) allows for daisy chaining or stacking additional banana plugs to the back. This is desirable in DJ applications if you're running a speakers in parallel and if your amp can handle the low impedances. Closed Screw type has the wire at the back. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Do you have similar items with pin banana plugs instead |
Answer: | They split at 1ft while the rest of the length is connected. |
Question: | Is the 1/4 female adapter for stereo or mono input |
Answer: | If the Sony speakers have banana-plug style connections then you are 100% fine - these are perfectly good cables and very cost-effective. Beware there is a lot of nonsense out there about the audiophile quality of different cables...but within reason a decent gauge copper wire is what it is...you're good to go. |
Question: | What guage are the wires |
Answer: | Prime now! 3-6-20 |
Question: | What is the high-current application means |
Answer: | Hi, The banana plugs are soldered on, but you can cut them off and strip off the insulation to reveal bare copper if you need to connect to a speaker wire jack that does not accept banana plugs. |

Question: | this model with banana in angle 90 exist |
Answer: | Yes, you can cut it easily to make your connections. I have used many types of wire and I like how easy this wire is so easy to cut and trim as well as it lays flat and does not curl up. I have in the past straightened wire to make it lay flat, it can be a difficult job, but this was very wast to work with. Good luck on your project |
Question: | The image shows a male to male cable, however the description is male to female. Which is it |
Answer: | NO. You can't use any wires to hook up a stereo that will vibrate my house when you are two blocks away. But if you insist on doing it, use 22Ga wire. |

Answer: | Short answer, Yes, they are if you remove the set screw. Still can only attach one lead wire though. |
Question: | what size wire can these be secure to |
Answer: | They can be attached to any, big enough opening. Don't waste your money on these. Unless your going to solder them they are useless. Find some with 2 screws, you will be happier. |

Question: | Would these be a tighter fit on the back of my car receiver where i have 3 ( sets ) of rca outputs and of course 2 amps |
Answer: | You can't replace RCA plugs with banana plugs. Two different animals. RCA carries the signal in the center plug and ground on the outer portion. Banana plugs are just one connection, not two. |
Question: | Will this fit polk speaker t15 and t |
Answer: | Will fit any make speaker or receiver with with banana plug setup |
Question: | are these compatible with an early 1990's yamaha receiver and yamaha speakers |
Answer: | Possibly. It fits mine which is a Yamaha RX-V730 Av receiver. |
Question: | Is the body conductive? Is there a danger of accidental shorting out |
Answer: | I got home today and ohm'd them out. Yes they are conductive from the gold banana plug to the silver colored metal jacket. Again they fit pretty snug into the banana plug receptacles on the amp and they are far enough apart I'm not worried about them getting shorted. Unless your dropping metal on them or something like that they should be fine. |
