Answer:	The answer to this question has more to do with frequency than with power. This radio operates at the higher frequencies in the 2m and 70cm bands. Sometimes you can find long distance openings on 6m, but rarely if ever on 2m. This radio will be good for talking on local repeaters, especially if you get a decent antenna on it. If you are on a repeater that is linked through Echolink (through the internet) to a repeater in another country, then you can talk long distance. But the internet is covering the distance in that case, not the radio.

Answer:	According to the instruction manual, there is a VOX mode. (Voice Operated Transmission) The only way this function can be used is with a headset. Here is the word for word description from the book: "When you operate the VOX function, you must use an optional headset with microphone." There is an earpiece/mic included with the unit that has a jack matching the input jack on the unit. I have never used it so I cannot speak to it's capability. The unit works really well, so I would think that the "headset" would as well.

Answer:	You must have an amateur (ham) license to legally transmit with these in the US. Baofeng does not (yet) have a legal GMRS Part 95 radio for general use. They DO have a Part 90 business band legal radio though; if that's your intended use get one of those (and an FCC business band licence.)

Answer:	BaoFeng uses an SMA antenna connection but it is reversed from the normal SMA connections. Also, the hand mic/speaker is a two pin but the jacks are reversed as well. You will need either separate plugs or a plug from BaoFeng.
