3 best bentonites
Bentonite is a type of clay that is commonly used in skincare and beauty products, particularly in masks and treatments. It falls under the category of treatments masks and is often used for its beneficial properties for the skin. Here's what you should know about bentonite in the context of skincare and beauty:
Clay Type: Bentonite clay is derived from volcanic ash and is known for its highly absorbent and swelling properties. It is composed primarily of montmorillonite, a mineral known for its ability to absorb and remove toxins, impurities, and excess oil from the skin.
Purifying and Cleansing: Bentonite clay is often used in facial masks and treatments due to its purifying and cleansing properties. When applied to the skin, it can help draw out impurities, dirt, and oil from the pores, leaving the skin feeling refreshed and detoxified.
Exfoliation: Some skincare products containing bentonite clay may also offer gentle exfoliation. As the clay dries and tightens on the skin, it can help remove dead skin cells, promoting a smoother complexion.
Oil Control: Bentonite clay is beneficial for those with oily or acne-prone skin. It can help absorb excess sebum (skin oil) and reduce shine, making it a popular choice in masks designed for oil control.
Skin Irritation: Bentonite clay is generally considered safe for most skin types, but individuals with sensitive or dry skin may find it too drying or potentially irritating. It's essential to follow product instructions and not leave the clay mask on for too long.
Mask Formulations: Bentonite clay is often combined with other ingredients in skincare formulations to enhance its effectiveness and provide additional benefits. These may include soothing ingredients like aloe vera or moisturizing components.
DIY Masks: Many people also use bentonite clay as a key ingredient in homemade face masks. These DIY masks may include ingredients like water, apple cider vinegar, or honey to create a paste that can be applied to the face.
Detoxification: Bentonite clay is sometimes promoted as a detoxifying agent for the skin. While it can help remove impurities, it's important not to rely solely on skincare products for detoxification, as the skin's primary role is not detoxification but protection.
When using skincare products or masks containing bentonite clay, it's advisable to do a patch test first, especially if you have sensitive skin, to ensure you don't have any adverse reactions.Additionally, follow the instructions provided on the product packaging to achieve the best results and avoid over-drying the skin.

User questions & answers
Question: | How is the flavor |
Answer: | There almost isn't a flavor, if anything a hint of clay. |
Question: | Us this sodium bentonite or calcium bentonite |
Answer: | On Yerba Prima.com, they state: "Studies have shown that maximum binding and removal of toxins occurs only with the rare naturally occurring sodium ion form of bentonite containing a specific range of exchangeable sodium ions." http://yerba.com/bentonite-pints-quarts/ It sounds as if sodium is the main ingredient even though Montmorillonite can contain both the sodium and calcium ions, some blends will contain a predominance of sodium. If sodium is a concern (because several diets limit sodium) you can find a calcium bentonite clay also offered on Amazon, but you have to specify calcium bentonite clay in the search box. Unless the clay specifies itself as calcium bentonite, it is likely to contain partial sodium or even a predominance of sodium bentonite. Yerba Prima explains the Montmorillonite it uses which is a high grade of bentonite clay on its web site, but does say it includes the sodium ions in the blend. If calcium as the main ingredient is important, look for ...Liquid Living Clay All Natural Calcium Bentonite Clay... on Amazon. |
