They are quite protective my son was getting red marks and irritation from his seatbelt straps but since I started using these he is very comfortable and there is no digging into his skin from the straps.

The "travel" noted in description, refers to light duty, compact, easy to pack and go, short-term seating. This is not a car seat. It must be strapped to some type of sturdy chair. My grand baby is 30 pounds and tries to lean sideways, this type of booster will not take much of that because of the material from which it is made.
