Answer:	I'm a retired auto electrician, the device probably uses the vehicle's 12 volts to power it, speaking from experience most 12 volt devices like your car radio will function down to about 8 volts, that being said it might still function at 6 volts, as for the higher voltages I'm pretty sure it will reach at least 24 volts because some 18 wheelers run at 24 volts, I hope this was helpful to you, I have one in my Ford Ranger and it's worked flawlessly for over a year now, only one small problem is it tends to work it's way out of the socket from time to time and I need to apply pressure to insure it is all the way into the socket!

Answer:	If you really need to measure extremely low resistances accurately, you can get a power supply that you can set for a constant current of 1A, and put it through your test load. Then put your meter in the DC millivolt range and read across the load. It will display the resistance in millohms, so a reading of 100 mV would correspond to 0.1 ohms. Few people need to measure such small resistance values, but some specialized things like coils and inductors have test specifications down in those ranges.
Question:	Help. i have a short or bad ground somewhere in my automobile, battery and alt new - i think wires going to the pcm. will this help identify? thanks
Answer:	This is called a parasitic draw and a multi step process can isolate it down to a single component. You start with checking the draw on the battery. Remove the negative terminal and set the meter to 10 AMPS with the black lead plugged into the the COM connector female on the bottom and the red plugged into 10 amp female on the far left. Clamp the black lead to the negative battery cable connector that you removed and touch the red lead to the negative terminal. If you get a reading higher than a quarter of an amp you the battery is discharging and depending on the draw it will run down over night. A tip: Make sure everything is off in the car by closing the doors and removing the bulb from courtesy engine compartment light. If the bulb is inaccessible just duct tape the switch down. Also if you entered the car to pop the hood you should wait for the computer to go back to sleep - about 20 minutes - before running the test. If there is a draw you should start isolation by pulling fuses - when you pull the right fuse the reading will drop to 1/4 amp or so. The fuse fronts a wiring harness bundle and you can see what circuits it is protecting on a schematic - first thing to check are switches on the bundle and any after market additions to the harness. Most times it will be an open switch but a poor installation of additional lights or accessories is also a high suspect spot for a short. If a switch replace it or even just open it (turn it off). If a short you need to isolate the individual circuit on the harness bundle. Short isolation is a difficult time consuming task and rather than describe it I recommend that you watch this video on YOUTUBE. It is the best I have found for going all the way to the source of a short. Second tip is to have a helper with the fuse pulling and remember that some vehicles have 2 or 3 fuse boxes. Answer:	This is for measuring DC voltage and amperage. Not for 110 volts AC current.

Answer:	You do not need a switch to power the ammeter but you would need to disconnect the battery to avoid draining the battery when not in use. My choice was to add a small toggle switch so I wouldn't need to remove the 9 V battery each time I used the circuit. For me, it is just more convenient to flip the switch or push a push-button switch when needed.

Answer:	I don't know the temperature of a diesel engine. Here is the Operating temperature: -4°F - 140°F (-20°C - 60°C) . So the environment temperature should not be over 140°F.
Question:	What size inline fuse to run with this when I put a toggle on it, I want it to power on and off via a toggle switch
Answer:	Not sure about the 400a version, but the 100a version has two sensor wires. One short one about 6-8" long, and a longer one about 5-6 ft long. I've purchased wire and extended the sensor wire to 20 ft. and it still works well and accurately.

Question:	I am getting the entire display blinking when i put any load on the system. it blinks all zeros. i have it set for 100a, but am less than 100A
Answer:	If your display is flashing or the reading seems out... (also if the reading stays 0 you probably have the wires from the shunt the wrong way round)The problem is the length of wires from where the shunt is (if it is not right next to the battery) causes a voltage drop across the cable that influences the reading and in most causes will cause the meter to flash as I suspect this is the over-read indication. (I am using three meters to measure two banks of solar panels and a wind generator)Solution: tie the battery side of the shunt wire to both 0v points on the meter . i.e. bridge the two inner pins of the connector and take the wire only to the shunt, this then takes the voltage drop over the cable to the battery out of the equation.
Question:	does this meter count up the amp hrs used and then start subtracting them when charging begins. Giving you a running total
Answer:	I bought two meters, so one measures charge, the other discharge. (Just wire the sensor wires in reverse for the discharge)
Question:	Very happy, what's the proper way to read the "energy" section of the panel? Is it real time or an average of watts per hr
Answer:	It is neither of those. The Energy section measures how much power you have used over time, i.e., the cumulative total of watt-hours. A watt-hour is equal to one watt of power used over the course of one hour. If you have a 5-watt LED bulb and you power it for 3 hours, your Power reading would consistently read 5 W for the whole time you're powering the bulb ("real time," like a speedometer), and the Energy reading would gradually change from 0 to 15 Wh over that 3-hour period (cumulative total, like an odometer).
Question:	Can you use a toggle switch to reverse the small gauge wires so you can read either draw or charge while under load
Answer:	FYI in the solution I offered above, it requires you to install the shunt for the charge circuit on the negative cable between your charging devices (all of them) and the negative post on the battery. The shunt for the load circuit should be on the negative cable between you negative battery post and the negative cable for you load panel. The load panel should have all your loads, both DC and inverter. The drawing that baylite provides does not show any dc loads. The common connection point should be the battery terminals. I hope that is clear.

Question:	Do the 2 gauges have common or individual grounds? (could they be used individually across 2 batteries in series
Answer:	Yes. I currently have a single batter set up. The bottom just reads 00.0. When I add a second battery later it will read. I thought it would be annoying, but it is not.

Answer:	yes it will stay on . I would wire in a 12v two pole relay to your ignition switch. So when you turn your key on ,it will close relay, and power up your voltmonitor.

Answer:	I used a 1" handlebar clamp from ebay. There are several styles, I used the thin cast ones, they are either black or chrome. Not very big, but they have held the meter in place so far. I mounted small turn signals with them also. I did have to file the clamps out some to get a tight fit on the handlebars though.
