12 best vht base coats

VHT (Very High Temperature) base coats are a type of automotive paint product designed for use as a base or primer layer on high-heat surfaces, such as engine parts, exhaust components, or other areas of a vehicle subject to extreme temperatures. Here's what you should know about VHT base coats:

  1. High Heat Resistance: VHT base coats are formulated to withstand exceptionally high temperatures, often in excess of 500 degrees Fahrenheit (260 degrees Celsius). This makes them suitable for parts of the vehicle that get very hot, like the engine block, headers, or exhaust pipes.

  2. Primer Function: These base coats typically serve as a primer layer before applying the final color or topcoat. They help improve adhesion and durability of the topcoat while providing a barrier against heat, corrosion, and other environmental factors.

  3. Heat-Resistant Finish: VHT base coats often provide a heat-resistant finish in addition to their primer function. This means they can serve as both a protective layer and a base for further customization or topcoating.

  4. Variety of Colors: While VHT base coats are often associated with primer-like applications, they can come in various colors, allowing you to choose a base that matches your desired final paint color or finish.

  5. Spray-On Application: VHT base coats are typically applied using a spray-on method, which provides even coverage and helps ensure proper adhesion to the substrate. Proper surface preparation, including cleaning and sanding, is essential before applying the base coat.

  6. Use Cases: VHT base coats are commonly used in automotive applications, but they can also find use in other industries or DIY projects where extreme heat resistance is required, such as on grills, stoves, or industrial machinery.

  7. Topcoat Compatibility: It's essential to ensure that the VHT base coat you choose is compatible with the topcoat or final paint you intend to apply. This ensures a seamless finish and long-lasting protection.

  8. Safety Precautions: When working with VHT base coats or any automotive paint, it's crucial to follow safety guidelines, including proper ventilation, the use of protective equipment (e.g., respirator, gloves), and adherence to manufacturer instructions.

VHT base coats are a valuable tool for automotive enthusiasts and professionals who want to protect and customize their vehicles, especially in areas prone to extreme heat. Proper application and compatibility with other paint products are essential to achieve the desired results and ensure long-lasting durability.

Question: Do I have to wet-sand the base coat or wet sand after this is applied
Answer: It might be my application or technique, which doesn’t make it as good as Simplynailogical’s. But it’s definitely effective and removes the hassle of using nail polish remover for glitters and holos.
Question: how many square feet does a can cover
Answer: Yes!! I placed one thin layer under my normal gel manicure and I got 5 days of perfect wear, not one chip, or lifting! It might have lasted longer but I had to change my manicure. Note that I do not use my nails as tools, and I use gloves if I have to wash dishes or clean. I am so happy that I don't have to use acetone to remove my gel manicures anymore. I'm an avid nail artist and I change my manicures at least once a week and this is perfect for me. If you want longer wear then this may not be for you.

User questions & answers

Question: I need to be able to apply with a brush due to location of parts on engine. If I remove paint from can will it be too thin to use with a brush
Answer: No! will not stick to chrome..best bet is a Jet Hot Coating from a powder coater.. This stuff does not hold up well under high heat conditions, will flake off at the hot bends of pipes
Question: can this paint be used below the water line? I am paint the lower unit on my outboard engine
Answer: I think it is. I have used this primer ONLY on the exhaust of one of our cars. Curing is tricky. Have to follow istructions on the primer can.
Question: How many coats should you do per rim
Answer: Yes but any paint will do that as long as you clean the rust off . All your doing is keeping the water and air from getting to the raw metal . The high tempPaint has to be bake in an oven to 600*F
Question: Is this good to use over the vht rust convertor
Answer: I don't see why you couldn't use this for other applications but if your not going to be heating your crafts to over 1000* why would you need a high heat clear coat.

User questions & answers

Question: Will this work on gym equipment? Looking to paint my squat rack neon green. Thx
Answer: yes
Question: Has anyone had luck with the VHT clear coat enamel? Does it last and resist chemicals
Answer: Hey Josh, Pretty much like any other Clear Coat. It does work. Should re spray a couple of coats. It will last for awhile,depending how it's used!! Hope this helps! {wolfman}
Question: can i use this on my brake calipers
Answer: Yes. I've used it on my brake calipers and it works great. Depending on how much you drive you may have to touch it up to keep it bright every so often but that's going to happen regardless of what paint you use because brake dust, etc. I use this because its high temperature.
Question: Is it OK to use a gray primer and then use a hot pink paint over top of the gray
Answer: Primer of any kind will be good for a nice finish for whatever you are painting. I recommend 3 light coats of primer lightly sanded in between. When getting ready to apply you engine paint, beware, this is thick paint. It has heavy particulate matter which is the paint. I recommend that you turn the paint can upside down for 3 to 4 hours. This paint settles heavily. After several hours upside down, shake violently to get it mixed well. After that don't spray too close to your target surface. Do not spray at any temp less than 72 degrees fahrenheit, and spray evenly side to side about 5 to 6 inches, from surface.

User questions & answers

Question: How do I get a credit being my item exploded and leaked everywhere
Answer: It’s been awhile since I used it, but I don’t think it’ll be too thin. It’s pretty good paint.
Question: High heat
Answer: The biggest factor is what you are spraying onto. For best results, leave the factory paint on and give it a good scratching with iron wool or sand paper. If you are down to bare metal it will probably get scratched up by the friction of the water. I do not consider this a very tough paint, but applied properly its as good as any other.
Question: can I apply this paint over a epoxy primer
Answer: I got good results with 3 coats per rim - after 1 coat of black primer
Question: I have a toyota 4runner with just the stock 17" rims. how many cans would i need to cover all 4 wheels
Answer: That’s what I did and it seemed to be good.

User questions & answers

Question: Will this have problems repelling gas or oil
Answer: I’m not sure tbh I used it to clear over vht tint on my tail lights and for that it sucked lol turned out to have more of satin finish instead of the gloss I was looking for. I’d say if the cure time is followed should be fine
Question: I rattle canned my truck flat ran and want to put a more durable final clear coat on it. Do you think this would work
Answer: If you want a dull finish then this is your answer otherwise I would use the gloss clear coat.
Question: can you polish this coat into high gloss
Answer: I used this as a sealer for painted coasters. If you need/want a high gloss, try using Dupli-Color Acrylic Lacquer Clear coat in Protective Gloss Finish. Good luck.
Question: If i spray this over something i just painted will it keep the color but turn the finish matt

User questions & answers

Question: Is this the same color as the dupi-color I bought inthe can asneed to do some for touch up as painted golfcart the metallic green
Answer: You can definitely use it over the satin black paint. It will not come out glossy at All. I actually used this over satin black paint and you can barley tell. I'd say this is more of a protective coat then anything.
Question: Just curious, could you paint a 14 ft boat with this and how many cans do you think you would need? Thanks
Answer: Not sure but it orange peeled my vht spray on my tank
Question: Can i use this for bike frame
Answer: I'm not sure I didn't paint my shocks but dI'd paint many other parts and it didn't react well (orange peel) and I used vht paint as well. I've read that it will flake off due to the constant up and down and can tell you from experience that the vht evtreme paint on mufflers does not work
Question: Will it work on plastic engine parts like intake cover

Question: Can I use this on by cars front badge, emblem, for a smoked look
Answer: im not sure, the green may be close, but this dries with more of a "shiny metallic" finish, rather than a regular gloss or matte finish. hope this helps
Question: So if i put this on a pair of glasses i will be able to see through them
Answer: Lol no. You would need a lot of cans. Like dozens and dozens. Best bet is use an Eastwood HVLP spray gun and an automotive paint.
Question: Will this be ok to tint my headlights with as well
Answer: It is just a can of spray paint, not paint like what an auto body shop would use. How nicely do you want your bike to be painted ?
Question: i want a glossy look on my head/tail lights,. Is this a flat black or will it be gloss/shiney look
Answer: Yes ! But you need Dupli color Metal cast ground coat to make it look anodized/metallic

User questions & answers

Question: Does this have metal flakes like a candy paint? How many cans for a bicycle
Answer: All these naysayers! If you're talking about a chrome emblem and you want to "smoke" it to get a kind of black chrome effect I don't see why this wouldn't work. Just use some moderation so it doesn't turn out solid black.
Question: How many cans I need to paint the 4 caliper covers of my car
Answer: Try it on cheap sunglasses, it gives an amber tint to everything, I mow my 5+acres with some safety/welding glasses I halfassed sprayed with it.........actually cuts down those midday sun headaches.Spray real light coats not heavy or it'll splotch and run, paint it on the inside of the shades.
Question: Will this work well (+primer) on calipers and aluminum
Answer: Also, check your local laws. In many states it's illegal to apply any tint to headlights. If you have state inspections, it may not pass.
Question: Do I also need to get the gloss clear one if I'm using it to paint brake calipers or just this paint is enough
Answer: it will have a slight gloss, almost more like a satin look.... to properly apply to give the best "OEM" gloss appearance...wetsand the lights with 1000 grit.cleanapply 2,3, or 4 coats of nightshade, depending on the darkness you want.allow 24 hours to curewetsand with 2000 grit to get out imprefectionswashapply 3 to 4 coats of clearallow 24 hours to curewetsand with 3000 gritwashuse a plastic polish and polish until you get a glass like finish...if you follow this and do not rush it, allowing time to cure, you will have a oem glossy finished product...
