3 best communication intercoms

Communication intercoms, often referred to simply as intercoms, are electronic devices designed to facilitate two-way communication between individuals or groups over short to medium distances. They find applications in various contexts, including Bluetooth headsets, electronics, motorcycle powersports, and automotive use. Here's what you should know about communication intercoms:

  1. Wireless Communication: Many communication intercoms utilize wireless technology, such as Bluetooth, to establish connections between devices. This allows for cordless communication without the need for physical wires.

  2. Bluetooth Headsets: In the context of Bluetooth headsets, communication intercoms are often used for hands-free communication while driving, cycling, or in other situations where using a phone is impractical or unsafe. They can connect to smartphones, GPS devices, or other compatible devices.

  3. Motorcycle Powersports: Motorcycle riders often use communication intercoms to stay connected with fellow riders, passengers, or make phone calls while on the road. These intercom systems are designed to be helmet-mounted and provide clear audio even in noisy environments.

  4. Automotive Use: In the automotive industry, communication intercoms are used for various purposes, including communication between the driver and passengers in a vehicle. Some advanced car systems also incorporate intercom functionality for communication between different parts of the vehicle, such as the driver and rear-seat passengers.

  5. Full-Duplex Communication: Many intercom systems support full-duplex communication, meaning that both parties can talk and listen simultaneously, similar to a regular conversation. This feature is valuable in situations where real-time communication is essential.

  6. Group Communication: Some communication intercoms are designed to support communication among a group of users. These systems enable multiple participants to converse simultaneously, making them suitable for team-based activities or group outings.

  7. Range: The effective range of communication intercoms can vary widely depending on the model and technology used. Some are designed for short-range communication within a few meters, while others can reach several kilometers.

  8. Noise Reduction and Quality: Communication intercoms often feature noise reduction and echo cancellation technologies to ensure clear and high-quality audio, even in noisy environments.

  9. Voice Commands: Many modern intercom systems support voice commands, allowing users to control various functions hands-free, such as making calls, adjusting volume, or activating other features.

  10. Compatibility: When choosing a communication intercom, it's important to consider compatibility with the devices you intend to use, such as smartphones, helmets, or vehicle systems. Compatibility can affect the ease of setup and overall user experience.

In summary, communication intercoms play a crucial role in enabling wireless two-way communication in various settings, including Bluetooth headsets, motorcycle powersports, and automotive applications. They provide a convenient and safe means of communication while on the move, enhancing both convenience and safety for users in these diverse contexts.

User questions & answers

Question: is anybody using these with the polaris ride command system
Answer: This version has no head structure to it. The receiver is designed to clip to the side of a helmet and the speakers and mic boom are just on wires and rely on being attached inside the helmet. I'm sure however with a little creative re-purposing, you could take an existing telephone phone headset, remove the phone pieces and graft the various parts onto this. My daughter and I use this on the motorcycle and even with our visors up we get very little non-voice noise. It integrates very easy into our phones to allow making/receiving phone calls and playing music. A tap of the side button will put you back in Talk Mode and override music.
Question: Is this a mesh2.0 device and work with sena50s or do you need to buy sena b2m-01 to work with mesh
Answer: Nothing else needed. Set works great.
Question: Does this only come with the type that attaches to a hard hat? I would like to buy a pair of these with both types of headsets pictured. Brian
Answer: The Sena website states only one-to-one pair at a time. You'll need to go up to the SMH10 for 4-way intercom.
Question: Do you have to use the 'push to talk' button every time you talk to another user
Answer: These work in a mode that is called 'full duplex'. What this means is that both units can simultaneously transmit AND receive. So you can talk at the same time the other person is talking and you will hear them, just like a telephone. These are more like telephones than walkie talkies.
