If your Internet is down, or if there’s any other reason that the Sony PSN can’t legitimate downloaded content (e.g., specific licensing agreements and certain companies (e.g., EA) stops paying for the license, then one *might* not have access to that content, anymore), then that content might as well not be on your machine. Also, if you have more than two PS4s, for whatever reason — I do — then this product is no more useful than the original disc, as far as DLC goes... Although it might seem that the Sony PSN will be around, forever, thirty-five years ago, one would have said the same thing, about such a service by Atari or Commodore, and if my Atari 2600 or Atari 800 worked like PSN, then everyone would be out of all the DLC that had been bought, on the PSN. Even if a game service works like Nintendo’s Virtual Console *did,* if the drive (and any possible backups) crashes — and they all eventually do, if used (and often if not) — then even all DLC from a service like that still essentially has a timer on it, for the average consumer. To take it to a logical extreme, if one has more than two PS4s, then the DLC that “came with this disc” — which isn’t the case, because only *access* to *available* DLC does — then one gets no added value, with this disc, if one already owned the DLC and was buying this, to play on a third PS4. If “two machines per PSN account” is extended to PS5s that are playing PS4 content, then there’s an even bigger problem. If any of those things occur, you might as well only have the Day One Edition — minus the updated version of the game that I *assume* is on this disc. However, if the DLC is on the disc, itself, then you have the “Game of the Year Edition” of the disc, but, if the DLC remains digital-only, you essentially have the “Updated Version Edition.” Make sense? | Answer: | Like Destiny it is an online co-op shooter, so yes you need a persistent internet connection. If the demo is anything to go by it isn't really balanced for single play, though you can choose to play alone by using the play with friends option and then simply not inviting any friends. But you still need to logged in and online to play. The game is basically Destiny: Beyond the Thunderdome. That's kind of how the demo feels anyway, it's an online third person shooter with loot drops where each class has different powers and skills, but set in a sort of Mad Max meets Destiny alien post apocalyptic setting. Kind of a shame really, I was kind of hoping it would be humans versus their new home, instead it is humans versus humans. But I guess to make PVP work they probably needed both teams to be roughly the same in terms of base skills and stats. If you like Destiny but think it needs to be grittier, dirty, gorier, and darker you might like Outriders. There is a pretty solid demo to try which is pretty much the whole first region of the game, minus crafting with tighter limits on how much loot you can carry...but all your progress carries over to the full game if you buy it. |
