The Programs

It has to be something that is safe for kids to get on their hands etc. It looks and feels like drug store mineral oil but is more viscous. |

The switch (lever) works off of two wires, one for each direction, so possibly one of the wires of the switch is broken or not connecting for some reason. |

Answer: | I don't know about it. Ask the customer support. But they are very poor in responding, my one does not work yet. I tried to contact them lot of times but not final solution yet. |

Answer: | Building the car is ok if you can build LEGO TECHNIC Kits, otherwise the 12yr old will need some help. The Software is more difficult, 1, The software runs on a RaspberryPi single card computer. 2. To access the software via the Rpi you need a USB keyboard, USB mouse and a TV with HDMI input, WIFI, and a 5V power supply for the Rpi. also you need a laptop (windows seems best) to control the car once it's built and all software loaded on Rpi and Laptop 3. A UNIX like operating system (Raspbian, on a mini sd card) runs the Rpi so the 12 yr old needs to learn that... Fun but hard unless helpful friends who know Unix stuff. 4, All the software to run the Picar-V is written in PYTHON and can be downloaded from the web. (done by step 3 above), and onto a laptop (widows seems best). Actually if the 12yr old has a interest in programming this kit will expand the 12 yr olds interest and have a lot of fun. But if the 12 yr old looses interest quickly.... This Kit is not for them. I'm 82yr old and built the car in two evenings, The software I've been goofing around with for all summer (3 to 4 months) and I almost have it running (by Christmas I hope). A lot of help is on YouTube so check it out, I hope this helps answer your question. Dan G |

Answer: | The kit is complete except for the Raspberry Pi (B+, 2 or 3), MicroSD card and a pair of 18650 batteries. You will also need keyboard and monitor for the initial setup of the Raspberry Pi. |
